Ghostbusters 3 - Part 1

Murray cameo in the beginning, Venkman being mentioned several times during the film and shows up in the final fight to save the world one last time because the others are outnumbered.... sounds good to me.

But Murray's lack of interest isn't the only thing that may sink this movie. I have read that the studio people don't want Ivan Reitman involved. How bad isn't that?
I know you guys don't like bringing up directors who haven't had a hit movie in decades, but a concept like Ghostbusters benefits from having an 80s guy. To replace Reitman, I suggest John Landis. He's worked with Dan before and that may help a lot. He knows the other guys too, they rose to fame about the same time. And if not Landis, Joe Dante can work. And Robert Zemeckis too.

I think cameo at end saving day would bbe a better deal for venkman. I think I heard that too about ivan, but there hasn't been anything in ages. So maye studio execs changed minds.

Keeping Reitman out may be damn near impossible, since he has rights.

I'd have to guess that the only reason they wouldn't want him directing is because they're hoping it spawns a "new" series of films, and obviously they'd want a younger director that can grow and change with that series.

I mean, Reitman's really the guy that put gave Ghostbusters scope. Dan Aykroyd wrote what amounted to an acid-trip script about SWAT teams skipping across dimensions to fight ghosts with magic wands and Reitman was the guy that vouched for it, told him to tone it down and got Harold Ramis involved in helping do that.

Yup. Reitman had a major hand in turning the Ghostbusters into what it is.

Frankly, I shudder at the thought of Dan Ackroids original concept.

Even if it did end up as new series I don't see harm of a new director for sequel. But keeping ivan and rest on as producers.

Frankly, I shudder at the thought of Dan Ackroids original concept.

They used to have the arcade game in our local fish and chips shop. Along with Space Invaders, Ackroids was the most popular first generation arcade game. I guess sometimes I got a little dizzy playing it, esp in the hot chippy, but it was not that bad a concept at all.

without venkman it just doesn't work.

venkman was the mouth of the team he got the jobs he was the smart ass it just doesn't seem right

That's what the new cast is for.
And it only makes sense there is a new team. the last game that came out was considered cannon and they were hiring new people then.

where in my post did i say there wouldn't be a new team. the fact that this would be a passing the torch does nothing to lessen the fact that without venkamn the story and the original team are missing a huge key factor.

you're going to tell me he wouldnt be the one behind the new team and the on forcing the franchise aspects of the business.

Maybe they can use Venkman's absence as a driving force for why a new team needs to be formed.

He wouldn't be. Not based off what we saw of the character from Ghostbusters 2. He was busy doing other things through most of the film and had to be grabbed back into the Ghostbusters business for the most part. He seemed fine with the Ghostbusters out of business.

It wouldn't really be that bad. As long as they write in logical reason for where venkman is. And he and events of the past get mentioned throughout the film. Then if that oscar rumor of him being peter's kid ends up happening. There is another link to venkman, and then if filming happens try as much as can to get him to do cameo. And be there to save the day and there you go.

Why can't they just state in the movie that the Ghosbusters have expanded; they are in several major cities now; we focus on a new group and it's mentioned that the original Ghostbusters are the founding fathers, but pretty much retired or instructors now...

We move from NYC to Chicago or something...

New franchise.

I love the original Ghostbusters 1&2 also, but if there's this much trouble getting the original cast back (and they are kinda old now)... why bother?

Well it would be easier to be in nyc still and we know dan/harold/winston actor are already will/willing to return. So we would probabbly see them train new busters and so forth. And probably strap on the ppacks at end of film to help new guys take out the big bad and all that.

Remake the whole franchise using Dan's original premise.

I wanted the original 4 on screen. To be honest, I don't want them to stain the franchise with some money-milker thing.

I'm fine with the video game being the third movie. If they want to continue the series in video game form I'm fine with that, too. In which case they can probably make a new game every year or two to officially continue the storyline.

Or maybe they can take the Watchmen route.

A member of the original team (Venkman) is murdered, Stantz starts to investigate and wants to put the team back together. Egon and Winston refuse to join and then Stantz recruits some new blood.

Actually, it's kinda dark for a GB movie...

Spikey: Could work, if we get to see Venkman's ghost appear one time during the film, and Egon and Winston comes to rescue at the end of the film.

For the new team, I fear we maybe will get Ben Stiller or Owen Wilson to be one of them. Not a good thing.

But at least I have noticed some people share my opinions that new comedians Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Will Farrell are not wanted in this.
Actually, the only new comedy talent that may suit here, is Michael Cera (IMO). He could play Oscar.

I hope that Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis will agree to do this. It won't be the same without them either.

iamlegend: Why won't the original premise work? Inception did, and Matrix too.

prolly just me but the bolding combined with that font makes your posts almost unreadable without a lot of squinting and slow, laborious deciphering.

Just a little bit. :yay:

Well I would say since dan/ivan/harold is invovled. They would pick some good folks. I wouldn't mind for example paul rudd, jason segal, that guy from national treasure movies who was nic cage partner. Then toss in a girl or two. And if the oscar plot happens then one of the decent 20 something actors.

I like cera, but I think he is a bit stale. So I rather see jesse einsberg(spelling) josh hutchson, the dude who played checkvo in jj star trek. For a few choices. Or they could always go for an unknown.

Now if they did do a female buster. What current 20/early 30s actresses would you guys like being picked.
