Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Um... Aren't all groups that like something comprised of people that know about it?

Yeah, but I thought that the dude was acting as if he (Edgar Wright) has a really big fan base. That's why I said that.

Shaun of the dead and Hot Fuzz are better, good movies, over Green Lantern.

Moon...laughable. That twist in the movie pisses me off now. Makes it so-so overall, worse than Green Lantern. Moon has fantastic acting by Sam Rockwell, great DOP, good visual directing, but worse script than Green Lantern. Yeah, I didn't like where script went...wanted it be like The Shining in space in a way.

Yeah, but only if they are someone's cup of tea. :oldrazz:

If WB has learned anything from this, its that they better not lie to the fans and public about their films..Those days are over, Twitter and facebook will find you out.

Agreed...if it's a disjointed, badly-scripted mess of a movie...then gosh-darnit, market it as a disjointed, badly-scripted mess of a movie!!!

I only said that I because I thought that he was acting as if what he said is the universal truth.

It's not a universal truth, but there is a consensus, an opinion held by many, making opinions as close to truths as possible.

Shaun of the Dead made over six times its production costs worldwide and scored 91% on rotten tomatoes and Hot Fuzz made over ten times its production costs and also has a 91% on rotten tomatoes. Green Lantern has 26% on rotten tomatoes and is yet to break even.

Worldwide update:
After languishing at the bottom of the charts for a while, Green Lantern rocketed back on to the scene with $14.2 million in 28 markets. It debuted in first place in Mexico with $4.3 million and also had a $3.1 million debut in Australia. It was scheduled to open in France this weekend, though Warner Bros. did not include those figures in their report. The movie has now made a paltry $61.6 million overseas, but at least it still has openings in Brazil and Japan to look forward to.

Lost out to Apes down here.

Nothing to brag about. Marvel's films made more in their opening weekends, and it's particularly damning that GL barely managed to edge out "Rise" despite the 3d boost.

Almost any movie at some point in its run will move from standard theaters to $1 or $2 dollar ones. Besides allowing it to run for those cheap tickets does nothing, this movie is already a failure on the domestic front.

Green Lantern went from 108 screens to 242 screens this weekend...

Is Warner Bros pulling another Superman Returns by opening Green Lantern in those $2 theaters or so to make up some of it's money???
The bargain theater release is standard. Nothing unusual there. It just signals the beginning of the end of it's run.
What Warners did with SR was to encourage those chains to keep it longer and "borrow" and fudge the numbers to push it over $200m.

What is WB going to do, fudge GL over $120m domestic.

That WW total is gonna top out at $220 million WW at best and that's being very generous. This movie is officially a super huge disappointment.

More like $230 to $260. The foreign box office take should be a little larger than the domestic. That seems to be the trend nowadays.

Foreign box office won't save this movie...

WB just about hopes to make its budget back at this stage.

Foreign receipts will not help this movie reach pass $220 million WW, its basically opened everywhere by now. Any addition to the total is gonna be very small, WB is certainly gonna take a huge loss with this even worse they're gonna be hesitant with other DC properties.
