Maybe that's why I like this trailer.

And I've always dug Jason Reitman's films so that could also be why.
Divorcing this from the fact it's a Ghostbusters sequel the thought of a Jason Reitman horror-adventure Amblin riff is pretty fun. Even though, honestly, I would be happy never seeing anything even tangentially Amblin inspired ever again.

Who say's Peter's line? Doesn't sound like Bill Murray

Well maybe I have to watch a clip of that old part from the first film. If it him then that's cool whether it's a sound bite or Venkman saying it again

It's weird how things change. 4 years ago I saw a trailer for a gimmicky reboot that was doing little more than being Hollywood pandering at its finest. 4 years later and the actual sequel to the original movie comes across just as foreign, if not more so. This is all just so bizarre.

Really?

Pretty sure it is Bill. Sounds like Bill to me at least
As an absolute Venkman obsessive, that wasn't Bill Murray's soundbite from the original Ghostbusters BUT it might have been him still. It was definitely an older voice. I couldn't quite place it as Bill, it almost sounded more like Ray... perhaps repeating what Venkman once said to him? (maybe to Venkman!)

Nope. That's 100% the soundbite from the original movie.

Agree that it's Peter Venkman saying that line from the original movie. It might sound different because it's lifted from the soundtrack without all of the ambient sound since the original one was filmed outdoors.

I like that at least they're not trying to duplicate the goofy genius of the original, but we'll see if the more horror leaning approach is successful.

Yeah I think taking the line out of the scene with the background and the visual totally threw me. I know Bill Murray's voice so well and even knowing it IS him... it still doesn't sound like the voice I know. Happy he's been included (even in a small part) in the trailer.

we all scream "wish they do something different than same thing 3 tmes" well this is that
and I'm in big fan Finn already even thought from the looks of it he's playing Mike from Stranger things that just tells me he will be great lol

But the mood, the tone, the mystery. None of that was present in GB 2016. I hardly remember a scene without anyone shouting or talking constantly.

There was no mystery. You knew the guy, Roland, was behind it from the beginning. All they did was shame him for a lack of sexual experience for an hour and a half while NOT catching any ghosts. I think this movie will be made far better by pretending the 2016 film didn't happen.

As for the current one, I showed it to my kids last night when we got home, and they both flipped out. They LOVED it. They couldn't quite make out the "Spengler" on the suit, so I told them it was Egon's, and they were excited. When Venkman's voiceover started, I thought my son was going to lose it. They are already counting down to summer!

THAT is the measure of success. Kids are excited. You want Ghostbusters movies? Hook them early! Also, for it to be the "true Ghostbusters sequel", you want another monster terrorizing New York and the boys suit up to save the day...? They've done it twice...and part 2 isn't exactly loved by the general population. I say switch it up.

Personally, I would like to think the Cross-rip caused the veil between this life and the afterlife to be sealed up completely, causing the pressure between worlds to build to the point of it rupturing. The solution at the end could be something like Egon was working on opening a spiritual "relief valve" to let some spirits cross back and forth between the planes at a reasonable pace, but maybe he passed on, and has been working from the other side, only to find Gozer on the other side rallying the ghosts and trying to rupture the barrier.

Okay, that's just my theory....

*high fives*
Preach. We're Stranger Things fans at my house, too.

As much as I would've loved a true "Ghostbusters 3", I do think the ship has sailed for that. Though I really do hope at the very least Ray and Winston have bigger roles than just cameos.

But I really do think if they make a film that stands alone as a fun Amblin-influenced, supernatural/sci-fi story through the eyes of wide-eyed kids-- and on top of that, weave in an emotional story of what happened to the original gang, I think we could be in for something pretty special.

I also think not trying to shoehorn in a new cast of familiar comedians to be the Ghostbusters 2.0 is the right move. The chemistry the original cast had was just something you can't recreate. But I think finding a fresh way to carry on that legacy is the franchise's last hope for survival.

I'm fine with the focus being on the kids but just really hope Rudd gets to suit up and bust some ghosts! The original cast suiting up and getting some action would be amazing even if in a small scene or at the final showdown

They should make more scary Ghostbusters movie at some point. Like the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon:
