Ghostbusters 3 - Part 1

Yeah, I'm on Bill Murray's side here. He doesn't want to do it, he shouldn't have to do it. Simple as that.

The original Ghostbusters is my favorite film of all time, that being said I really don't have any interest in a third film. I don't want a new team, I don't want to see the originals being old and sad. I especially don't want to see someone like Jonah Hill as a ghostbuster. I know it's just a rumor based on those twitter pics but knowing Hollywood it would be him or someone like him. And if it's a commercial success they'll want to do even more sequels with a new cast and will run the franchise into the ground.

I just think it's too late to try and make another. I dread the idea of updated proton packs that look like Apple computers, overly-detailed CGI ghosts, and lame modern comedians putting their humor into the movie. Something like Seth Rogen smoking a joint with a ghost... no thanks. And I like Seth Rogen.

As far as I'm concerned, the video game was the third movie and I was more than happy to have gotten that. Just let the idea go and don't risk ruining the Ghostbusters name with a mediocre film. Nuff said.

Oh, and that Garfield explanation from Bill Murray is hilarious. :funny:

just say Venkman moved to California where he's retired and spend his days golfing and lounging around

Southern California's BEAUTIFUL San Fernando Valley! That's what I've been saying since Aykroyd said Murray wasn't coming back

Flashback scenes?

that would be my guess, or time travel because I thought at one point wasn't that a rumor going around? Or I may have dreamed that up...but my guess is flashbacks. But if it is flashbacks why not de-age them like they did Prof. X and Magneto in X-Men 3?

Flashback scenes with lookalike actors? Okay, now I'm really starting to hope this movie doesn't happen. That better not be for real. No way they can find lookalikes for all four, that's four very distinct looking actors and personalities.

Maybe body doubles for the action shots or shots from behind but with close ups of the old actors faces de aged like they did with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in X-Men 3?

I don't mind Bill Murray not coming back. I think recasting him would have been a huge misstep. Although his character was one of the best things about Ghostbusters , I still think they can make a good film with a different team.

A remake would probably never happen well atleast for a long time. Due to harold/dan/ivan/murray owning/controlling the rights to the series. But personally still think we are besides the whole murray stuff. In a lot better place for another film now. Then ever in past. Studio didn't want it then, they want it now, there been far more development (today) then we ever got in past. I still want to see it happen.

without venkman it just doesn't work.

venkman was the mouth of the team he got the jobs he was the smart ass it just doesn't seem right

Eh, with the right writers on board, his absence wouldn't be jarring at all.

no it will. no matter if this is the greatest movie ever, everyone will always talk about the absence of murray it'll be the elephant in the room

hell there isn't even a film and it'll all we're talking about

I've already came up with a way to get a sequel to the originals and get a reboot at the same time

Bah, with no Murray, there should be no Ghostbusters 3. :(

No Bill then no Venkman. No Venkman no Ghostbusters. Would Bill do another Video Game though ? Since that is only voice work

Eh, just have Andy Serkis mocap a CG Venkman and have Dave Coulier provide the vocals. :o

I don't think it's that easy. It's not like replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2 or Megan Fox in Transformers 3. Bill Murray is too essential to the franchise.

Part of me wonders if Bill has his heart in the right place in this ? Does Dan & Harold want to do another one just to do another one because they have become irrelevant ? Maybe Bill reads the scripts & honestly thinks its bad because it is & Dan & Harold wants to make a third one for the wrong reasons ?

As has been pointed out...Venkman clearly didn't want to ghostbust forever in the second film. Make replacing him, and the guys realizing that they CAN'T ghostbust forever part of the story of the third film. Wrap that into the story about training their replacements. How cool would it be to see that they HAVE been ghostbusting all this time, or that they wanted to, and tried to go back to it? Make a film about all the people who grew up wanting to BE ghostbusters who now have a shot at it. There are so many possibilities. Just saying "It won't work without Venkman" seems really shortsighted.

I wouldn't compare it to them in any way honestly.

I'd say it wasn't jarring when Julianne Moore replaced Jodie Foster in Hannibal, or the continually changing Griswold kids from the Lampoon movies.

From what i've read, Murray seems to have damaged relationships with Ramis and Aykroyd

No, Murray's reluctance (and now, refusal) is due to two factors: One, he had a terrible time on Ghostbusters II and it really soured him on the franchise. Two, he and Ramis still have never really mended their fences since the complete and utter falling out that came about because of Groundhog Day. It's not a Cold War like it was until about 2004 or 2005, but the two are still not anywhere near being on the best of terms. Murray's a very sensitive guy, and he was very hurt by Aykroyd and Reitman on Ghostbusters II, and he felt incredibly hurt by Ramis on Groundhog Day. He very clearly doesn't have much interest in resurrecting a franchise he isn't terribly fond of in the first place, especially when there's no real creative reason to do so.

I didn't know about the Groundhog Day stuff, so that's interesting. I believe all of the players in GBII got screwed, not only Murray. Apparently when they arrived on the set of day 1 of shooting the studio had interfered with nearly everything and changed large portions of the film, aggravating all who had input in the original story.

As for the last point about resurrecting a project/without a creative reason, it doesn't explain Murray's involvement in the Video Game. I'm replaying it again right now and he's clearly channeled enough Venkman in the voice overs to make it believable. Perhaps he saw the game as a valuable project but not making the third film?

Ultimately I stand behind Dan A, he's the guy with the paranormal interest behind the franchise. All the great comedy Bill brought to the series is excellent but I don't think it's the crux of the Ghostbusters. That's Dan.

One interesting twist is last year, when Murray appeared at The Scream Awards show in full GB gear. At that point, I thought to myself, "I know he's having a laugh and all, but if in the near future he officially turns down his role as Venkman, isn't he doing sort of a 'screw you' to his fans?"

with all the murray crap i still would be fine if after all is said he comes in for a cameo, and then talked about through the film. Saying about things he did as a buster, to why he retired. Then my idea would be like i think i said have him at the end save the day for the new guys on the big baddie of the film. Get a good laugh out of that and save to the new guys hope you are ready for a life of this all the time.

fans want a new ghosbusters movie. but if the movie will not be how the fans imagined the movie(for 20 years) then its all the actors fault. the actors are also part of the writting team. its similar IMO like with Indiana Jones. you would thin kthat teh IJ fans learned something with the last movie. NO. they want a new movie that will fix the 4th movie. wooow.

Dan is of course using the fans against Murray. Dan can not stop talking about a new GB movie. it looks like fans are naive.
