Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

On the news posted on the main site....no, just no.

I do wonder if the script was already accounting for Ramis health, considering they referred to it as a cameo scene.

I've been wishing for years now that Ghostbusters 3 would stop being talked about. They've just lost a big part of the make up of what made those films. They should just let it go. It's never going to be what anyone wants it to be and we'll only end up hating it like Indy 4.

Frankly G3 kinda suffers the same fate of alot of these 80's properties that studio have tried to revive. They're products of their time and in a sense dated , but not so much that future generations cant enjoy the old classics. However, when they try to revive and reboot the franchises 30 odd years later , audiences are either in different or reject them, although to be fair, the studios don't really seem to be making an attempt to make good films, only to cash in on nostalgia. I guess, as a fan of GB , I wonder if there really is a story worth telling in a 3rd film. The first film was great and the cartoons are a good enough canon imo.

Well I loved Indy 4 but I do agree this film without the original 4 it isn't worth it. They're what made the first one so good.

In other news, the script for Battlefield Earth 2 is still being reworked, and should go into production in the near future ...

- Oh, I'm sorry, I thought we were playing "Things That Aren't Happening".

Battlefield Earth 2 probably stands a better chance at this point.

With Ramis gone, and the seemingly unending development cycle for this movie, I'm kinda disinterested now. I don't really want it anymore.

I think that cameo roles is all the original Ghostbusters were ever really going to have. The lion's share of the movie was always going to revolve around the new Ghostbuster recruits.

Which is a stupid idea to begin with.

Had they tried to make the movie 20 years ago, I'd agree with you. But making the film today? Or even just 5 years ago? All of the original cast are far too old to be doing that much physical comedy. They would have to give the lions share of the action to younger, healthier comedic actors.

The original Ghostbusters was a movie that was strangely fluid. It's world-bulidng and story felt really tight. While the plot and ghosts are over-the-top, yet the Ghostbusters felt like real people. They were not limited by their troupes. NYC felt like a real place.

My biggest fear with GB 3 that it won't share that same sensibilities unless Sony gets the RIGHT people. For God's sakes, get Lord/Miller.

Just. Let. It. GO!!!!!!! All my hope is dead! DEAD I tell you!

Ghostbusters 3 feels like fan service, and that's never good.

I say get Joss Whedon. The man has a talent for writing, directing, and producing stuff with the right blend of action, comedy, and horror. Don't believe me? Seven seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer! 'Nuff said. Also, he knows first hand what it feels like when you hand your project over to a third party and watch them destroy it (the 1992 box office disaster, Buffy The Vampire Slayer), so I doubt he would do the same to someone else's brainchild. Especially one as beloved as Ghostbusters.

The reason why I didn't mention Joss is because he's so caught up with Avengers 2 and 3. He won't be able to do anything until 2018-2019.

Edgar Wright is another great candidate.

I now hope this ends any people clamoring for a guostbusters 3. Now murray can use this event as an excuse to not saturate harolds memory.

However if hollywood is hell bent on another then stick with the passing of the torch to a new team but have akroyd as the one member of the team left. Have a scene with akroyd and the new team leader sitting around and have a character moment where in a flashback we learn what hPpened to the other guys but hide there faces and show them from across the room or something fighting a ghost. Maybe show the other 3 sucked into a vortex or something.

I didn't want this even when Harold was alive, now even moreso of a reason why I have absolutely no interest in another sequel, hell I love the second film a lot but it pales in comparison to the first film.

Maybe they crossed the streams and got vaporized while Ray was taking a bunch of filled traps back to the Ecto-1.

Yeah that sounds like a pretty bad idea, I just pray to the movie gods that they just let this one go, if anything Aykroyd needs a good talking to.

At this point, we've no clue if Aykroyd even wants to continue--the reports about it continuing said Sony was having the script adjusted to remove Ramis' cameo.

Honestly, since Ramis was only slated to cameo anyway (no doubt due to his poor health), to me this doesn't change much. I'd still be open to the film, it doesn't hurt anything. Do I want an Egon-less GB flick? Not really, but it seems like even if Harold hadn't died, that's what it would have been anyway.
