Ya that isn't the problem its always been said its a passing torch story. Sure the originals will be in the movie but some newbies will be there and probably main focus. But in the end probably have equel screentime. And really big woop on how old they are. Look a other movies that have older cast members in them. Or films in general about older people be what everr is plot of the film.

Most films with older casts are not marketed as blockbusters. Where the under 25 age group is most coveted.

The one exception is the expendables however the main leads are all in pretty good shape and i assume a ghostbusters film would cost more as well.
Aside from murray if some relatively well known younger stars are not attached to the picture i don't think the studio will want to go through with it.

Sony did just give us MIB3 - Will and Josh are 42-ish and Tommy is pushing 100...just sayin'....

And before they began re-filming with Tatum, G.I. Joe Retaliation marketed the Dwayne Johnson(42) and Bruce Willis(57) more than anyone else.
Not to mention, The Expendables 2 are all about the generations of yesteryear.

There will be a reboot starring Channing Tatum. In fact in the reboot. His character will be like a quadtriple twin set. Where nothing but the Channing Tatum brothers. Make up the team & company

Yeah but all those "older" guys are all still in pretty good shape. The Ghostbusters gang do look their age I think it was murray himself who said nobody wants to see a bunch of fat old guy running around.

Also look at the random casting of liam hemsworth in the new expendables you can tell the studio is reaching to try to get a younger demo still.

No offense to the cast, but they weren't at the top of their physical game in the first two movies either, and the audience watched them just fine.

Yeah, they are reaching to them, but they are not catering to them, don't see why Ghostbusters 3 would have to cater to them either.

I do think that is part of the charm of the original films. They were no paragons of physical perfection, they were ordinary people. And it was part of the fun, and made their exploits a little more heroic.

I don't understand what's so important about Ghostbusters 3 when so many people hated Ghostbusters 2 already. I love Ghostbusters but I just don't see the point in a modern, mediocre sequel.

gb won't be rebooted if it is probably won't be for a long time. Since harold/dan/ivan/etc.... have a peice in the rights to the property.

If this were an all out action film then yes, the original cast would be very much unsuited for the parts.

But Ghostbusters is a comedy series at it heart... and comedy is the one genre in Hollywood that heavier folk can still thrive in. You don't have to have a 6-pack, you just need to be funny.

totally and the point is they wouldnt likely be the full focus of the film if we indeed do passing of the torch and hiring some younger guys from the likes of the dudes from the hangover, paul rudd, etc..... types of guys. Then like i said at most we probably see the old guys bust twice in the film, see a quick bunch of scenes of them retired, and then probably harlod/dan/winston actor training a new crew. Then the bulk of the film would be them. With probably the end the originals saving the newbies butts.

Etan Cohen to Rewrite Ghostbusters 3

ComingSoon.net has learned that Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 screenwriter Etan Cohen has signed on to rewrite Ghostbusters 3 . The news arrives just a week after Dan Aykroyd reported that the project had added new writing talent.

Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky wrote the previous draft, which is expected to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, although Murray has been a notorious holdout, not wanting to participate until the script is perfect.

Aykroyd previously confirmed reports that the plot will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters and hinted at the states of his and Ramis' characters.

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he said, "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

******

I guess they are hoping Billy Murray will fall for the Cohen trick again.

Nice to hear we didn't have to wait long on who was the new writer on the film. I thought mib 3 was good. So let's hope the guy nails the script so it gets to filming stage.

It would be great if they brought on Joel Cohen on board to co-write.

God, for a second, I thought it was Ehren Kruger. Because that scared the **** out of me.

Joel's brother is Ethan Cohen, not Etan Cohen, but I could see why people are confused. Etan needs to change his name.

Ya folks are getting the brother writers/directors mixed up with this writer.

The way they've set up the setting here it seems a lot of the film will ride on the casting of the new younger ghostbusters.

I feel this film could turn into a parody of itself if they don't cast the right actors to play the new guys.

This is absolutely true.

However, it's also why now is the only time I think they could honestly make this movie work. A lot of the young comedic actors in Hollywood right now grew up watching Ghostbusters - it's a project that a lot of up and comers would look at as a Holy Grail, and they'd put the same level of passion into it that Aykroyd and Ramis did back then.

Also, I don't see Bill Murray doing this film with the new writer. I think the only way he says yes is if Wes Anderson takes over.

Do we really want this film without Bill Murray? I sure as hell don't.

Oh come on how do we know bill won't do it with this new writer. What's wrong with him. He had a good script for tropic thunder, and mib 3. Maybe bill will like what this guy does.

And its not like bill will have a huge supporting role likely. I still could see him just do a cameo ie one or two scenes for the film. Then leave the heavy hitting supporting role to the other three originals.

Plus with harold/dan/ivan probably in chargge of things I am sure who ever is new/younger busters they will want to find folks of simular caliber/skills as they were when they did originals, so for me if we see in 30s I like to see folks like ed helms, paull rudd, etc... types for male roles, and folks like emma stone, tina fey, chritian wiig(spelling?) As female roles, and if we see any typical hollywood/studio wanting role for example for oscar if he is in film or another 20something yr old character probably be one of the it now actors like talor lauther, ughhh channing tatum, etc.... type of actors. Though I hate to see lauther or tatum in gb.

Joel and Ethan Coen are the famous writer/director brothers.

Etan Cohen wrote MIB3.

Joel Cohen wrote Garfield.

Bill Murray only agreed to voice Garfield because he thought it was Joel Coen. And then he found out at the recording studio that it wasn't.
