Ghostbusters 3 - Part 3

I liked Evolution, but I loved Ghostbusters 2. I still do not understand the disdain for it. It's not the fresh new idea that the first one is, but I today still laugh at it and I actually appreciated the score and monsters a lot more than GB1. I also liked the slightly more creepy, scary feel.

I didn't find it scary at all, in fact the family friendly feel was essentially what killed it for me. I still remember groaning when they were controlling the Statue of Liberty with a Nintendo joystick.

Vigo the Carpathians backstory was cool but then the shenanigans with the goofy museum lackey guy... ugh.

A bad case of sequelitis made even worse by the greatness of the first one. I know a lot of GB fans like it. I wish I could.

One thing that always bothered me about GB2 was why all of a sudden many of the New Yorkers stopped believing ghosts existed. They went back to accusing them of being crazy or behind everything again. Did everybody forget about the hundreds of ghosts and a Stay Puft Marshmellow Man roaming around the city?

That was just weird to me.

I would have no problem with Wiig and McCarthy in a reboot to this:

Evolution had a cool concept. I remember them really selling that film on the fact it was made by the people who brought us Ghostbusters. Even Dan Akroyd made and appearance.

It doesn't make much sense, but you can see that they maybe felt the way that Feig did in that they liked that originesque feel where ghosts weren't commonplace and still scary rather than like the pests of Aykroyd's original concept. Feig understood, and I agree with him, that setting the movie so far after the original would bring a different feel for the ghosts than if the new movie is a reboot where ghosts haven't been accepted yet.

Take in mind that I was 6 at the time, but numerous severed heads on a stick and appearing out of nowhere was scarier and darker than anything of the original to me. When I watch it now, I don't find either scary, though.

They also reflect different periods. The original is all 80's and something about that makes it feel a bit cheerier, like all 80's feel to me (still love them, though).

GB2 was on its way into the 90's and felt a bit different. Still a bit cheesy, but it was just darker and creepier. The music helped for me. Less whimsidasical and more ominous. The theme for Vigo and the slime that was featured in the song 'Spirit' was always just perfect to me.

I hate to be redundant but I just can't get excited about this movie. I just do like the fact that they don't want the movie to be in continuity or even acknowledge the original movies. There are much better solutions out there than what they are giving us. I watched Ghostbusters 1&2 last week and got disappointed that none of the magic of those movies will be present in the 2016 film. Again, I am not really mad the ghostbusters are females, but the one cast member I am really not looking forward to seeing is Mcarthy. I don't hate her, and she has her charm. But at this point, I am tired of her comedy routine. It's nothing but " O look at me I am fat, isn't it funny?". It's the same as Rebel Wilson both have the same comedy routine. Honestly, I think everyone should consider the 2009 Ghostbusters game the offical Ghostbusters 3.

I wonder what the remainder of the original cast thinks about this. I know Ernie Hudson, flip flopped about the idea of female ghostbusters. I don't know if Dan Said anything about this movie. Bill Murray was one of the reasons Ghostbusters 3 never got of the ground in the first place, so I know he doesn't give a crap. But definitely would love to hear Dan's thoughts.

Dan said he's all for the movie and the cast, though haters of the movie just say he's being paid off. I think he's being genuine. Bill hasn't really said anything after the cast announcement, to my knowledge, but he said he was all for female Ghostbusters. He even mentioned McCarthy and Wiig should play in it.

this is the REAL Ghostbusters 3

I can definitely get behind this as a gamer. I'm one of those people who watches my movies in order, no matter what, and I always replay the game before starting again at GB. Having the whole cast together is priceless, especially after losing Ramis, and I'll never forget how great it felt to catch my first ghost in the basement of the firehouse. Perfect! And then there's that firehouse! So much love was poured into is and it hurts my heart that this was followed up by Sanctum of Slime which was just terrible.

