Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Yep. The 2014 film didn't exactly ignite buzz for a sequel. And like Sithborg said, it had more hype (due to it being our first Godzilla in the current blockbuster climate) and better marketing.

This is a time where I'm just completely on a different page than the audience. I'm far more hyped for this than I ever was the 2014 film. I mean King Ghidorah is in this! King Ghidorah! On paper at least this is the American Godzilla movie I always wanted.

I'm more hyped for it too, but I think casual moviegoers aren't kaiju fans and were just dazzled by the notion of seeing a big budget Godzilla in today's blockbuster climate. That's where the hype came from in the first one. That novelty is gone, and most of 'em don't know these other monsters at all.

It also doesn't help that while Godzilla '14 released in a busy month, it wasn't quite as packed as this May is. Ads were competing with each other. And the later trailers never quite matched the magic of the first one we saw.

Listening to the score on Spotify. I like the main title theme a lot. It's not what I was expecting tho.

Yep. The first film wasted the hype. General audiences care about Godzilla. It was the job of the first film to get people hyped about Godzilla again, and see where that takes us. It failed to do that and so while we are all geek'ing out about the new/old monsters, the general audiences don't even really notice.

Hopefully good word of mouth gives it decent legs and hopefully internationally it can make a killing.
Well I am just hoping it is good first. I still feel kind of burned on the first film. To the point I haven't seen Kong yet.

Kong has its own, different sets of issues. Definitely a bit more fun than Godzilla '14.

Check out Kong. It's a bit of a trifle and Larson and Hiddleston are just... Kinda there? But it is fun, the effects are really good, there are some gruesome kills, Reilly is a ton of fun and it doesn't meander, it gets right down to the action pretty quickly.

There's even some subtext about how, like in Vietnam, people can become locked onto a course of action without an exit stategy based on pride which can tumble into obsession and madness very easily.

Is it a great work of art? Nah... But it9a solid and entertaining giant monster movie that applies the lessons learned from G'14.

I do plan on seeing it before this one hits next week. I have meant to see it, but yeah, just never had the drive to get it done, especially after finding out Larson is just there in it. The release of this seems as good a reason as any.

It's a nice film to just kick back with. I will say... Watch the credits. And no, not just for the post cred. All I'll say is it has to do with Reilly's character and it is kinda sweet and touching.

I think the first film did OK at the time. HOWEVER, I don't think it's aged very well either. So hopefully this one is better.

Finally got my tickets for next Thursday at 7:00pm. I am so hyped too man. I'm seeing it at the same theatre I saw John Wick at and the sound in that theatre was already incredible for that one. I can't even imagine what's in store for me with this movie, but I know its going to be glorious and beyond epic.

I'm actually a fan of the first movie even though I agree with it's flaws. It is easily one of the best Godzilla movies ever made in my eyes. Let's no pretend the originals haven't had a lot of trash thrown in there (even though it is good fun trash to me)

However it is definitely hurting this movie I feel. I also feel this movie took waay too long to come out. They were screen testing this thing early 2018. The whole plot has been out there since then. lol.

But...one of them is a Three Headed Dragon!!! I don't care how little you know about said Three Headed Dragon, it's Godzilla fighting a Three Headed Dragon!!! If you're someone who doesn't think that is cool, then...you're just someone I cannot understand :o

Suffice to say of all the movie coming out for the rest of the year, this either number 1 or 2. It's this, FFH, and It Chapter 2 for me as my top 3 for the rest of the year. Yes, I am more pumped for any of these 3 over Episode 9, lol

On the subject of the previous American Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, I liked both movies. I think Godzilla is underrated, but I would agree that once Cranston exits the movie, it loses a lot of steam. Like, a lot a lot. The second half of the movie is merely okay, and the MUTOs are very underwhelming. But the idea of following Godzilla fighting monsters from the ground level looking up I thought was cool, though could have been better executed (and has been since).

Kong: Skull Island I only saw for the 1st time last month. I wanted to see it in theaters, but it came out at a busy time and I missed it. Then I just kept not watching it despite having bought the Blu Ray last Black Friday. But as this one drew nearer, I figured it was time to make time. Glad I did. While it is not the best Kong movie ever, it was solid and entertaining.

They are showing a lot but my god it's such a damn epic monsters brawl.
