well allegedly didnt he do Garfield because he thought the Cohen Bros were directing it

This is true

It sucks that Murray doesnt wanna be in it, but honestly I kinda only want any of the old Ghostbusters (including murray if he changes his mind) to have a little bit of screentime. Like not more than Old Spock in Star Trek.
I think they should really focus on bringing the new generation to the forefront.

On the new generation of Ghostbusters I hope they dont pick comedic actors who already are leads in comedy movies throughout the year like Jason Segal, Zack Galifanakis, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, Jay Baruchel, etc. I really hope they look into TV comedic actors.
That all being said here are my top choices for the new generation.

James Roday (Psych)

Michael Pena (Observe and Report, Tower Heist, 30 Minutes or Less)

Bill Hader (SNL, Superbad, Hot Rod, Tropic Thunder).

Dule Hill (Psych)

and for the female lead I think Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation)

and for a sequel they can bring in Oscar (the baby from the 2nd one) but I dont really want him in this one.

I've a suspicion that they will go to the likes of those guys first. Murray and Dan were already well known leading men when the original film hit and the latter wrote Winston with the intention of casting Eddie Murphy who was already on the verge of major superstardom plus of course you had Weaver who had done ALIEN by that point.

No offence regarding your above choices but with the news of Bill not doing the picture Dan or most likely the studio (Sony) will automatically want to attract bigger names because whilst GB returning to theatres is a big deal on it's own the lack of it's original star will be felt and they may want to compensate for his absence.

I also thought of another name I definately like to see as a potential choice and is free now. What about chuck former star zack levi.

Darko that is what I would do is just say he retired and moved away. So that his character is still around and we can still do stuff with his character. And then like I said at least leave it open for the chance if filming does happen to get him to agree for a small cameo. Like easiest thing could be maybe he shows up at end of film and saves the new busters, or congratulates them on there success and all.

But i still dont think it's needed. I mean as I said, Ghostbusters should be a relatively cheap film. It doesnt need the budget of a blockbuster, that paired with the fact that it a recognized brand, and that it'll probably be PG or PG13 I dont think getting big name stars would be necessary.

The Hangover didnt have any bankable stars and it ended up being really successful. Even the 3 main leads in Horrible Bosses weren't that famous/weren't box office draws. Both those films were original R rated properties. GBs is a family friendly, known property. As long as it's funny, I think it'll make money. I hope the studios look at stuff like that

LEvi would be cool.

I've mentioned that murray not taking part will hurt in casting sought after stars. Murray out of all the old gb's still has that cool factor and him turning it down sort of signlas that this project may not be worth it.

Yeah, I absolutely hate to say this, but no Murray is going to seriously damage this. It'll make it feel more like a cheap cash-in as opposed to a new chapter in the franchise.
I'd like to be proven wrong, though...

If only 1 Ghostbuster is going to be black, then Donald Glover HAS to be him!

Yeah. I Like him for this film.

I would want John Krasinski/Jason Segal(as lead), Johnny Galecki, Donny Glover, Matthew Gray Gubler(as Oscar) and Lizzy Caplan also Christina Ricci as the new Secretary.

He could be grown up Oscar. I would be able to get behind that

I wouldn't say just cause murray is out that the film will be bad., we have a new script being worked on. Which hasn't been handed in yet. And murray has always been the issue with getting one done in past. Plus who knows maybe like I said once new script is a ago and filming gets underway murray changes his mind and at least agrees to a small cameo ie something like I said above.

As for budget for the film. I would say the likely range would be 100-130mill range. So they have a good sfx budget. But still a reasonable budget to make back in dom/international box office.

Just three people I think would be awesome Ghostbusters:

Jay Baruchel:

Seth Rogen:

Bennedict Cumberbatch:

Although Rogen isn't thinking that far outside the box lol. I just think it needs to bring together guys that some may not necessarily jump to immediately. Baruchel's got the new Igon side down. Cumberbach is kind of the cool scientist and brings in international knowledge about ghosts. Rogen would almost be in the Bill Murray role.

Yes Bennedict Cumberbatch. I can really see that. They need to bring in a Buster from this side of the pond and he would be perfect.

^I just died a little inside. except with the suggestion of benedict cumberbatch.

I like seth but I rrather not have him myself. I go with levi the phych dudes, paul rudd and some others myself. Benedict could be fun and he is a rising star state side. So would be a good role for him to take.

I wouldn't make him the straight man, though. Have be just as weird as Egon, but insanely competent physically.

Yeah that's kind of how I imagined him. Kind of like he was in the Sherlock holms series we got in the uk. He was brilliant in that

But like the originals, they all should have some type of schooling in the paranormal so he's not singled out as simply "the smart one." Even Peter had a PhD in parapsychology, even if he didn't show it,

Well the first two had "blockbuster" budgets so I think this one should have something similar...if they start cheaping out on the effects then that's already another strike against it.

I suspect Sony will see this as another MIB scale film...

It'll be a PG-13 summer or winter tentpole if they get it off the ground, definitely.

What were the budget of the first 2?

Also if Oscar was gonna be in it, how old would he be?

Well, they have to have some interest or stake in it somehow. Not just make them all Winstons who just came on board for the paycheck.

Also another brit, although completely different that just came to mind, is Simon Pegg. Basically aiming at comedians and actors who could fit that have their own unique personality and screen presence. He could be interchanged with Baruchel and the guy in 'horrible bosses' who's under Jennifer Aniston. Just aiming for that personality and who falls into that mold. A kind of mix between rick morranis and dan akroyd. He was the more eccentric scientist than bookish scientist.

Basically like the Avengers - bringing THESE guys together??? That's the brilliance of the original team, their personalities were extremely different from one another. We had a straight science nerd, a wacky paranormal scientist, a comical witty every day man, a straight-laced strong man, a nerdish secretary, an eccentric neighbor, and a strong confident babe. Therefore, what this team needs is similar extreme personality types in their own ways.

About 23-24

And I agree I don't belive Winston had any

if simon pegg were cast in this my ticket would be bought instantaneously.

GB came out in '84 and cost $30 million.
RETURN OF THE JEDI came out the year before and cost $32.5 million.

So I guess that was a blockbuster budget for back then.

I see no point in having Oscar in it, but if you did then I guess he's in his early 20's - so I guess that's the right age for the new GBs.

I assume some SNL folks will end up in this one - Hader, Wigg, etc. Are we ready for a female GB?!
