i just pray it doesnt turn into the female version of a dick and fart comedy. sadly seeing the past credits of the chosen thats gonna happen

Bridesmaids and The Heat weren't "dick and fart comedy" by any means. They're probably two of the best female led comedies (along with Pitch Perfect) of the past couple of years I'd say.

Agreed.

Harold Ramis must be rolling in his grave

Bridesmaids and The Heat were not funny at all

Well, no one else was gonna do anything with the franchise. It was just gonna die a slow death.

Just based on "Freaks & Geeks" and "Parks & Recreation" alone, the humor aspect is in the right hands.

I have no issue with a female cast (No Melissa McCarthy, though. She tries too hard).

What I don't like is that it is a reboot, apparently. Feig said so in Entertainment Weekly. It's not set in the universe that already exists.

Even if Ray, Winston and Peter didn't appear, I wanted it to be in the same storyline. I wanted it to be part of the canon set forth by the two films and (hopefully also) the excellent video game and phenominal IDW comic series. But now, a restarted universe means I'll wait for home video. Excitement = deflated.

And man, was I excited to get another Ghostbusters. Granted, much of that was for the chance to see (at least) Ray and Winston again doing some busting, but had it been in the same universe, I would have still had enthusiam going in.

They definitely need some ladies on the team but I'd prefer a female and male cast of new Ghostbusters. Don't see why it should be all one sex or the other. If they are anywhere near as successful this thing should hit hard with a new generation of kids in merch and costumes. They need to have a diverse group of characters for girls and boys to choose from imo.

Whatever they do, I'll be there. I just hope it's worth the wait.

give me jennifer lawrence and emma stone as two of the gb and I'm on board. if not, I'll catch it on hbo in a few years.

what if, instead of a reboot, given aykroyd's want of an expanded universe, these female ghostbusters are from elsewhere? like ghostbusters L.A or some ****? that'd be easier to swallow than just an outright reboot set in nyc, and they would **** with the canon. call it ghostbusters La. or whatever, while aykroyd tries to convince bill murray to make gb3.

I feel a bit let down by this news.

It feels too forced - let's remake it with... WOMEN!!!

As i have said before - i wanted this to be a loose sequel - the HQ's are now luxury apartments - the ghostbusters are nothing more than an urban legend, a myth - the media down play their exploits. Sure - there are people that still fight for truth, for what happened those days in the 80's - they did see crazy things in NYC, but for the best part, they are long forgotten.

The government disbanded them - could a team of men reality walk around a city with Nuclear fusion packs? Exposing multi dimensions and demons - not on their turf.

Some members were paid off, to keep quiet, others were taken on by the government and given jobs for life - ghost busting still occurs, just on a different 'black ops' scale.

Present day and the niece of Ray (Emma Stone) is living in her uncle's apartment (as part of the sell off, Ray kept a floor). She is only their short term, to cover her University days.

She is plagued by visions, shadows at night - the apartment in her opinion is haunted. She goes online and discover a whole can of whoop @ss - she unveils the ghostbuster myth and that her building was home to the HQ's.

She calls her uncle - he comes back from work and explains - Ray also calls out to slimmer and he appears.

This makes her take notice and want to know more - she enlists a group of like minded individuals to reopen cases and investigate.

Meanwhile, the black ops files that Ray is working on unleashes a curse and it's down to Ray and the extreme ghostbusters to fix it before it is too late. Ofcourse, with a little help along the way!

Pretty much all of this. I HATE the reboot idea. Ghostbusters is my favorite film of all, and I never thought I'd ever consider skipping a film with that title. But, I just can't see myself enjoy this as is.

Feig talks about the flick here. Don't think this has been posted. Lengthy interview but here is half of it.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did this all come about?

PAUL FEIG: I had been contacted by Sony and Ivan a number of months ago when I was in Budapest shooting my new movie Spy. But I was like, I don’t know if I want to take that on because the first two are such classics and just because of how do you do it? Who do you bring in now that Harold’s gone? I know that Bill didn’t want to do it and I love Dan, but it was just like I don’t know how to do it. Then I had lunch with [Sony Pictures co-chairman] Amy Pascal when I got back to town. She was just saying, gosh, nobody wants to do this. I said, yeah, it’s really hard to take that on, especially since it’s 25 years later. how do you come back into a world that’s had these ghosts and all this? It just felt too difficult. How do you do it and not screw it up? But then it was bugging me for the next few days because Ghostbusters is such a great thing and everybody knows it, and it’s such a great world. It’s a shame to just let this thing sit there. I want to see another one. My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun. And then I thought, well, what if we just make it new? It’s not coming into the world that existed before. It’s always hard if the world has gone through this big ghost attack, how do you do it again? I wanted to come into our world where there’s talk of ghosts but they’re not really credible, and so what would happen in our world if this happened today?

