Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Uh, hate to break it to you, man, but Shin Goji isn't part of that upcoming series. They were originally going to make a sequel to it, but they canned it and eventually decided on the cinematic universe idea instead.

Its less canned, than the director, Hideaki Anno has this other, long gestating project some people are getting anxious for a conclusion. A little know series of animated movies that are a remake of this other little know anime...

Neon Genesis Evangelion? Or something else

Gamera vs Godzilla would be epic and a first.. too bad the states isn’t into big monster brawls..

So I had two thoughts, one really dumb. The first is that I figure given the after credits to KotM, Godzilla and Kong will team up in the end.

The second, dumb one, was that the big fight of GvK is in fact against the title monsters. And Kong wins, and since Godzilla became King of the Monsters, now he is... King Kong.
Trust me, I like Godzilla much better so I don’t like the idea of Kong winning, but it’s not like he didn’t sort of lose in the 60s too.

Kong is 99.5% guaranteed to win in GvK. It's not a matter of power set, he's just literally an underdog, and we know how much Hollywood loves those in their movies.

Except Toho would never in a thousand years be ok with it. They hate Gamera since it's produced by a rival company.

Pretty much.

Personally what I hope happens, (because we known theres gunna be at least one more monster or two in the movie) is that in the final Goji & Kong team up. Godzilla sacrifices himself to save Kong and Kong takes the Alpha mantle as a way to honor Goji. Maybe they introduce Minilla/Goji Jr for Kong to take care of IDK.

Maybe Godzilla survives at the end too. Toho seems pleased with the results so far with the Monsterverse so hopefully we'll get more movies down the line.

Didn't they make two versions of GvK in the 60s? One where Kong wins (US version) and one where Godzilla wins (Japanese version).

That's been debunked. There's only one cut of that movie and Kong wins.

The fact that Dougherty is one of the writers for kvg.. I refuse to believe he will let Godzilla lose .. but let’s see what happens .. any word on trailer for this movie?

I predict a teaser trailer with IT Chapter 2.

Just saw this movie. It was really boring...almost as boring as the 2014 Godzilla. Hated Vera’s character too.

I thought it was an alright watch despite having a ton of flaws. More screen time may have been devoted to the monsters but I feel like Gareth Edwards handled the scale of it better. I was... not as impressed with Godzilla in this as compared to the first one. Shockingly, Ghidorah was also kind of underwhelming for me personally . Rodan was cool though and Mothra was awesome, but they really didn’t get to do a lot. Their individual scenes were cool especially their awakenings but their fight was pretty underwhelming other than Mothra shanking Rodan. It was super annoying how they kept cutting to the human stuff. Also, I feel like they literally showed everything in the trailers.

The human characters were pretty dumb here but I found them more entertaining than the blank-faced, constantly dumbfounded-looking characters of the 2014 film. Still they were very, very dumb. Especially the supposedly smart people. Why would you bring your child to the place where you have giant monsters!? From the trailers, I thought Millie Bobby Brown’s character had a psychic link to the monsters or something but nope. Just a normal child whose mother is fine with endangering her life by bringing her to work where the gigantic, dormant, radioactive monsters lie. Also, what they did to Sally Hawkins was criminal. Just plain mean.

I honestly thought she was gonna have more screentime and carry on Serizawa's work after he died. Boy I did not expect them to kill her off the way they did, and that early into the movie.

My biggest problem with the movie was that every big fight scene occurred at night. I am sick and tired of dark and rainy fight scenes where you can barely make out what's happening.

Oh and Kong is mop the floor with Godzilla. Godzilla got his massive win in this movie and was literally made King of Monsters, now it's Kong's turn to get the shine and officially become King Kong.

I suspect you are right -- and that will make the movie crap for me. For me, that will be a Kaiju monster-sized example of plot induced stupidity.

I mean, it's so obvious Kong is gonna win. This is Hollywood we're talking about here.

Why is it obvious?
They're gonna be taking note of the general audience's expectation of Godzilla being victorious, and "subvert" it, even though it's pretty clear what the end result will be because Hollywood loves underdogs in their movies. And in pretty much every VS movie I've seen to date, they win against a far more powerful opponent.

I would actually find it interesting if they actually made Godzilla the underdog here and Kong this massive powerhouse, but I don't think that's the route they're taking. Plus, like it's been stated on here, him winning against Godzilla ultimately gives him the title of king. Thus, King Kong.
