Let's get back on topic guys.
Here's a new featurette

I'm really considering getting a comic book sleeve. I saw a guy a few weeks ago with like a comic panel effect. It was pretty rad. Or like a Marvel cosmic sleeve. Hmmm.

Love this quote by Gunn

It is a good quote, though I like them, the WB movies do take themselves too seriously, though I loved the movie, MOS could have done with a few more funny moments. But, at the same time, the MCU arent serious enough sometimes, I think both sides need to find a middle ground, though with GOTG I always expected a lot of comedy.

Heh, no kidding.. That's pretty much a straight shot across WB and Fox's bow. I heartily approve.

I wouldnt say Fox's CBM take themselves too seriously, DOFP had a lot of funny and light-hearted moments. Same with The Wolverine and First Class.

Winter Soldier had a great blend of serious and funny I thought.

Agreed, it got the balance pretty much perfect. The serious moments were serious as they should be, no jokes 60 seconds later and the when they did come the jokes were actually funny.

GOTG, while it has a lot of humour, sounds like it has a good few serious moments as well. More MCU movies like TWS and less like IM3 and TDW is what is needed from now on IMO.

Yea Winter Soldier balanced the tone perfectly. But then again, a Cap film should be more serious than an Iron Man film. It all depends on the character.

Thor though... i don't think Marvel really knows what the **** they are doing with him. And it's a shame because for me, he is the Avenger with the most cinematic potential. But instead he's bogged down on Earth and his films are basically rom/coms. They need to let the character loose.

Personally, I loved the tone of IM3. That movie just worked so well for me. I felt like it knew what it wanted to be and did it amazingly.
However, Thor 2 seemed to have a bit too much comedy. Or the placing of said comedy was wrong, or something like that. The finale of Thor 2 had the potential to be very, very epic. But I think some of the choices made for that battle just didn't fit.
I'm a huge fan of comedy in my action films. If a film can get me to laugh, and still have me totally invested and on the edge of my seat, then I have a great time.

Marvel doesn't seem to realize the potential Thor movies have. Until they get him away from Jane and into the other realms, they never will.

GOTG is a straight up action comedy. I'm serious, this is the first CBM to bring me tears from laughter.

In regards to what? Humour because in GOTG there's so much numour even during the intense moments.:oldrazz: The movie was very self aware.

The first Thor movie needed that humor to help us relate to all the new fantasy stuff. I didn't mind it in that movie one bit.
But in the second, we were already used to all the Asgard stuff and it wasn't necessary to kind of break the ice with humor.

I think all the Marvel movies have a great sense of humour, they just need to take it down a notch when the villains need to be villainous.

I love Iron Man 3. It's a Shane Black movie through and through. And comedy fits the Tony Stark character. I see people moan that he was still snarky even though he had PTSD.

Well, not everyone with trauma is Bruce Wayne. Some people act like snarky ********s as a defense mechanism. I have personal experience with this.

Pretty much. Thor should have been the first character to sail out into the cosmos and strange imaginative worlds.

It was ok having the first film on Earth. But once the BiFrost was destroyed they should have taken that opportunity to have stories not on planet Earth. Have Thor and the Warriors Three (and Sif) be the focus of the sequel. Make Odin's use of dark power in Avengers have consequence.

As it is, what happened in the first Thor and Odin's use of his own power to send Thor to Earth has literally zero consequences.

I agree. I want the villains to be downright scary. Ultron and Thanos sound like they will fix this problem very nicely.
Loki gets a pass though. He's a trickster, and they got him perfectly right in the films. Poor Malekith barely got any development. Kurse seemed like a bigger threat than Malekith did. Heck, Thor's mom made quick work of him.

Was that ever the case though (apart from GOTG and Thor 2)? When the hero vs villain battle is happening, it's serious. The humour is usually situational or comes from a different place altogether.

The first encounter with Whiplash was really intense, and then started to get silly once Happy was ramming him with his car. I loved that part though. It really cut the tension and I thought it was hilarious

The characters may stop joking around when they actually face the villain, or something bad happens, but that isn't the same as being serious. The audience needs to actually go "oh ****". The mood in the theatre should drop like a brick.

I thought Killian was a big enough threat. He was going through those armours like butter. And i liked his plot. It's basically saying "What if the US created a terrorist threat like Osama Bin Laden... to fuel spending on counter terrorism"

Yea, there hasn't really been many scenes like that from the MCU villains to be fair. Nothing approaching Joker or even when Bane broke Batmans back.

I do remember the "BOX OF SCRAPS!!!" scene with Bridges stunning people into silence though.

Not everything has to be serious all the time. The battle of New York was not serious but it was great. I have a feeling you're going to have a problem with GOTG. Good luck.

I'm thinking Ultron will have a moment like this. Sounds like it at least from that trailer description.

Yea i trust Ultron will. Whedon does do good villains. The Operative from Serenity was fantastic.

The thing is though, with Nolan's Batman films, i find myself actually looking forward to seeing the villains more than i do Batman. At least with Marvels films they make their heroes awesome.

Although yes, i'd like to see an actual scary Marvel villain. Although i thought the Winter Soldier had an immense screen presence. Especially that chase scene and when he was stalking Widow through the street.