So in the universe that you conceived, it’s like the world of the first two movies didn’t exist?

Yeah. I love origin stories. That’s my favorite thing. I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it so it’s like, oh my God what’s going on?

Do you suspect that you might make room for any returning cast member cameos?

Well, I mean, look, those are my comedy heroes. So as far as I’m concerned, anybody wants to come back I welcome with open arms. It would just be in different roles now, but it would be fun to figure out how to do that.

Are you freed from having to have one person who’s the Venkman and so forth, or do you feel like might adhere to some of those familiar dynamics?

We want to have fun with giving nods to what came before, but we don’t want to be bound by it because Katie and I already have talked at length and we have really fun ideas for things. But we want to tell the stories that we would like to tell, which means we want to tell the character arcs that we want to tell, which means we want to start with some of our characters in a different place or with different personalities and things they have to overcome and learn through the experience of this first movie. My number one thing is always about character and what is somebody learning from or transforming through whatever happens to them in the movie. So I think there will be definitely room to play with that. We want to do clever nods to it, but not cloying nods to it. We want to have the ability to really bring it into modern day.

Rest in the link.

I think it should be a couple of childhood friends start this Ghostbusters instead of a ragtag team.

I'd probably cast Amy Adams and Kristen Wig. Adams should be the scientist.

Lucy Punch would be the third GB.

Emma Stone and Kahyun Kim as the last two college recruits

Look, I'm not trying to be overdramatic with this. I get I've gone up and down on Jurassic World, I'm pretty passionate about it, but optimistic. And I get I've overblown the rumors regarding Star Wars, and that's partially because if any are true, it's a major change I'm not that happy with yet. But Ghostbusters, my favorite film overall, when a director comes officially attached to the project, toting a script that completely changes the dynamic of everything, and flat out decides it will be a reboot and ignore established continuity, then I can't stand behind it. It's like those rumors of JW ignoring TLW and JP3, I don't want that.
For all intents, this might as well be a remake, or a 21 Jump Street-style parody, because I sincerely doubt they keep much the same. I'm not the misogynistic type, I've always wanted female Ghostbusters in a future film, but an entire female cast feels like they'll be catering to a different demographic, and without the previous continuity, I feel the suits, the packs, everything will be different, likely, dare I say, fashionable, maybe the equipment will be styled after Apple products, sleek and refined. That just doesn't feel right.
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions again. I mean the script isn't even finished and we've had several finished scripts that never made it to screen before in relation to Ghostbusters 3. But changing everything does not bode well for me.

I don't know man. Feels like lamenting something that was never going to happen. Recapturing that first GB is impossible. Plus, the world/tech has changed so much that it would be too different.

I'm not even sure it's a good idea to keep them locked in one city. Show the GB traveling around the world and stuff fighting different ghost.

I see your point, it isn't los ton me that there lies potential, and somewhere circa 2009, when the video game out was really the last chance I ever saw for a new movie to happen. And it likely wouldn't have reached the original film, but for me, even a passing the torch film would have been nice because we could establish new characters, while seeing what became of the old guys. Unlike something like the Expendables, which is old action actors playing new characters, I wanted to see these familiar guys on one last adventure. And then further movies, even if they didn't appear could reference what's up with them.

I do agree on the idea that they shouldn't be locked down. That's one thing I loved about the cartoon, they went places and defended New York. I just can't stand this reboot idea. I'm not a Paul Feige fan, I haven't enjoyed his movies at all. And I admit, as a fan for the 25 years I've been alive, I don't like the idea of such huge changes.

I'm kind of over seeing the fatter, out-of-shape version of my favorite stars trying to recapture the old franchises now. Terminator, Rambo, etc.

Tying it to the old franchise just feels like a way of limiting future growth. Like Feig said, the world would have already experienced 25 years of Ghostbustering we've never seen. It would kind of be old hat.

Starting fresh means we get to understand the mechanics of how this world operates from the bottom up.

Look at the upside.

At least if the reboot sucks it doesn't "taint" the continuity of the originals.

Anyway if this still finds a way to happen I hope they stick to my under-40 plan.

Also a large female cast is fine but I would think if the budget is fairly sizable they're going to need to lure men in to see this and not have them head for the hills in revulsion.

I think it's pronounced as "Feeg" and not like the last name of the head of Marvel Studios.

I'm very fine even happy with a all-female cast, bring it I say. But another reboot? I have been disappointed by too many reboots to be optimistic about this. Ghostbusters could have a rich universe that doesn't need a reboot, plenty of games, comics, and even animated series have done it just fine.

Please let them find a way to turn into a sequel instead of a reboot!
