Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

Man, this movie is like a ex girlfriend for Dan Aykroyd.

Just let it go man, the memories of the past will be better left then touched. Going back to an ex (espcially a widowed ex) after 20 years is always a bad thing.

Kinda like Blues Brothers 2000.

So I started thinking about this regarding the first two films. What if Gozer had succeeded? Would he have destroyed the entire would or eventually taken a place ruling it? Following that, what would have happened five years later when Vigo came about? Would we have gotten a group of survivors, willing to sacrifice one of humanities last children to resurrect Vigo, the lesser of two evils, to combat Gozer and his minions? Sounds like something that could make an awesome story, especially with some of the survivor leaders possibly being the surviving Ghostbusters.

Being that Vigo was merely the ghost of a once-living sorcerer, and Gozer was a God, I'd say Vigo even as powerful as he is wouldn't have a chance, Truthfully, I don't think Vigo would have even had a chance to rise. If Gozer had won, there would have been nobody left in all probability. The game even expands on the mythology, explaining that the slime Vigo used to draw strength from was caused by Ivo Shandor anyway, so Vigo only arose in the wake of Gozer-related actions.

I've gone from indifferent to it, to excited to not wanting to see it made back to indifferent again. I really don't care if they make it or not at this point. In all likelyhood it will never be made. It's been 25 years since Ghostbusters II and every time they say it's ready to go, suddenly it's not.

Now if they actually do start filming on it, then I'll probably change my opinion, depending on the direction it goes.

There hasn't been a sequel that has worked wen it took place decades later in real time. They all sucked because the people involved aren't the same young, creative down-on-their luck types anymore.

I think the Star Wars prequels are proof enough of that. You can argue Star Trek back and forth on a sucessful sequel/reboot/whatever, although the gap there is smaller, and even further marginalized by the TNG movies taking over for the TOS crew.

The Before Sunrise trilogy is pretty amazing in how it has accomplished this.

Yeah but they're not genre films. They're human stories shot with low budgets with capable directors and actors who never lost sight of the narrative through line.

I think maybe Easy Money, the sequel to The Hustler, might get a pass though.

The game's story worked well enough for a GB3 plot. I had read that it was, in fact, intended to be GB3.

Terry Crews would be great in a Ghostbusters movie. I never thought of that before.

Did you see his Muppet commercial? Could you imagine him interacting with ghosts like this? I think it could bring a little comedy in the movie.

Probably my favorite Super Bowl commercial this year.

LOL! i LOVE Terry Crews. he makes every movie & show he's in better.

i really liked Bill Murray's shout out to Harold Ramis last might at the Oscars

Terry was great in bridesmaids. He and Donald glover in the same movie would be amazing

The game will always be Ghostbusters 3 for me, no matter what.

I won't lie that was so awesome it almost made me tear up, and yet again I'll say I pray a GB3 never sees the light of day.

After years of wanting Ghostbusters 3....I think i've come to the point where I DON'T want one. I just don't think it can be done well. Ghostbusters is too connected to the 80's. It's not just the characters that make the film...it's the music of the time, the slower paced story. Those are things that just wouldn't cut it in today's film scene. The second they put modern music into the movie it would stop feeling connected to the Ghostbusters previous films. It's a product of it's time.

It's also how I feel about Back to the Future.

I think you can do it now, but they'll have to thread lightly. Get Lord/Miller, to give a fresh take on the franchise and paying homage to the originals.

The thing about Ghostbusters is that a movie like would NEVER get made today; something with Back to the Future. That's why the 80's was magical. Original, high concept movies that changed pop culture is rare these days.

I don't want Ghostbusters 3. I'm afraid to say that ship has sailed.

But can you imagine them being made now? There'd be so much going against them with studios trying to take out the whole incest thing in BTTF, or trying to make GB more kid freindly, or worse, darker and grittier.

i think GB was a lightening in a bottle.

The tone was just perfect. The characters were not overtly cartoony or buffoonish. Even Peter showed many times why he's a smart character despite his aloof attitude. New York felt feel; the ghosts felt cartoony in a quirky way. It's amazing.

You're right about BTTF too.

Why not have it set in same universe, but present day - so what or how would the world be post GB2

Let's look at 9/11, crazy, tragic event that people could not believe would happen - but it did. Now, right or wrong, it's nothing more than a whisper - an urban myth - conspiracy theory. People argue it was fake, yet life still goes on. People say it was how the media portrayed it, and life goes on. Time does this.

Paranormal events, they all saw what happened, some live with it, others don't.

The GB's themselves disbanded in the 90's after public interest died down - copy cats set up similar bases, paranormal events went wrong - but still happened. But, like 9-11, people move on.

Until now.. a group of scientists stumble across a portal - maybe from the C.E.R.N or HAARP facilities.

Weird goings on get reported and they have to investigate - they research the original GB and track them down - some have moved on, others are willing to help.

A great scene could be Ray opening Egon's old locker, full of notes.

They don the proton packs and get to work.

We have Ghost Busters Extreme

I think you can possibly get a Ghostbusters sequel to work if you remember that the first one was also a "small business startup" story. Make it a story about Venkman passing on the family business to Oscar, perhaps reluctantly on both ends, and you might have something while acknowledging that time has passed.

But, yeah, I'm not going to be upset if Ghostbusters 3 never happens.
