Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

I played around with different character types to have on the team, to fill some of the narrative roles of the original members without necessarily retreading old beats. One that I landed on that I particularly liked was the idea of having a Ghostbuster who went through seminary, but left before coming a priest. I've always joked that Catholics are like God's SWAT team, so I felt like having someone from that world would bring an interesting dynamic to the character roster.

That's interesting. I can see that guy being the one "dark, serious" member of the team, kind of like Winston Zeddmore meets Rupert Giles meets Eric Draven. If they want a comedic actor to play that role, I can see Jason Schwartzman or Bill Hader do that role. If they want an out-of-place serious actor, I can see Kit Harrington or Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Heck, it would be both poignant and hilarious if either Robert Pattinson or Daniel Radcliffe were to play that role as a send-up of their previous mystical roles.

Reboot is no. A new group, restarting the Ghostbusters team 30 years later in continuity with established canon, is YES.

What they should really do is just have a young trio of up and coming scientists discover some new ghostly threat (not unlike the original three) and investigate it.They realize similar stuff went down several years ago and look up Dr Stanz. He helps them get their act together.Eventually the fourth member gets added (to fill the "pretty girl" member most are expecting).Throw in a supporting role for Winston,Janine and Slimer and the film practically writes itself.

What's gonna happen is that it'll probably take the effective route that 2011's Muppets took: Have the new characters fanboying out for the original guys.

The problem is how to deal with the absence of Egon and possibly Peter. Make no mistake: I can see Lord/Miller trying to get Murray to do a cameo. And maybe after Raimis' passing, Murray may reconsider.

I doubt Murray will be involved. To be honest, the thing to do (and I bet this is what they'll do) is to have fun with an ambiguous explanation. Egon moved on to study Stonehenge and is living in a cave somewhere,Peter joined a monastery, etc. Just some throw away line to get a laugh, without making people think too much about it.

Murray isn't going to do any film that is not directed by Wes Anderson or Jim Jarmusch, although he made an exception for George Clooney.

^ Still think a Wes Anderson GB3 would be awesome. The Grand Budapest Hotel was great, very funny.

This movie is never going to happen. Dan Aykroyd is the only cheerleader left for making this movie and even then it was almost never going to happen before Ramis' death. With Reitman out, it's definitely gone.

Funnily enough, I've become more convinced it will happen now that Reitman is out. I expect Sony will be more enthused about making this film with as much fresh blood as possible. With the original creators out of the way, Sony has much more freedom to fiddle with the film (for better or worse)

Wes Anderson doing GB3 is the only way I think Murray would do this movie.

I'm not sure how they'd explain the tech though as Egon was the guy who made everything they ever used. Even with blueprints and manuals he would have made he's still light years ahead of anybody else. I don't think I'd trust anyone on the planet to make the new stuff. :p

He's essentially the Harrison Ford of Ghostusters, isn't he?

Personally, I think doing the "new GB team in another city" route is probably wisest...and to be brutally honest, I'd prefer to avoid involving any of the surviving original cast/characters as much as possible, with maybe a few minor exceptions as cameos: maybe a phone conversation with Janine about starting up a new GB franchise, or a montage like in the first two movies with interviewers asking certain figures about what they think of this new GB team starting up - and one of those figures is Walter Peck. :woot:

Also, I wouldn't employ the theme song until the end credits, although I'd probably stick with the Ray Parker Jr. version of it; they already tried doing a rap version of it in GBII because it was the 'hip' and 'trendy' thing to do, and it hasn't been heard on the airwaves since, whereas I'd be willing to bet that most pop radio stations that have '80s blocks have had Parker's "Ghostbusters" pop up occasionally. On a similar note, I think Chicago would be the best locale, primarily because that's where Ramis was from. That and dedicating the movie to him I think would be a fitting tribute.

There's one other nod I'd throw in, too: I'd make the new GB vehicle an SUV or an ATV or some Humvee-looking thing, both as a nod to the RV in "Stripes" and a parody/spoof of the Tumbler (frankly, I'd love to see a high-speed chase sequence with a proton-cannon mount atop the vehicle firing away at an escaping ghost and causing almost as much destruction as the chase itself does). For that matter, some new hardware with a slightly more militaristic touch: proton-pack miniguns, grenade-traps (you'd toss it rather than slide it, the shell bursts on impact with the ground and an energy-field blasts out of it to contain the ghost and pull it in, shell closes back up), possession-proof vests, etc.

Lord/Miller turned it down. Well them possibly making this gave me hope, back to not caring again.

thank god that they turned it down. i bet the studio would give them all freedom before and durring filming. then in post production and editing they would start making their own cut and forcing them to change things. we know how hollywood is.

i support a ful lreboot new story and new cast.than we can talk. Ivan Reitman should direct a nostalgic ghostbuster movie for the fans.

Ugh, now my interest's gone. Lord/Miller were the only thing giving fans any hope for this project. Also, to the above - the directors have a very good working relationship with Sony after both the Jump Street movies and are now quite respected by pretty much everyone in Hollywood. I doubt they would risk ****ing up the movie and cutting ties with the hottest directing duo in town like that.

Although, they did originally turn down The Lego Movie...

I have and I agree with it. That does put into perspective the entire history of Ghostbusters 3 as well.

Those are reasons it shouldn't happen. I think it will. Sometime after Goonies 2 hits theaters

If Lord/Miller turns anything down, which sound unfathomable, then the movie right now is a mess that they themselves can't even fix.

But what if The Goonies 2 ends ups being a failure?

no director has a chance with Ghostbusters 3.the fans will attack and destroy everyone who will make the movie. they dont even know it yet.

''to much like the first movie''
''to different''
''ghosts look to weird and ugly''
''i dont like the new cast''
''the jokes sound to modern''

If Edgar Wright or the people from Lego/ cloudy were behind this, then it would definitelly be great.

But the Lego/Cloudy people just say nay. Though the original article did say that they're leaving their options open.

I'm thinking it's a creative thing; that the studio wants to stick with the current script whereas Lord/Miller wants to take a shot at the current draft.

I'm not saying if they're in, i'm giving an hipothetical case

Yeah, I know. I'm thinking that Sony isn't really budging. If they lost Lord/Miller, who are known to be the 'fixers' of the industry, something is clearly up.

Or maybe, with their star now on the rise, they don't want to devote the time to directing the third film in a franchise that is 30 years old.
