Want a cool poster?

Review embargos are scary: on one hand it builds the suspense and the hype, not just on the film but on wanting it to be lifted early; but on the other, waiting late to lift it is a bad sign that the movie may be isn't good, or really isn't good.

If this is good as I hope it is I can't wait to add the official movie poster next to my other ones. I actually need to see which posters they made for this.

Embargo for this is at a place where it can go either way I think. if it was like the day before I'd be more worried. I'm not expecting this to be critically panned personally.

I absolutely fail to see how this movie can get worse reviews than the 2014 one.

I mean, I loved it, but the character development was essentially non-existent. I don't know if the humans will be any better here, but there should be a lot more monster action to make up for that.

I just returned from seeing the movie. I'm keeping this simple: THIS is the Godzilla movie you've been waiting to see! Any complaints you had about the 2014 movie are fixed here. The human characters are great and the monster action is ****ING INSANE! HUGE kudos to Dougherty to succeeding where Gareth Edwards failed. The balance between the monster fights and the human plot is more balanced here and the movie's faster paced. The acting all around is spot on! Special mention goes to Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown in particular! Also, Bear McCreary's score is EPIC! Old-school Godzilla fans are gonna love hearing the old themes used in his style and his and Serj Tankanian's cover of Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla is amazing. DEFINITELY buy the soundtrack ASAP! Overall, definitely go see this next week! This is going on my best of 2019 list for sure.

One more thing: STAY AFTER THE CREDITS! It's not exactly a Kong Vs. Godzilla lead-in (well, not that i know of for sure, yet), but you won't be disappointed.

9/10

That, and the marketing was much, much better. Also, probably some movie fatigue in there.

Wow, that's rather low, isn't it? Didn't Godzilla open to like 90 million in 2014?
Yep. The 2014 film didn't exactly ignite buzz for a sequel. And like Sithborg said, it had more hype (due to it being our first Godzilla in the current blockbuster climate) and better marketing.

Had an opportunity to see this earlier tonight and it was a definite improvement over the first...and I still enjoyed the heck out of that film as well.

The family drama is a little cliche but the monster on monster action is big, bold and beautiful. Godzilla truly is the king!
