I think that cameo roles is all the original Ghostbusters were ever really going to have. The lion's share of the movie was always going to revolve around the new Ghostbuster recruits.
Which is a stupid idea to begin with.
The original Ghostbusters was a movie that was strangely fluid. It's world-bulidng and story felt really tight. While the plot and ghosts are over-the-top, yet the Ghostbusters felt like real people. They were not limited by their troupes. NYC felt like a real place.
My biggest fear with GB 3 that it won't share that same sensibilities unless Sony gets the RIGHT people. For God's sakes, get Lord/Miller.
I now hope this ends any people clamoring for a guostbusters 3. Now murray can use this event as an excuse to not saturate harolds memory.
However if hollywood is hell bent on another then stick with the passing of the torch to a new team but have akroyd as the one member of the team left. Have a scene with akroyd and the new team leader sitting around and have a character moment where in a flashback we learn what hPpened to the other guys but hide there faces and show them from across the room or something fighting a ghost. Maybe show the other 3 sucked into a vortex or something.
Maybe they crossed the streams and got vaporized while Ray was taking a bunch of filled traps back to the Ecto-1.
Yeah that sounds like a pretty bad idea, I just pray to the movie gods that they just let this one go, if anything Aykroyd needs a good talking to.Comedy or not, I'd walk out of the theater if they did that.
