Sci-Fi Godzilla Minus One

The more I hear about the VFX and what not for this film, the more it cements what I've already suspected regarding Hollywood budgets for well over a decade now. :tearsofjoy:

Regardless, kudos to those VFX artists because they did a phenomenal job. I still have yet to watch the film due to time constraints but I'm so extremely happy to see it garnering all the success it has.

It's weird how everyone is celebrating this only getting a VFX nomination as this great triumph while everyone is infuriated about the snubs for Barbie.

Frankly, if you're asking me, this movie got snubbed for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Foreign Language film as well.

Nonetheless, it's nice to see a foreign film that doesn't have the budget of a Marvel or DC film getting recognized for the crew's hard work at a fraction of the budget.

I think it faces a similar problem to animated movies and comicbook movies when it comes to securing nominations for those categories, the acadamy is still snobbish enough that half of them would die inside if they nominated a Kaiju movie for best picture, regardless of its quality.

Seems like toy-based movies like Barbie face the same problem ;)

I'd put that in the same category as Black Panther's nomination, they knew not nominating it would result in frankly disastrous backlash.

I guess they can accept this type of backlash similar to not nominating Dark Knight for Best Picture.

I am miffed for the BP and BD lack of noms, but it was announced a while ago that it missed the opportunity for BFL by like a month. Factor in that each country only gets one nominee. Though Im sure it would have won BFL if had been eligible.

I think it goes without saying that GMO was the surprise hit out of left field for most movie critics. Here's hoping if we get a Minus 2 or Toho's next Goji film it will be one more people and critics radar's.

Rules change and they should change. Now they allow for 10 films to get Best Picture nominations. Why is that? If that's allowed than every category should allow for 10 nominees and multiple films from the same country.

Because the Academy, for all of it being stuck up, does not like foreign language films. A domestically made film got shunted to foreign film because it was not in english. Still no idea how Crouching Tiger made it to Best Picture.

Same here. The success of GMO just further proves that Godzilla continues to be one of the few franchises that has A LOT of gas left in the tank. Can't wait to see what comes next!

This needed some film grain to really sell it, I think it looks too HD.

Parasite won Best Picture though. It shouldn't matter.

Doesn't seem to be the case this year. Look at how many nominations The Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall racked up. With Minus One, I think had Toho known how well it would be received there would have been more of a campaign but it unfortunately all happened a little too late.

GMO? It's a mutated lizard, not a mutated tomato.

BAdum tssssss
