Ghostbusters 3 - Part 4

Check out the bottom portion with the handle. Is that the trap contained within the pack?

You might be right. I thought it could be earlier, but didn't notice the handle. Could also be an exchangeable batter pack or something, similar to the canisters on the Extreme GB guns. Actually, the pack is a bit Extreme Ghostbusterish, but with a rounder center instead of rectangular.

I love the new proton pack. It looks like something a new startup, tight on cash, would make. No doubt, the classic one is classic. But it looked a little too high tech. This not only looks like it was cobbled together on a small budget, but also very used.

(awaits the sexist rant on the radiation symbol, though)

I like them. Anyone else catch the little heart in the radioactive symbol?

Ask and you shall receive.

Meh. Looks like a pasta strainer attached to a toolbox. Should've kept the old ones..... which for being built in 1984 look more high tech than this....

Then my memory is clouded by the toy proton pack I used to have.

The old ones looked like they'd give you cancer if you kept them on too long. That was kind of the point, but in this day and age...nah.

I like it. A little bit more intricate in its design elements, but still very straightforward and simple as tech designs go. Looks like its sort of cobbled-together from spare parts, but not cheap. Looks high-tech but practical. The tiny little "caution" line is humorous, and yes, that looks like some kind of storage unit at the bottom. I think the trap mechanism may well be part of the wand, and that's the disposal unit/trap.

Also, this is probably a proto-proton pack. With film's penchant for origin elements, I'm sure this will evolve.

I like the suit but I hate the pack. It's too small and doesn't look like a nuclear powered device at all.

1. What does that even mean?

2. Maybe they're not nuclear accelerators. Maybe something else powers them. It is, after all, 2015, not the 80's.

Edit: Although the radioactive symbol would suggest otherwise.

Well, I opened the pack pic on my Surface Pro and got a better look at it. Hot damn, I like it even more after noticing it being a bit more busy than what I first saw. The grating in the center revealing lot's of wiring inside and what not. I also am smiling at the heart hidden in the radioactive symbol.

Ok, I've always been down for this film, but I always new the look of the gear is what could hurt that. I'm really on board now and cannot wait until next year.

Meanwhile, my wife keeps hoping for the opportunity to buy a toy pack of it or something so that she can put together a cosplay for the film. I'll be decked out as a 1st generation guy and she as the next generation. Nice!

Jumpsuits and proton packs looks great. There is zero reason why this shouldn't be in the same world as the original.

Should have just went high tech look goven how technology is today, the older antique shop looks bad.

I don't see how "today's technology" is relevant when talking about a piece of sci-fi gear. It looks built out of spare parts in someones garage which I assume is the point. It's not an iPack. They're not going to make little rubber snuggies to wrap round it so it doesn't break when you drop it while shopping at The Gap.

I like it. I'll always like the original proton packs, still hoping Mattel will make one one day, but I like the sort of low tech DIY look of this one. I'm curious as to what those numbers means, how much energy is left?

All we need now is a photo of the ladies suited up.

Its a reboot based in todays world with all our sleek technology from phones to household appliances. People are developing holograms in there garages now. The old look of what you described worked in the original, highly doubt it will mesh well in a modern retelling. Whats next were gonna remake scream and still have long cord house phones in modern setting?

but there pretending the 1st 2 never happened so what do I know.......

Making them sleek and all sounds nice, but look up the homemade nuclear reactor hobby. Nothing sleek about them. What we see in movies like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future is pretty on the nose with respect to the aesthetic of those things. This new Ghostbusters is keeping in line with that pretty well.

Its a fake movie about failed scientist living in an abandon firehouse hunting goofy looking ghost, you can make it sleek without going nolan realism
Route.

Maybe they could repurpose the Enterprise bridge set from Star Trek 09 for their hq. That ought to be sleek enough.

Comparing what? I'm making light of this notion that homebrewed-looking equipment somehow doesn't work in a modern setting. It's preposterous.

Come on now baby your comparing a far distance future to 2016 new york. Next summer our phones could have holographic keyboards for all we know.

Oh, I totally agree with the fiction argument. I actually was hoping for something with a certain slickness to it. I don't mind what we got, though, but partly because it's justifiable. I'd be curious to see these things get upgrades. GB2 went to town on the Ecto-1, and the video game put the proton packs on a serious steroid regimen. I'm hoping we get to see the new team(s) beef up, improve, and slim down the equipment in this and subsequent films.

My mistake. I read it wrong. I agree with your assessment.
