...Dude let's be honest, as of now, the general audience don't even know about this movie yet. They simply aren't fans cause this movie isn't on their radar, I find your reaction to my previous post strange. Your also acting as if they are use to a serious superhero movie with an alien raccoon that plays the part of a heroic team member.

Define "serious."
This movie isn't likely to be some haw-haw parody, but it's also highly unlikely that it's going to be played straight-faced. The DnA comic series is pretty much comedic; the director is pretty much comedic; the subject is pretty much comedic. Don't expect a grimdark Nolan approach to this film; you will be disappointed, mi amigo.

I'm not expecting a grim dark movie (whatever the frick that means). I don't mind the movie being comedic as long as there isn't too much of it and as long as it doesn't kill serious moments. My definition of serious matches up with what it usually means. What I am expecting is for the movie to basically be in straight face mode. I hope I am right.

Leaving out Rocket Raccoon would be a mistake. He would be something that stands out in people's minds, and also would be of more appeal to kids than the others. He also probably has the greatest marketability out of the cast. Without him, it would be like having Star Wars without R2D2 and C3PO.

I agree about the leaving him out bit, he is one of the main reasons I am interested in the movie.

when yoda first used his lightsaber in attack of the clones, people cheered in the theatre i was in. it catches you off guard how awesome he was, rocket could do the same. sure he is not known like yoda is, but yoda was hyped up as being this awesome lightsaber master, and it turned out he was. rocket has a chance to be awesome, it all falls to how he is portrayed.

I fear that from a character stand point that the inclusion of rocket raccoon will be a major source of problem because of the general audience once posters and trailers are released. What if it the movie leaves a sour taste in the mouth of many of them because of him?

I dunno what the hell you're talking about dude. I swear I come on here each day and read some laughable posts.

please dont mention those awful movies in here. Rocket wont be jumping around like a frog on super-crack or any similar nonsense.

all indications are that they're going for as naturalistic as possible with Rocket. smart move. im not sure how they're gonna pull it off. maybe after they cast the actor.

well it seems you missed the point completely. i'll explain it simply. yoda worked, rocket can work.

Please, mention the prequel trilogy as much as possible. I love to see people get fired up over movies that made billions at the box office and people sharing their hatred for it as if it was a universal truth that they're super hated.

That was one weird sentence, I know. But you get the point.

Oh yeah, Yoda worked surprisingly well. Given the success of the Hulk and how well he was received last year, Marvel definitely is getting the benefit of the doubt for Rocket.

I was there on opening night. Place went CRAZY

he really didn't. and he was an alien, not a real life terrestial animal. and ILM's basis for the character was a hand puppet. and he had already been in 3 other movies. i can probably think of a few other reasons its a bad analogy but im busy watching the celtics lose to NY. google it.

on-topic.

Rocket Raccoon is also an alien, unless you think there are talking raccoons running around on 2 feet on Earth.

Same thing with Groot, who's a walking and talking tree alien. If they accept that, I think they do the same for RR.

i guess i could have said if you can make a hand puppet work in empire, why not rocket. but since i missed empire in theatres since i wasn't born yet. i would have loved to see the reaction to yoda picking the tie-fighter up out of the swamp. seeing the special edition with an audience wasn't the same since everyone knew the movies already. so i can only speak to a brand new moment i was a witness to in theatres. yoda using his lightsaber was the big moment in the theatre i was in.

just cause i don't like the prequels like the originals doesn't mean i can't find something to take away from them that is enjoyable. like mcgregor as obi-wan or a darth maul.

yoda jumping around is not the point. the point is yoda physically interacting with a real life character in a fight scene. like rocket who will have to interact with real life and cg characters in fight scenes. it can absolutely work. it still comes down to execution.

i'm gonna leave it at that. i mean it's not like anyone ever changed their mind from a random persons post. so this is pointless, but somewhat entertaining on a long car ride from work.

Yoda's probably not nearly as good a comparison as Dobby, Gollum, Hulk, or Caesar. Those characters probably have more in common with Rocket in terms of methods used to bring him to the big screen and the quality of the completed illusion. While Yoda did work, he seems almost second tier to those characters in terms of effectiveness.

As for general audiences, I feel like I can speak for them, since I've never even heard of GotG until comic con last year. Marvel's done a phenomenal job of slowly folding in more fantastical elements to the MCU, to the point that I think some on this forum are unnecessarily worried how a talking, fighting space raccoon will be received. As long as Marvel handles him with the same level of care and dignity as their other characters, he'll come across fine.

I guess I must have missed all those people rolling round in the aisles of the cinema at the sight of talking animals in the Chronicles of Narnia. Straight up slapstick? Hardly.

It worked and people bought into it, Why? because the approach and tone was just right.

Bingo

although i enjoyed howard the duck at the time I didnt see people going crazy over him...

again the tone...

re-do the movie using CGI and i don't think people would enjoy him any more but change the tone and maybe it would be better received

Chris Pratt spotted today in LA....James Gunn wasn't kidding about him getting into shape.

Chris #3 is looking great. He's pared down the pudge to an impressive degree.

I just re-started watching Park and Rec, I forgot how hilarious his character is in the early episodes. (well, all the episodes haha)

I remember someone asked earlier, but right on cue, Marvel is putting out trades of the original Guardians stuff.

There's 2 so far Guardians of the Galaxy: Tomorrow's Avengers - Volume 1 and 2.

its unfortunate that they haven't announced volume 3 yet which would be Jim Valentino's run.

I find it interesting that in the latest solicits however they have a new title named Guardians of the galaxy tomorrow's avengers (which is a comic not the TPBs your talking about)...the cover of that though is the present day guardians...i hope thats a decoy or variant cover and its actually the original guardians
