Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

I'm not really outraged at this film's existence. But,by the same token, I really have no interest.

I mean, the ship has pretty much sailed after Harold's passing, but I could begrudgingly get behind a "torch passing" movie with Dan & Ernie involved.

This film, being it's 'own thing' doesn't really effect the past films. So, worst case scenario and it bombs hard,it's that much easier to dismiss it from canon. But,I can't honestly say I'm interested in seeing it.

Doesn't making this an all female Ghostbusters roster alienate male audience members? I know that there's a double standard. If the new cast would have been all male, it would just be considered a GA film. However if the cast was all black, it would have been seen as a black film. Seeing as how they are all woman, i see this film being marketed towards women, which is fine but may affect the studio's bottom-line. It's a ballsy move and i do like the cast, but i think if the cast was two men and two women, it might be seen more of a general audience movie i.e The Hunger Games because of the mixed cast despite having a female lead, as oppsed to a girl movie.
We live in a time where the general audience might be more open to it. The majority of fans are mostly male so this does alienate them and also the original cast is being brushed aside so that is another strike. I think the film will be a big hit. There's still a lot of people that will go see it regardless. It's a ballsy move , but they know what they're doing

It does, hence that backlash. I grew up on Ghostbusters and had some of the toys, but the live-action movies weren't really my thing. The animated show was better IMO.

In that respect, I don't mind the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. The original films aren't going away and in terms of his recent output so far... Feig has been 2 for 2 (Spy looks like a surefire hit). I don't know, I think this could be a film that surprises.

I said the same thing, about it possibly alienating a large section of the male crowd.

With respect, Fieg - his movie Bridesmaids didn't interest me at all - it looked like a movie aimed at women, which i am totally fine with.

The Heat, i went along as my girlfriend wanted to see it and the character played by M McCarthy just got on my **** straight away, it felt way too forced and hammy.

Spy, looked ok until M McCarthy started doing her Chris Farley impression and i lost interest.

Having said that, i love the TV shows he has worked on - the office, parks and recreations, freaks and geeks. But does this count for anything?

As i have said before, this film would have a far more positive out look as let's be fair it has created some negative feedback if it had an original title and no 'ghostbusters' branding.

The idea or concept from what we have been told sounds like a decent, original idea. Where it goes wrong is calling itself ghostbusters - this is not ghostbusters.

I really don't think it will alienate an adult male crowd at all given it's good. Bridesmaids racked in almost 300m ww. While I'm sure it had more of a female audience plenty of the male audience saw it, thought it was hilarious and love Wiig. The Ghostbusters name alone will rack in the dough with young and old. If MLP can grab an older male fan base so can a female GB's no problem.

Merchandising with the younger audience is a different story, it definitely will have an impact and they will have to do something different. Not having a team feature both female and male characters in a franchise like this for the kids is just a flat out dumb move nowadays. Ghostbusters was huge with merch for younger males, and Sony will want to repeat that success. Something will be done to make sure they hit both demos there, be it animated or releasing the old GB figures and merch at the same time.

Yes they are. There will be a global-wide recall of every Ghostbuster VHS, DVD and Blu-ray ever sold. Every single person who owns the original Ghostbusters movie must hand them over to studio authorities. And if you have Ghostbuster toys and posters those too will all be collected and recycled in order to produce Ghostbusters 2016 merchandise :cwink:

They can have my Ghostbusters merch when they pry it from my cold, slime-covered hands.

That's easy... Don't watch it. Problem solved for you and others.

80% of the general audience, you mean. I know girls who flat out said this entire idea was stupid and no way were they gonna watch it.

Got it... Girls you know equal 80% of the target audience.

Another thing is are women really into Ghost based movies? I know some are, i.e fan girls but the GA women..? Movies like Charlies Angels was an action movie marketed towards women that did well initially but then fizzled. They say that this Ghostbusters reboot is going to be darker than the originals. I'm curious to see how receptive GA women are to this idea...

If it stars all women and they're kicking ass and being comedic, ladies will flock. They're actually counting on that. I suspect they will nab that little girl demographic also.

I guarantee this will have "from the people that brought you Bridesmaids" slapped all over it.

Not watching this just because it prominently features women is ridiculous. All of these actresses have a ton of talent and will make for an excellent and hilarious movie. I dont care if there isnt a single dude in the movie. I'm gonna watch it. People shouldn't get caught up over the fact that they are playing around with the cast.

This isn't the original films, they can do whatever they want to. Even an all animal cast chasing the spirits of all the dead house pets come back to haunt negligent owners. That sounds pretty cool.... I'm a get to writing now.

Here are my thoughts on Cecily Strong possibly joining the cast:

If they maintain romantic subplots, I'm definitely with you on that one.

:awesome:

It's important to note that this had nothing to do with the movies and everything with the cartoon. A quick remedy for this would be to launch a new cartoon shortly after of a new franchise or team and feature girls and boys. When I was a kid, I always thought the movie came after because of the success of the cartoon.

I like this group of women, and I generally enjoy Feig's movies, so there's a really good chance I'll enjoy this and will probably even go see it opening weekend.

I just doubt it will feel like Ghostbusters to me.

Can't speak for everyone, but I was obsessed with both and watched the cartoon cause it featured the same characters and had Stay Puft, Slimer etc. Same world, and the film impacted the whole start of that. So I disagree with you here quite a bit. If it wasn't the same world I probably would not have cared, and if it wasn't for the films success the cartoon would not have existed. That's what got the interest.

But I do agree the problem of appealing to a larger younger demo can be fixed with a cartoon featuring more characters when it comes to kids merch. Think I mentioned that in the my other comment as well. There's a crap load of potential money here that I'm sure multiple companies including Sony want to bank on.

While I can't say I'm terribly excited about this (at this point at least), it doesn't bother me, at what they're attempting.

The only thing that would have truly upset me is if they remade the first film and had new actors playing the original characters. That really would have pissed me off but thankfully that's not what they're doing.

I'm even okay with them using the Ghostbusters name because it didn't originate with the 1984 film.

The name as franchise property did though.

There's a reason they called the cartoon "The Real Ghostbusters".

You do know what that reason is though right? They weren't legally allowed to call the cartoon Ghostbusters because they never owned the rights to the name. Filmation did.

...and why did they call it "The Real"? Cause past 1984 everyone knew Ghostbusters as 4 dudes called Venkman, Stanz, Spengller and Zeddmore. And still do.

This new film is trying to be the same property. Anyone who came out with a film called "Ghostbusters" would confuse the world if it wasn't based on the 80s property.
