Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

Sony is not gonna sit on this franchise. People that weren't even off their mama's teat when part 2 came out quote these flicks like crazy and wear the merch.

Can you elaborate? I thought Jurassic World was a straight up sequel? Aren't they simply continuing the story from at least the 1st two?

As for this film with the death of raimi, I can't see a strong emphasis on the original ghostbusters or what happned to them?

The word reboot gets thrown around a lot, but I expect this film will be similar to Jurassic World: Set in the same universe, years down the line and with few ties to the original cast.

I believe this is a reboot in the sense of a fresh start within the same continuity, not a remake that starts totally from scratch. Reboot is attached to anything that kick-starts an old franchise though, which is where the confusion stems from.

like what I said the word reboot is tossed around endlessly.

Hmm the differences would be that the Jurassic Park world was sort of established as separate from the original characters in the film. Aside from Hammond they didn't actually build the park or own it or anything, so them not being there wouldn't necesarilly mean that the Jurrasic Park world no longer exists.

The ghostbusters however were Egon and venkman and Winston and stantz. That is the ghostbuster's world.

I can't see them having any loose ties or conitnuity to the original team, while ignoring referencing what happened to those guys and why the hell there are a bunch of new guys taking their place now?

I think it would have to be a clean break, no in-between sequel/reboot type thing. Or a straight sequel that does delve into what happened to them post GB2, which seems very unlikely now though.

Either way, I hope Miller/Lord can successfully turn New York into a character. The best thing Reitman did with the original was that he filmed NYC the way it was; real. The place felt real despite the over-the-top premise.

I'd like to see the original concept for the Ghostbusters incorporated into the new franchise.

Reboot is no. A new group, restarting the Ghostbusters team 30 years later in continuity with established canon, is YES.

What was the original concept?

Basically, it consisted of Ghostbusters who not only fought ghosts, but also actually travelled through time, space, and other dimensions, the whole time fighting big, menacing monsters.

Yeah, Dan's originally idea was WAY out there. Glad he had to scale it back.

The easiest way to do a soft reboot of Ghostbusters is to simply set it in a different city. Might as well be Boston, considering how many comedy writers come from there now.

Agreed, just start in a new city with a new crew. Just not anywhere in California; Boston. Chicago, or Philli would be fine

Well, you'd have to pick a city where ghastly, pale, sunken-eyed monsters randomly destroying property would actually be considered paranormal. :o

Chicago is pretty much the new New York nowadays for Hollywood anyway. There's like 10 shows on tv right now set here.

I had a go at trying to come up with a premise last year for how I would do a third movie. Essentially, the idea was that, by the end of the 90s, Ghostbusters Inc had headquarters in NYC, LA, and Chicago, to hit the hubs of paranormal activity in the country, with smaller field offices in DC, Miami, Dallas, and Seattle. By the end of the 2000's the combination of a decade of trapping and economic downturn forced all of them to close, except the NYC HQ, which is left downsized to a skeleton crew. Have Stantz still in charge, but the others have moved on. This would allow for new characters to already be a part of the team, maybe with some involvement still from Winston.

I played around with different character types to have on the team, to fill some of the narrative roles of the original members without necessarily retreading old beats. One that I landed on that I particularly liked was the idea of having a Ghostbuster who went through seminary, but left before coming a priest. I've always joked that Catholics are like God's SWAT team, so I felt like having someone from that world would bring an interesting dynamic to the character roster.

I don't want a bunch of typical comedy actors to play the new team. I think more dramatic ones could be much better.
The story itself could have several funny moments and lines though :)

I think you need to basically put dramatic actors in comedic situations for that to work. It's an interesting concept but you'd have to be willing to do that though. It would have maybe be actors who are known for doing drama and leading man stuff but also have done comedy. Guys like Chris Pine and Hugh Jackman have both done goofy and action. Those are just template examples.

You explain this better than I do :)
Point is, I don't want Seth Rogen, Jason Biggs, Jonah Hill, Jack Black as the new team!

Jason Biggs? Dating yourself there.

I think Seth COULD work because I think he's only growing as an actor.

I would love for Bill Hader to do the film. And I wouldn't mind Zack Galifianakis, because he has amazing range, and I don't think he gets enough credit for his actual acting. I think Zack, if he played more like his character from 'Bored to Death' he would be entertaining but still grounded.

I think that you should have four characters:

2 young professors, and 2 grad students. The two professors could be played by guys like Bill Hader, etc. The students could be Aubrey Plaza..maybe Emma Stone.. and Donald Glover. Aziz Asari wouldn't be bad either.

This movie is never going to happen. Dan Aykroyd is the only cheerleader left for making this movie and even then it was almost never going to happen before Ramis' death. With Reitman out, it's definitely gone.

Hmm, Jim Carrey, Johny Depp, Eddie Murphy and Robert Downey Junior? Sounds like it could be an interesting mess.
