Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

rofl at S.A.A.D redic comment.

Only a green eyed true blood fan boy would defend someone involved with that horrendous Green Lantern movie against the likes of Edgar Wright, who is a great filmmaker that can make medium something that is both interesting, entertaining, and innovative.

Cap overtook GL in one week.

I think it's clear GL isn't a success. Trying to say otherwise is simply not factual.

When it's impossible for a film to meet it's low predictions, it's a failure.

I still enjoyed it after I got over the fact it was not the space-epic they were saying it was going to be.

classic SAAD

Edgar Wright made Shaun of the Dead which was critically and commercially successful as well as Hot Fuzz which is another hit for him

Duncan Jones has made Moon which was critically acclaimed and Source Code which was critically acclaimed and commercially successful. And Jones has been pursued for both Man of Steel and The Wolverine

So yeah I would say they've made "jack ****" that many find to be worth watching.

Sure, they made cash at the box office and were liked...but that changes nothing if you ask me. You missed the part where I said "imo".

That is what you think pal, not everyone feels the same way about him.

Edgar and Duncan shouldn't talk, because imo, they haven't made jack **** that is actually worth watching. I'll give the two of them a break once they finally make what I think is a watchable movie. Something that actually looks and sounds entertaining.

Utterly insane.

Edgar Wright and Duncan Jones haven't made hack **** worth watching? No seriously... are you insane?

Shaun of the Dead and Moon are fantastic movies, this is fact.

No its not.

However SAAD, you cant deny that those 2 have the resume to be able to "talk". For instance you know besides Gladiator, IM not that big of a fan of Ridley Scott (yes that included Blade Runner and Alien). However, Scott is very well respected and I respect the fact that people love his work and how he's considered a classic director. So even if you dont like Duncan or Wright you have to respect the fact that theyve made critical and commercial successes, are generally well liked, and have been said to be part of the next generation of good filmmakers

It is fact. They are fantastic movies. Do you have to like the movies? No, course not. That's where opinion comes into it. But whether you like them or not, you have to respect them as great pieces of cinema. If you don't, you're a philistine who wouldn't know quality if it jumped up and bit you on the ass.

If WB has learned anything from this, its that they better not lie to the fans and public about their films..Those days are over, Twitter and facebook will find you out.

Many people do like Edgar Wright though. He isn't a polarizing filmmaker.

Many people? Lol, only the people who are familiar with him. Most of team average joe doesn't even know who the heck he is let alone what movies he was involved in.

Of course they are fantastic movies (coming from you), you saw them and were impressed by them. :whatever::oldrazz:

Oh I am sorry, but I don't respect filmmakers for creating movies that are not worth my time. I really don't care how much money his movies made or in what way his movies were received. Movies that are a critical success and that do good at the box office doesn't automatically make them good.

Yes I can, it's simple...I'm just not impressed by their up to date body of work. I'll start giving them credit when they at least manage to produce something that wins over my attention. All I have seen from them so far are movies that appear to be very boring looking. I'm not going to ever watch a movie when a trailer that is relevant to them is crappy. Why would I do that? Trailers are suppose to determine wether you're going to watch the rest of the movie. Would you watch the rest of some movie if there was a crappy trailer that was connected to it? The simple answer is no.

I don't care for you getting defensive over movies that I deem unwatchable. If you dig movies that look pretty lame to me then more power to you.

Now moving on, Green Lantern is sitting at $160,160,092 worldwide.

$160 million...worldwide? This movie is just limping along. Even I expected more at this point. Captain America is at $143 mil domestic and its a more recent release. Cap was great so at least its nice to see it doing well.

I just don't see how WB can be all that gung ho on GL's cinematic future right now. I don't see it coming anywhere close to $200 mil.

Shaun of the dead and Hot Fuzz are better, good movies, over Green Lantern.

Moon...laughable. That twist in the movie pisses me off now. Makes it so-so overall, worse than Green Lantern. Moon has fantastic acting by Sam Rockwell, great DOP, good visual directing, but worse script than Green Lantern. Yeah, I didn't like where script went...wanted it be like The Shining in space in a way.

Is GL even being tracked any longer?
This past weekends estimates, 8/5 - 8/7, don't show an estimate for GL while other films like Thor, XM:FC, Super 8 and Fast Five all have estimates and opened before GL. Surely it's in a some $1/bargain theaters at least? Did it get pulled already? That would be something.
