Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

And they would actually make sense as a pair-up.

But where ever would you find a spot for JONAH HILL?!?!!!!!

Did you just say poopy?

Late response, but indeed I did. Maybe it was the 3 year old and 1 year old in front of me (who couldn't read it anyways), but it felt right!

Was having a conversation with my wife about the new Star Wars, but it applies here. I was asking what it would be like taking a stab at creating new, iconic characters. Her reply is that you don't make them iconic. You just write them, cast them, and act them in the best way you can and it's the audience's reception and time that make them iconic. Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zeddemore were just these unknown new characters back in the day. It was a crazy concept that not everybody was on board with when it first released. But they stuck with us throughout the years. Many of us were kids that grew up with them and now here we are 30 years later asking who could ever replace them? No one can replace 30 years of knowing these characters, the connections, the laughs, the tears when one passed on.

I guess all I'm saying is that most of us, the true fans, cannot accurately predict at this point whether or not this move will be a crap one or not. We're too close and nothing will invoke those same feelings as what we've known all these years. I'm 31 and I've never known a time when I was not a fan. But what will truly be the judge if whether or not this will be the best move for the series, if these reboots are made, will be time. Like the original concepts for GB3, it's up to a new generation that we pass the franchise on to, a new generation of fans who will decide whether or not the movies are a success. If we've decided we don't want this now, when we know nothing, it ain't going to change if/when it's released. Personally, I don't see any actors or directors who sign on taking this thing lightly. I'm all in so that maybe my lil one will be just as attached to this franchise as I am when they grow up. Do it right, however that ends up looking.

Nobody who made the first GB a gem is involved here, though. Different writers, different director, different producer, different cast.

It's not GB really, just a funny (hopefully) movie about ghost hunting with the GB name and logo slapped on it. Would an actor really want to be in a bomb just to say he was in the franchise? Maybe we should ask the kid who was in the last Home Alone movie...
I kinda hope they don't change the logo. I mean it's such a classic and recognizable logo.

Sounds like the Female Ghostbusters flick is gonna be Wes Cravens Shocker meets Night At The Museum.

Now if they are rebooting. Wouldn't people want to bring back and revamp Gozer, Key master/Gate Keeper, Slimer, Stay Puft or Teror Dogs? All that crazy weird **** people remember and like and built up through pop culture? Seriously I don't get the point here if they don't even want to bring back anything or come up with some weird ass mythology that's at least somewhat comparable.

I like the idea but why would anyone want to cover up the existence of ghosts?

That I get, of course the government would want to cover it up. But having the Ghostbusters work for the government instead of themsleves? :down

I'll go watch the Channing Tatum/Chris Pratt version. The women can have the Bridesmaidsbusters.

Call me a synic bastard, but if this movie happens, what is stopping the third act from being an all out CGI fest, where the Ghostbusters fight off hordes of green-glowing ghosts swarming NY?

They can't change the logo, it's pretty much all they'll have from the original version.

I just can't get excited about this movie even though I am a fan of Ghostbusters. I don't mind the all female cast, but my biggest complaint is that it has nothing to do with the previous movies. Meaning in this movie the original Ghostbusters never existed which is stupid to me. If that's the case why call this a ghostbusters movie? I guess for now at least we all should just consider the Ghostbusters game that came out for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009 as the offical Ghostbusters 3.

I'd rather see that then what Fieg has planned.

Serial killer comes back as a ghost and resurrects famous evil people as ghosts. Assuming they will look like Star Wars ghosts.

Same reason why the will call Affleck's eventual batman movie a batman movie even though it has nothing to do with the 1966 movie.

The Girlbusters I am fine with as the comics did that with Janine, Kylie and that Mexican chick and it came off as just as funny with digs at how female heroes get a little sexualized by marketing and focus groups. But if they're just going to change up **** for ****'s sake....nah.

This right here. As a comic fan I am no stranger to different universes. Though this is less a difference between 66 Batman and BvS and more like an Earth 2 GBs. At least the mentioned movies keep Bruce Wayne Batman.

Quite excited to see this happen, though and I hope both films get made. Wonder how the hacks will affect the film considering everything's out there for the people now.

So then, what are we defining as the essential elements of ghostbusters??

Is it Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zedemore?
Or is it Proton Packs, Slimer, and floor traps??
Or maybe just fighting ghosts in New York city???

at what point does it really have nothing to do with the Ghostbusters franchise?
Because that article posted on CBM with bits about the plot sounded nothing like GB to me (not to mention the dumbest f***ing thing I've heard all year)

I thought the idea was a good start, but it's nothing more than a pitch, a beginning of an idea and will change significantly by the time this thing gets made.

For me, and I know I'm not the majority, my favorite things about GBs has always been the packs, traps, and car. The idea of wrangling ghosts and catching them as opposed to exorcising or destroying ghosts. I also liked that this supernatural world was mixed with the scientific. It's as if this crazy world that many find hard to believe in was made ordinary by some ordinary Joes in suits with some crazy scientific hypothesis.

I love the original characters...always will, but I don't need them or the original universe for this to be Ghostbusters. Let me see the logo, the equipment, and the theme song and I'll get a better idea as to how I feel about this.

Agreed. If I can accept those animated shows as "true" GB (despite having mostly new casts), then I can accept this. It's much about tone/aesthetic/etc.

Except that the cartoons carried the characters and the mythology. This does not. It's not comparable to the animated series or Batman reboots in any way. If it was they would be recasting Venkman etc.

Batman existed in pop culture before movies were made of him. Everything is an adaptation of the comics. Ghostbusters was a movie first, written and starring actors that were very much their characters. Once you don't have that group of guys, its no longer Ghostbusters. The RGB was just a continuation of those guys' stories in a kid's cartoon.

All an female cast for the sake of an all female cast is just a gimmick and shouldn't be the basis for a Ghostbusters film at all. Same with whatever the hell Tatum wanted to do.

So the batman comics right now aren't batman? because we no longer have that original group of guys writing/drawing it?

Ghost busters is an idea, not 1 or 2 or 3 people.

As men, they're flesh and blood, they can be destroyed...but as a ghostbuster...an ideal....
