Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

The final sequence doesn't look very good. The motion of the titans were sped up and it looks unnatural.

The CGI looks off as well and King Ghidorah looks texture-less. But I'm sure the special fx department will fix everything in post-production.

Post Production finished 3 weeks ago...the movie is done.

I think the final battle will be Gidorah and Rodan vs Godzilla and Mothera.

The first trailer felt way more mythical (plus it's hard to beat something like Clair de Lune).

And there's something great about how Gareth Edwards captured the monster in shots like this...

So imposing and it feels like you are watching a real thing happening just in front of you. The new film looks kinda... dunno... doesn't look like I'm watching a real event like here:

I somewhat miss something in this new trailer.

Plus the Godzilla run at the end looked so unnatural/fake.

Loved Mothra.

In the shots you show he keeps the camera's POV at human eye level, he also shoots it through the kind of foreground humans would interact with (like office windows and bus windows), the director of this movie prefered to go for a more generic "monster eye-level" POV for the fight sequences, which puts us in the persective of the monsters themselves, though ironically makes them seem smaller in the over context of the frame (then again, some setpieces would have been almost impossible to film otherwise, like Rodan killing fighter planes away from any human interaction except that for the fighter planes themselves).

That concept looks too much like a T-Rex head to me.

And honestly, I don't see anything wrong with that. Why can't Godzilla have a head shape like that? Is it so wrong? Godzilla is a reptile, and I don't see why he can't have a head shape like one.

The first film played it like a natural disaster flick. A force of nature colliding with civilization. The monsters being metaphors of those forces of nature. Its reserved colors and presentation looks like something youd expect from a more grounded film.

This film plays it more like Pacific Rim crossed with a Rolland Emmerich film. A straight spectacle dust em up and colorful destruction porn.

About Big G, I think he looked a lot better in the first film. The dorsal fins are now too big and he just looks fat and kind of goofy.

I wish more of it took place in daylight like Skull Island, but the scale of the movie is grand! My favourite shot was the jets battling Mothra!(?)

He does have a head shape like a reptile. His head on that close up reminds me of a Kommodo.

Besides, we've all seen a t-rex and that sort of design multiple times on film. It's nice having something different.

I am liking this one so far 10x more than the first film. We have 3 more classic Toho monsters, and actual monster action that doesn't cut away when things get good. I have high hopes for this one.

This is gonna be epic. I had Hopes that it would at least be good, but this looks to exceed my expectations.

My worry was how they would make mothra look good and boy they got it right.. trailer was epic!

Trailer was meh...the first trailer (Comic Con) was much better.
That was really something unique

Are you sure?

It's no secret that for Godzilla's face in these movies, the two major inspirations were bears and eagles (that's what Gareth Edwards had said) and it really really shows, in unflattering ways.

Yeah it's like a stockier kommodo. It's not identical, but the first thing I thought of during that close up was a kommodo. But I can def see the bear skull design inspiration in the snout.

Regardless tho even if a bear partially inspired the design of G's face that doesnt really matter. He still looks enough like a lizard and has the lizard skin. He doesnt need to look dinosaur (which are pretty much all speculative designs anyways) or identical to a modern lizard species.

wow that looks insane count as one of the guys who just want to see monster mayhem not interested in the human story at all just get to the mayhem

Oh my ****ing god that trailer. Just incredible. The massive scale and some absolutely breathtaking shots in there.

I enjoy both trailers a ton. I love their differences. Love the beauty of the music and tone in the first trailer. But I also love the sheer destruction, fighting and hard hitting music of this one.

May 31 hurry up please. Can anyone make an avy that closeup shot of Zilla’s face where he’s snarling? Unless someone else has called it.

Komanga?

The giant spider dude.

Anyway, I've bee too busy to watch the trailer!!!! AHH
:cmad:

It's a great trailer. I would give it a 8.5 out of 10.
My biggest issue is how dark it all looked. It's certainly their way of hiding the CGI.

Hopefully the final product won't be too dark because then it's just hard to fully appreciate the magnitude of what we are seeing on screen.
Yes, I like well lit scenes when we are witnessing such greatness so we can appreciate it all in perfect clarity.

Not sure if it'll work since now you can't see the avatar size limits, so let me know if it doesn't and I'll see if I can do anything about it.

So....anyone have any idea who this is?

Could be Megaguirus? Though it could be that they've invented new monsters, I know a few people have said they don't have the rights to use any more Toho monsters.

Either way, I think there's only four monsters getting significant screen time.

Not in regards to Godzilla. Despite his origin as a dinosaur or reptile, he's never had the face of one, and I've wanted to see it for a long time now.

I once had someone draw that concept head on the 2014 Godzilla, I think it came out well.
