Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

Here's the rub for me. I agree that original stuff doesn't sell as well as the built of franchises. It's because with each new installment of a franchise, for all of us that are losing interest in it, there is a new generation falling in love with it. Star Wars is a perfect example. You ask an average older fan and they'll say something along the lines of 'The Prequels suck!' But ask a younger fan and they wouldn't be a part of the fandom without the Prequels or Clone Wars or whatever. So for every one of us that is taking a stand against the nonsense, there are so many more joining the fray because of the new stuff.

We see it in video games to with Call of Duty and other franchises. It's safer to produce and guaranteed to make some money as long as there are little changes here and there. And in this environment, directors and writers are going to find it hard to sell their original ideas. So what do they do? They sign on for some of these big budget franchises and inject their ideas and their vision, make something new of it... and we complain. Why, because that's not the movie I grew up with! These aren't my characters! This isn't my universe! And the cycle continues.

I think one issue is we as fan nerds tend to be very cynical about stuff even if we claim to be more open minded. If something original is released our first instinct is to determine what it's ripping off from before.
Jupiter Ascending ? :woot:

Yes, Jupiter Ascending. If that was based on some graphic novel or tv show ironically I'd think we'd be more forgiving.

Let's be fair, some films centered around "original ideas" just look kinda bad, i even thought that one was based on some generic young adult novel series.

Anybody remember that cartoon "Extreme Ghostbusters"?

I actually enjoyed it for what it was worth. And they had Igon as sort of their mentor. I wouldn't mind a take on that in a film. And maybe have Sigourney Weaver return with her grown son Oscar.

This!

I said early on, the film could've gone that route but have Ray in place of Egon as acting mentor, we get Kylie and the others w/ Oscar as the 5th Ghostbuster.

Ghostbusters is among my favorite films and I've always been interested in a third film, though my interest waned considerably when Harold Ramis died last year. But this just sounds too far removed from the original and can't help but be not interested.

Despite the absence of Ramis and probable non-involement from Bill Murray, I think they probably could've still made a passing-the-torch film work with just Ackroyd and Hudson. So I'm not sure why they aren't doing that.

fingers crossed it is a passing of the torch with ray and winston.

they could save dana and oscar for a sequel so as not to take anything from the new mentees.

Because Sony is run by morons (and the leaked e-mails from last month confirmed it)

Yeah, I actually believe Akroyd might be supportive of this film, but Ernie made his feelings very clear already. Any backpedaling he does now must have had some financial incentive or something.

"If there's a steady paycheck,I'll believe anything you say." :hehe:

If only Bill Murray would come back for Ghostbusters 3 or at least make a cameo then it would be well worth it at least.

Sources say that they offered Bill a role, that of an evil internet blogger that will "reveal" the ghostbusters to the public (since they are a secret government agency). And no, I'm not joking.

Be careful what you wish for. :o

This idea has actually been one of the things I really hope to be true. Considering the relationship with Peck in the first one and the video game, this is just an awesome twist.

But they've answered the question for why they aren't doing it. Nobody wanted to do Ghostbusters. Directors were afraid of making the movie, actors were afraid to star in it, and (my interpretation) it's because of us fans. You see our reaction to Star Wars and Indiana Jones and claiming everything is ruining our childhood and its a lot of heat to take.

When they first introduced Feig as director the interview said that Feig was the only one who would touch the franchise, but he had conditions. He wanted to work with women and he wanted to reboot the franchise and work with a world where ghosts were new.

Sony saw his credential (whether we like it or not Bridesmaids and The Heat were successful) and said, "Finally!" while handing him the reigns.

I love the original cast but lets be honest, their involvement wouldn't necessarily make the film a good or bad idea. It's just the sentiment.

Fantastic Four is being ripped a new one as we speak so I don't think that's a fair statement. Jupiter Ascending just hasn't looked good from the beginning.

MIB with ghosts?

MIB with ghosts?

Yes, Feig didn't want to do a sequel because he doesn't think a world that had two major ghost disasters would make sense. So he made them into a secret government agency that the government doesn't acknowledge that they exist and make up excuses as to why they had to evacuate areas/cities. They send them after the evil spirit of a serial killer that was put to death which would be Peter Dinklage's character. This all came from the hacked Sony emails Feig had with the CEO, I thought they would have made him change it but from the looks of casting and them going after Peter Dinklage I can see that didn't happen.

That's my biggest problem with this movie, all females I don't have an issue with (in my opinion I still think it's a gimmick) but the entire premise is lame.

The original cartoon was a staple of my childhood. I didn't follow the extreme cartoon all the way , but I did like what I saw.

The silver lining in all this could be a new cartoon and possibly a spinoff involving Oscar or something akin to the extreme Ghostbusters. Oscar becoming a ghostbuster seemed like a natural progression for a sequel. It would of been a way to bring in Sigourney without it being forced.

Ugh...naming that kid Oscar was a mistake. It's a cute a name for a baby though. Does anybody know a grown man named Oscar?

None personally. :o:oldrazz:

In all seriousness though, it was weird. But at least they joked about it with the hot dog line.

Someone beat me to it with a list of names.

I also have a friend named Oscar. It's not the most common name , but I've never really thought about it.
