I would rather them they just reboot it. It won't be the same without Bill. Reboot it or do nothing I say. Dan seems to be the only one involved thats excited about this. Move on Dan

Bill was the heart of the film. As i've said before the success of the new film will rest on the younger talent they can get attached to it.

With murray not taking part i can see a lot of the high profile sought after stars not wanting to get involved and the film ending up casting a bunch of 2nd/3rd tier stars.

I'd love a new ghostbusters, but until i see them actually filming i'm not gonna believe it, this has had way too many false starts.

I like Galifianakis so much that I don't care if he's a Ghostbuster.

I'm already laughing at his "whimpering/scared routine" he did in "Hangover 2"

I could see him babbling and walking away quickly as he sees a ghost for a first time.

So Murray is officially a no-go. :csad:
According to Dan Aykroyd Bill Murray is a No-Go for Ghostbusters 3
Written by: Matt Molgaard

Dan Aykroyd recently reserved some time with Metro and you can bet your britches, Ghostbusters 3 was a hot topic. Unfortunately for those clinging to the hope of Bill Murray returning for the third film in the franchise, this little news break isn't going to make your day. According to Aykroyd, Murray is definitely O-U-T.

"No, I can tell you he won't be involved," Dan stated when asked of Bill's attachment to the film.

Pressed for details Aykroyd admitted some disappointment in Murray's decision to steer clear of the film, but did express an overall positive outlook on the potential film itself.

"It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."

With the ugly news out of the way it does, at this point, seem as though Ghostbusters 3 will eventually morph from fantasy to reality... and it could even happen as soon as next year.

“We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year.”

Now I don't want to get any serious anticipation built up, but maybe, just maybe, we'll actually see the third film. And now we know: we can finally put to rest the hope that the legendary Bill Murray will have a part in the picture. Bill's clearly opted out. Now that's some bittersweet news.

EDIT: Dammit, just saw Shifty's post.

how can it be Ghostbusters without Murray?? :(

the only way it will work is if it features a new generation of Ghosbusters, with the (remaining) original Ghostbusters acting as mentors or whatever.....

damn it

i had little to no hope anymore but this is still a kick in the stones. hell i'd cry for a cameo simply at this point

but it doesnt bring up something if murray is a no show how much do they reference venkman, plus no peter, no dana and no oscar

I'm cool with it. I mean, Akroyd has always been the heart of the franchise anyways. This is his baby. If he says it's in good hands, it's in good hands. Good enough for me. Murray doesn't own the rights to his character - they can say he's on vacation, that he died, a variety of different explanations for what happened to him. The key character, to me, is Akroyd. Disappointment? Yes. But, it's just losing the appearance of an actor - the heart of the franchise is still there.

At least now they can move forward. I just hope it's not a disaster

Yeah I'm disappointed but it's not the end of the world like u said around is the heart of the ghostbusters and I have faith in him to do what he has to for himself and us fans to be happy. Plus plenty of ways to write Benjamin out of it for most of the film he wasn't bothered about being ghostbuster anyway just say he left

You know, Venkman and Murray are some of the best aspects of the GHOSTBUSTERS movies...but he's not all they have to offer. Venkman can be written out like anything else.

I thought Murray's character was trying to distance himself in GB2 anyway. I wouldn't expect any of them to still be ghostbusting after all these years . It would be easy to write Ray out of the story.

Im not ashamed to admit I'm a die-hard Ghostbuster apologist lol

I absolutely love anything GB, even the critically panned sequel. I just want more, no matter what form :D

One thing I've always contended is that Murray WAS the best aspect of the original films... but isn't that guy anymore. He got old, lost a lot of the energy that originally made him famous and is a completely different actor now than he was in the 80s.

His lines in the GB video game a couple years back didn't seem to fit the character at all, IMO - I heard Bill Murray and not Peter Venkman.

Conversely, the other three have scarcely changed their style since the 80s. They've gotten older and put on weight, yeah, but they're otherwise the same three actors. Murray isn't.

So sadly, this may be for the best.

Well it sucks murray is out. Maybe we can still get him to at least do a small cameo for some point in the film. Or as we all said before either just write it in he died yrs agos on a bust, or just plan retired and is enjoying his golden years in fl/cali.

As for reboot I am against that. No need for that to happen. And since dan/ivan/harold own the rights. I doubt they would want that to be the case. Where as passing torch story/continuation is a lot better story to go with. And if this film is a hit we can get a few more films where we can see less out of the other originals or even ivan.

Also cool photo of a updated ecto car. If we where to see a new car I def could see a pt crusier, chevy hhr and others like them being viable choice to go with. Them maybe a ambulance type car as a mobile base/tech car.

I think Murray honestly thought he was so powerful they would not move ahead without him, If i remember right he owns a share/stake in the ghostbusters so they cant make the movie without his say so (they all have to agree including reitman, Hudson is not part of this)

I'd love to see a new ghostbusters, really i would just like i want a new robocop, but i can't help but feel it just wont be the same without venkman. He was for me and for many people the best member. It's a shame he wont do it, yet he did Garfield 2?

A PT Cruiser? Why not a converted fire truck, tank, or a hummer?

Because a fire truck, tank, and Hummer are "serious" vehicles. The Ecto 1 was never supposed to be a "bad ass" vehicle. It was a hearse. While I doubt the actual movie would use a PT Cruiser, the guys who made that updated version have the right idea - the charm of the Ecto 1 is that it's made from a ridiculous car that you would never think of as a heroes' ride.

It's Peter Venkman. There's only one answer to that: auto-erotic asphyxiation.

well allegedly didnt he do Garfield because he thought the Cohen Bros were directing it

This is true

It sucks that Murray doesnt wanna be in it, but honestly I kinda only want any of the old Ghostbusters (including murray if he changes his mind) to have a little bit of screentime. Like not more than Old Spock in Star Trek.
I think they should really focus on bringing the new generation to the forefront.

On the new generation of Ghostbusters I hope they dont pick comedic actors who already are leads in comedy movies throughout the year like Jason Segal, Zack Galifanakis, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, Jay Baruchel, etc. I really hope they look into TV comedic actors.
That all being said here are my top choices for the new generation.

James Roday (Psych)

Michael Pena (Observe and Report, Tower Heist, 30 Minutes or Less)

Bill Hader (SNL, Superbad, Hot Rod, Tropic Thunder).

Dule Hill (Psych)

and for the female lead I think Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation)

and for a sequel they can bring in Oscar (the baby from the 2nd one) but I dont really want him in this one.

Let's start a chant: NO MURRAY, NO MOVIE!

I like the majority of this. I'm only unsure on Pena, and I do want to see Oscar.; he doesn't have to be a Ghostbuster, but I would like to see him.

And while I'm saddened at the lack of Murray, thinking back, while I enjoyed his involvement in the movie, he wasn't the character I liked most, so I'm kind of okay with it.

Venkman basically was made out to be the draw in the films, but the cartoon series managed to pretty much give them all equal footing. He was still the funny sarcastic one, but it didn't revolve around him.

I remember when the cartoon was popular, my little cousins were play-acting Real Ghostbusters, and everyone was fighting over who got to be Egon.
