Gina Carano is No Longer Cara Dune... Fortunately

It’s a nice bonus when an actor you like also seems to be a cool person, but I can still enjoy someone as an actor and set offscreen stuff aside.

Not that Gina Carano is such a good actress anyway, but her presence doesn’t affect my enjoyment of The Mandalorian and I’d kind of like them to continue the arc they’ve obviously started with her.

I just don't believe in ****ty people getting fat paycheques and their own show when there are more deserving people out there.

Being able to separate the actor from their work is a privilege. It's like if James Woods was still getting high paying gigs even with all the damage he inflicts from his social media. The ones who don't care aren't the ones who are affected. Unfortunately, Gina Carano and her crap fans punch down and there are certainly SW fans feeling the affects of that.

Like I have said before I don't agree with a single thing Gina Carano has said in those dumb tweets, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying her character this season. I get it if some are able to separate the two, but I can definitely enjoy and love this show even with her being in it.

Yeah...I don’t agree with her AT ALL, but I do enjoy the character. It’s the same way I enjoy Tom Cruise movies, even though he’s bats**t crazy in real life. I don’t agree with his personal beliefs, but I do like the M:I movies.

I guess it all comes down to how bad the offense is, at least for me. For example, Roman Polanski is a sexual predator and I don’t watch his films no matter how talented of a director he once was.

As for Carano, I’m not sure the whole “differing political views” argument is really a good one here, because people like her have gone beyond that. If she was just a registered Republican, that would be one thing. But dangerous and harmful rhetoric like the bile she’s spewing is part of the reason 300,000+ people are dead in this country and why racist lunatics are threatening civil war. That goes beyond political opinion.

On the other hand... I still really like the show and I like her character on the show, so it’s a tough one for me. I don’t want to quit on this series because it’s very good, and since she’s not the main character it’s not all that hard to just put my disdain for her as a person aside. However, I wouldn’t watch a series centered on her.

I enjoyed the character and her portrayal. Politics be damned, I enjoyed what I saw on the show. I want more of it, so please don't destroy it with politics and cancel culture.

Gina is entitled to her views but I'm not a fan of how she's been needling on social media. She needs to just keep her head down and look after her career.

I think she's been really good in Mandolorian; great presence on the screen and she is quite beautiful. She has everything one needs to have a very successful career on the screen so hopefully she'll just lay off the provocativeness on social media.

If she continues to keep talking though then may it be on her head. If I tweeted the same stuff on social media about trans or gender fluid people I'm pretty sure I'd be fired from my job, regardless of whether I was off the clock. That's the way things are now and she needs to exercise her common sense in future.

Her being a ****y person just adds insult to injury, there's nothing to be lost and plenty to be gained by replacing her with someone who has more acting talent than the desk I'm sitting at.

If Gal Gadot can get to play a lead that requires emotional acting then Carano can certainly play a stoic secondary character. Carano is definitely more believable in a fight scene as well.

As far as real life views go, I don't care. There are so many weird or moronic people in Hollywood but as long as they produce something interesting in their line of work that's good enough for me. I don't need to be able to hang out with them.

Eh she’s obviously not a good actress, but I think they’ve done a fairly good job skirting around her limitations and not giving her stuff that really taxes her to a painful extent.

A major series in a major franchise from a major studio should do better than that, if you have to skirt around someones limitations then that person probably doesn't deserve the role. I think Carano is a misguided idiot, her career doesn't have to be over for being that, but it's an opportunity to both negate her as a potentially ongoing publicity problem and improve the show.

It isn't the end of the world that they won't fire her but I don't see any upside to keeping her.

Her big battle moment, felt forced and her dialog was... It existed. The "One X-Wing" line was good, sure... But the rest was the definition of perfunctory in my mind.

Carano is mediocre as hell. I don't care that she looks like a cool action figure, she's a weak actor. The character should be dropped for that alone, but Carano being trash in real life just seals the deal for me. Put any decent actor in a cool costume and you've stepped up already.

Yeah the more the show goes on and the more they introduce more compelling characters, the less we need Cara Dune. Katee Sackhoff and Ming Na acted circles around her in the finale. Gina was fine but the more you surround her with genuinely good actors, the more glaring her weaknesses become. So if they wrote her out of the show, it wouldn’t matter much.

And yeah, if people aren’t bothered by her transphobic tweets or her Covid-denying and pro-fascism tweets (or are able to just ignore them) and can just enjoy the show, that is their right. But I don’t think it’s fair to ask members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, or just people who don’t want to die of COVID to just set aside their dislike of her when she supports things that directly threaten our lives AND has been incredibly vocal about that support. Like Sithborg said, the moment you join Parler, you basically confirm your status as a garbage person.

The most ironic thing though is that she plays a rebel on this show who adamantly hates the space Nazis. I guess she’s a better actor than we give her credit for lol.
