Just a little of this time was given over to talk of what a second Guardians film might well entail. As all of the trades are rushing to publish variants on “James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2” tonight, I’ll share his comments on the prospective sequel now, and we’ll come back to the bigger, more in-depth discussion of the first film after the weekend. At first, I asked what remains of Nicole Perlman‘s script in the finished film. Many of those trade stories have said something like “It’s not clear if co-writer Nicole Perlman will return.” Well, it’s pretty darn clear to me that she’s not likely to be involved at all, not now there’s a writer-director with plenty of ideas sitting in the driving sear.

I definitely think Mantis, Cosmo and Warlock.

As for the villains, I don't know any of the Guardians villains apart from Ronan, Kree, Thanos and the Badoom, but Marvel don't own the Badoom.

Does anyone have a list of the Guardians villains?

Forgot about Quasar, she (and Moondragon) were great in the DnA run. Speaking of which, if they go that route, I'd love Marvel to have some balls and keep them as a couple in it.

The could rework Korvac I suppose (was originally a foe for the future team).

They wouldn't have the rights for Annihilus (him and he Negative Zone would be with the FF) but they could rename all that for an Annihilation storyline, and maybe do the same again for the Phalanx (they are likely with the X-Men) perhaps with Ultron for a Conquest follow up later on.

I guess they may have worked out Zoe's schedule for her to show up in GOTG 2

Avatar 2 is an urban myth that will never happen.

Ultron should be the sequel villain.

I honestly don't know what villain they could use for Guardians 2.

Ronan was a good choice for this one because of the Kree link, but Thanos is saved for Avengers 3 and they don't have the rights to some other characters.

I think we'll get a scene and the teaser. Just imagine the word of mouth this movie will get when people hear its good, AND there's an avengers 2 trailer at the end.

That's what I was saying. It's that extra bit of marketing sizzle and rightfully so considering they have to deal with TMNT the very next weekend. Not that the Turtles will light the world on fire, but if I were Marvel's marketing team I'd rather be safe than sorry.

The timing just seems too eerily similar to how we got the Avengers sizzle reel with CA:TFA.

Thankfully it doesn't, especially with people like Whedon & Gunn behind the scenes, always embracing that stuff. Plus Feige would be down for it, coming out looking like a progressive studio head hero. It's the other execs we're always hearing about being all lame that'd be the only roadblocks methinks.

This movie is going to open so many doors. But they must continue to keep bringing on directors who are good with character moments. It helps alleviate the inherent silliness.
