Everything about that movie works except for the characters. Had Cranston been kept around the entire film, I honestly think we'd be having a different conversation about it.

I like ATJ, I like Elizabeth Olsen, Sally Hawkins and David Stathairn and Ken Watanabe are all great actors. But man, the human characters were dull beyond all reason.

I get that Edwards wanted to take the Jurassic Park/Jaws approach with Godzilla, but it worked for those films because the characters/actors were likable. You don't have that, you're not getting away with it.

I have no doubt if Cranston wasn't killed off, at least at the beginning, 2014 Godzilla would have been a significantly better movie. I watched it about 6 months ago for the first time since 2014 and the movie completely flatlines when he's killed off. It's not that the film is terrible after that, but all the life that Cranston brought was completely sucked out of the movie.

Dark stormy weather for a fight has always been a cliche that works as far as badass goes, so that's part of the excuse. The other being CG can be hidden well with that type of thing.

The "hiding CGI in the rain" is a complete misnomer. Dark and rain is helpful if you're hiding an animatronic, but not for CGI. CGI is actually way easier to composite effectively with hard bright light sources. That's why something like District 9 looks as good as it does on a $30 million budget.

If you set a CGI scene in the dark and in the rain you are forced to render multiple light sources, along with the rain itself, all of the water physics and interactions. It is several magnitudes more difficult and expensive.

I actually like Godzilla 2014. People retroactively act like it was this big failure.

It's a Star Trek Into Darkness situation where financially it did fine but it's not a movie most people really liked and the large gap between sequels really allowed that to set in.

I'm afraid this new film will l also suffer a similar situation to Star Trek Beyond where a much better sequel is made, course correcting what many people disliked about the previous film...but no one goes to see it. The marketing here at least has been much better than Beyond's was.

Also, all things considered, it's a good thing that Godzilla vs Kong already shot and is happening no matter what happens with this film's box office.

It's a Star Trek Into Darkness situation where financially it did fine but it's not a movie most people really liked and the large gap between sequels really allowed that to set in.

I'm afraid this new film will l also suffer a similar situation to Star Trek Beyond where a much better sequel is made, course correcting what many people disliked about the previous film...but no one goes to see it. The marketing here at least has been much better than Beyond's was.

Also, all things considered, it's a good thing that Godzilla vs Kong already shot and is happening no matter what happens with this film's box office.

Nobody saw Beyond because of how crowded July 2016 was. It was sandwiched between other movies like Ghostbusters and Jason Bourne. There just wasn't any room. The marketing mishandling made things worse.

I get the feeling that Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe and Charles Dance's characters are gonna die in this movie, since only Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown are listed to return for Godzilla Vs. Kong.

Same. This is easily my second most anticipated film of the summer right after John Wick and I'm glad to hear that it apparently delivers on everything I have ever wanted out of one of these movies.

Personally i thought the 2014 film sucked and hardly any Godzilla or fun or thrills like the Japanese ones! but this one will be an improvement and should deliver.
