I've only ever known one guy named Oscar, but he was from Haiti. Maybe it's a more popular name there.
So the Ghostbusters will be a secret government agency? So no public busting of ghosts, no scenes like the one in the hotel, no montage of them busting ghosts and becoming huge celebrities. Sounds sort of boring actually, and not all that funny.
True but some will be, the glass is half full as much as half empty. Not to mention those ones not on the list that will be a nice surprise and kick start a new franchise we never knew we wanted.
The thing about this movie is that it'll ride or die by it's first teaser.
If it's a meh teaser, it'll have a chance to open fairly big strictly out of curiosity. Otherwise, i just can't see it having that much of an impact on pop culture like the first film. Or even the second film.

I got $100 that says the first teaser will feature an ominous voiceover about ghosts and spirits, then have it undercut with McCarthy trying to run but is out of breath and making a comment about how unfair ghosts are.
Well it's due to the internet too. It's harder to get ingrained into pop culture because there's so many mini-niche cultures created by the inter webs. That's why MTV doesn't mean anything because it's no long the ONLY source for music and whatever anymore. Or how big brand clothes get hurt when teens would rather create they own fashion threads through pintrest.
If you noticed, the main way to get into the pop lexicon is through: TV shows (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones). Social media (Tumblr, twitter).
Say Walter White and everyone knows who you're talking about. In regards to the film world, you got mostly comic book movies so I don't know if they count.
To be fair, in Spy McCarthy is attempting to play a more meek type character.
Opinions are so fluid, and ever changing. I think backlashes are stupid, and meaningless. It's just a matter of time before people like Chris Pratt gets one. Or my dearest Emma Stone.
Or casting news with Affleck as Batman.
But sometimes, there's weight behind the negatives too. Like the criticisms for the Star Wars prequels (to me) or how Sony is handling Spider-Man is actually legitimate, though some people are trying to deny it for whatever reason.

I meant, there are people who deny the Prequels reputation, making excuses for it, when it's almost a consensus that their reputation is mixed to negative. When major publications like Hollywood Reporter, or even NPR, acknowledge this, it's not opinion but fact. and I'm the guy who defends the crap out of Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters 2. At least i'm not denying that their reputation is mixed.
Indeed, it will depend on how much they can do subtle humor or go for in your face slapstick.
The original had humor in it, obviously but it was played serious towards the actual ghosts and the threat involved. All the original cast were convincing scientists first, even Venkman all be it being the sceptical one. Can this cast pull off that first before laying on the jokes on top of that?
I guess the long wait for the first trailer now holds the only answer.
I don't think that's a bad thing. Temple of Doom dared to be different and I think it succeeded it. I prefer it over Kingdom anyway. I think most people would. Unless they're insane.
