I get it, the majority of people posting to this board would like anyone other than Jim Carrey playing Thanos. I think it is an interesting possibility and have provided numerous (hopefully) sound reasons for why I think the way I do. I don't see how presenting an unpopular opinion is considered "trolling".

Let's expand our minds here and really think about it instead of judging it immediately based on our opinions and not facts.

But facts don't come into it. It's entirely subjective. Opinion is all we have.

Here's a fact: the article suggests that they reached out to Carrey and Sandler at roughly the same time, so it's presumably the same role. Unless you think they would be looking at Adam Sandler for Thanos, they aren't looking at Jim Carrey for Thanos

Another fact: there's a certain baggage that instantly comes to mind when someone mentions Jim Carrey is starring in a movie, justified or unjustified. This movie is already Marvel's toughest sell, dressing Jim Carrey up as a big purple alien and saying he's the main villain of your movie is not doing it any favors in terms of gaining traction with potential audiences. Regardless of how you feel he'd perform in the role.

Regardless of how hard of a sell you think Carrey would be, that doesn't make it true. People like Carrey, and he's capable of channelling the manic evil of Thanos. It could be a success.. but like I mentioned earlier, Carrey voicing Rocket or even Groot is more probable than Thanos.

totally on board for Perlman for Thanos..he's got the voice, the love of comic book material, plays excellent villains (Drive being one his better ones in recent memory), tons of experience with extensive makeup and has a hit show currently with S.O.A. ...plus already played a Marvel character in the underrated Blade 2 and has a Joss Whedon connection with Alien Resurrection (written by Joss)..

Haha yeah the stuff he used to literally post every day in the Avengers section got him banned in only a few days over in the X-Men section. Go figure

Who even knows what type of role Thanos will have here. It could just be a minor speaking role and he will be in the background most of the time.

Doesn't really affect the casting. They'll cast their guy and have him sign a multi-pic deal.

I remember when he commented on my nomination of him for Dick of the Year and basically ended up giving a two-page audition for the award.

I really hope the Carrey/Sandler thing is just a lie that Marvel planted. I can maybe see Carrey as Rocky, but I'd much prefer an actor with a Cockney accent or Michael Rooker. Hell, that'd probably be cheaper.

As for Rooker not having enough "star power", he's a big character on the biggest show on cable TV. I think people have an idea of who he is, they'd atleast recognize the voice.
