Ghost Rider 2 In The Works - Part 2

I'm not saying every movie has to have 150-200 mil budget but 50 is too low for a film that NEEDS lots of CG for a burning skeleton. The original 75 estimate was much more reasonable but at 50, they have to cover a lot of short comings with forced fast montage which is always a bad thing IMO.

Ghost Rider made more than 250 mil worldwide. This 50 mil budget is really worrying me. I thought it was around 75.

Actually, Ghost Rider's worldwide gross was 229 million.

Did you see the trailer for this film, because Ghost Rider's CGI looks FAR better in this film than it first one even with a much smaller budget.

CGI is alot cheaper now than it was in 2005-2006 (when the first one was filmed), so with the proper directors 50 million dollars can go a long way.

Wow, I always thought it made close to 300 mil.
Agreed on the CG in the trailer. LOVE the look though still think 50 mil is beyond low even now that CG costs are lower.

I think it's still very expensive, they just didn't go with an expensive company to make it. From what I remember, the first GR movie they used Sony Picture Imageworks, with an assist from CafeFX and Digital Dream. They charged them an arm and a leg for it. This time they are going with one bargain bin non American company in Iloura.

2ndly, the first movie wasted too much time trying to perfect the fire effects and it seemed to me they burned through their budget really quick. How can a movie with that much money have so little GR action to show for it? They had people in China make fake trees and flowers costing somewhere in the 6 figures, creating night scenes in CG, and they even ran out of money. MSJ said somewhere he had to fork out some of his own money to pay for the CG scene where GR attacked the police helicopter. Just think how bad ass GR2 would be if they had an extra 60 million to play with for action scenes?

Sony Imageworks are ****. The CGI seen in the trailer looks better than what they did in the last GR movie.

Thanks for the info Midnyte_Sun. I remember the MSJ comment on chopper scene but the rest was new to me.

Let's just hope their entire CGI budget is not just what's seen in the trailer. It's happened before.

I hate to be a pessimist because I think GR would be awesome if done right and I don't hate Cages interpretation of Johnny Blaze. However, after the last fiasco I don't have a lot of faith Hollywood can get this right. Even the story sounds suspect.

I'll try to keep an open mind but I just don't see this working out to a degree that fans are going to be happy.

Personally if I were going to write a GR adaptation, I would approach it as a "Man with No Name" stylized western. A stranger shows up in a town besieged by a deadly curse. Or Stranger shows up and (literal) demons from his past catch up with him. Add the carnival and keep it dark and moody. Play up the horror aspects of the story and you have yourself a film.

Hollywood’s biggest mistake is trying to make GR a hero. GR isn’t cute and funny. He is a scary badass mother****er and everyone should fear him including the innocents he attempts to protect.

Well said.
Also, good call one movies that reveal all their money shots and CG in trailer. It's like those horror movie red band trailers that show all the kills.

That's ashame because the fire effects in this films looks far better than the ones from the first GR, oh and I would've loved for them to have had an extra 60 million for the action scenes.

Well the directors of GR:SOV did say that they saved most of the more "spectacular" stuff in the film for the next trailer and the actual film itself.

Well, because it's a cheap movie....that's all im saying.

Well like someone said earlier, District 9 cost 30 million dollars and it didn't look cheap at all.

Besides, these guys also directed Gamer which had a budget of 50 million and it didn't look cheap as well.

Yea, but CGI doesn't cost that much these days if the directors know what they are doing. District 9 for instance, did that look like a 30 million dollar movie? Course not.

Difference is though, it was VERY cheap to shoot were they did, no big actors fees or even writers fees and Peter Jackson who was heavily involved owns Weta. Little different than what we have for GR 2.

Unless you got the mother****er fighting legion itself, you don't need that huge of a budget for this character.

D-9 was also directed by a man who knows visual effects in and out.

I've always thought of GR as Dirty Harry with his head on fire. So that's what I am hoping to see. Justice dispenced at his liking..

The effects look like they will be good. Budgets are "reference" numbers.. it might be under, might be slightly over. If the directors though they needed certain shots in the movie I am sure a little convincing would get them a little more cash...

Goddamit, I want the trailer now! They released the Underworld teaser very close to GR2 one (a couple of days from each other if I'm not mistaken). We got the new, full UW4 trailer last week. So, GR2 trailer please?

Exactly, Ghost Rider is powerful as hell but alot of his stories involve him being a street level hero so he doesn't really need a huge budget.

Yeah GR:SOV's teaser trailer was released two days after the teaser for Underworld 4, so I'm hoping the new trailer comes out sometime next week.

I'm thinking at the very latest, we'll get a full trailer in December; latest. That puts it the movie roughly two months away.

I think it's gonne be sometime this month, but I can see it being released in December at the latest.

Maybe it'll be attached to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? It's another Sony Pictures production.

This comes out in February right?