Dan Akroyd has been saying he would pass the torch to a younger cast where Bill Murray was initially offended by the idea. I think they've been very vocal about how they felt over the years. It's kind of funny that Bill seems to have initiated the conversation about all females , but the reality is he probably knew well in advance it was being considered. Akroyd just wants it to continue because it's basically his 'baby'. Money always plays a factor , but you can't knock him for that. I'd be selling Ghostbusters off if I could. Ernie Hudson is the only one that seems suspect because he's spoke out against it and then flipped his opinion. Maybe he knows something we don't. I'm surprised we haven't heard from Sigourney Weaver yet

Speaking of Ernie Hudson, anyone notice that he got the shaft on most of the original posters and marketing for the movies? His name isn't even on the cover of the DVD copies of Ghostbusters 1 or 2. It has Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver. I am planning on upgrading to the Blu Ray set at some point, so I don't know if it's changed for the 30th anniversary set. I have the 2005 DVD double feature box set that came with the movie scrapbook. He totally got the shaft on that set.

I actually feel very bad for Hudson. They even gave the animated role to Arsenio (who did great) though Hudson was willing to reprise it. If there is anyone deserving of a prominent role in a Ghostbusters film, it's him. I'd love it if he played a tech role in the new films. Doesn't have to be Winston, but someone whose great with the car and the gear. Of course, I have no idea what the script looks like so I couldn't tell you how he'd fit, but we need to see more Hudson love in the franchise because he's been a good sport representing the franchise at so many conventions.

Come to NC, Winston!

Isn't this the purpose of every reboot/sequel, to broaden a franchise to a new, modern audience? I don't consider that a jab at the new movie.

Yes, but when the new and modern twist is an all female team, working behind closed doors for the FBI - well, it bares no relation to the original concept - this is what i am saying - they could have easily called Evolution 'Ghostbusters: Evolution' and have the cameo of Ray etc just to link it to the original and get as much out of the franchise as they can - or they just say, you know what, let's (even though it's in spirit to the GB) try a new franchise and see where that goes. This is why this new film shouldn't be ghost busters, it should be called 'fright night' or 'scary ghouls' and it will, if the content is strong enough, stand on it's own two feet with out the name 'ghostbusters' and then we can see where it goes.

ugh...i know. Sanctum of Slime was a sorry excuse for a "sequel." nothing more than a cash grab

although it's unlikely the game will get a true sequel i still hope it happens. at the very least i would love to have a Ghostbusters game based on the 80s animated series

That would be so great. I'm excited for Toy Fair a week from tomorrow. Hopefully we see Matty's Real Ghostbusters offering and I've heard we'll see Diamond Select's Ghostbusters figures. Indeed a great time to be a fan, even if you judged the new movie before seeing it or having enough concrete details.

Here is a nice writeup about it by Ernie.

Since we already have a couple of high-end, high-involvement games based on the original franchise, a freemium app-based MMPO game based on TRG would be awesome.

Funny, I didn't find anything frightening about GB1 (saw it when I was 6). However I always had to turn my head during the subway scene in GB2, and when the ghost kidnaps Oscar I was a little crept out (was 8 when I saw that). Different strokes.

The terror dogs and Zuul in the fridge scared me as a child. Nothing in GBII was all that scary for me.

I think Vigo's scheme was a lot more horrifying than Gozer's, when you sit down and really look at what he was trying to do.

As I said, I love GB 2, but what was up with how they defeated Vigo? We got an explanation with crossing the streams, closing the door, and banishing Gozer. So Vigor just took being vaporized by the streams and happy goo?

I think I'll be happy when Mattel finally releases the Proton Pack. Two questions though...

1) I don't know how Dan Ackroyd is doing financially, but if he could couldn't buy the rights to Ghostbusters? I'm kind surprised he doesn't own the rights being that it's his baby.

2) Did anyone else besides me watch the Real Ghostbusters before seeing or even knowing about the movie? When I was a kid I loved the show but never knew it was a movie until I saw the box at a video store.

That was just weird to me.

That was the joke.

I totally thought the show came first when I was a kid. So watching the movie I'd treat it like an adaptation of the show and question why they left things out from the Real Ghostbusters. I was also a little confused by the 'other' Ghostbusters cartoon and toys on the shelf.

Man... maybe with an announcement of the new movie Matty will finally poor some money into that Proton Pack. Their prop line is just incomplete without it. Currently, the Matty wand is attached to my proton pack replica, but I don't have lights or sound in it right now.

Mattycollector will release the proton pack, but it will be only available to those who purchase the Club Barbie membership for $8,000.
