And so my problem with Mondo posters is summarized. Artists are hired to do fantastic, officially licensed work and yet they are exclusively for collectors walls rather than for theaters.

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

I know studios want the actors in full view, but I'm getting tired of these Photoshop hack jobs.

If studios want the actors on the poster why don't they contract them so they have to pose for the poster shots?

Because money and low standards. Posters aren't as important as they once were.

Hollywood Reporter states that Universal refused to pay a cent for this film once Guillermo del Toro delivered an R rating. They're also refusing to pay for Pacific Rim 2 which has the film likely headed toward cancellation.

Christ, man. That's what happens.

Seriously though this movie looks amazing. So nice to see a horror film with some ****ing color and legitimate scares.

If this gets hacked to a PG-13 Hell will freeze over before I watch it.

Universal can S my D if they screw this one over.

GDT made it abundantly clear since before pre-production that this would be an R rated gothic love story. Universal should have come to terms with the rating long ago. Pricks probably always planned to make him cut it down to a PG-13. :cmad:

The worst part is Universal is running a haunted attraction for this at Horror Nights this year. So they're trying to screw it and promoting it at one of their biggest draws of the year.,

I'm not a big horror guy, but I like GDT so I'll be checking this out (that is, if the studio execs let him fully realize his vision).

Surely the studio and GDT had agreed on a rating before the film was green lit.

GDT talked a long time ago about how he actually waved a large part of his own pay as producer, writer and director in order to be able to have the R rating. I guess not getting paid is what allowed Legendary to afford financing it solo.

Del Toro also fronted the bill for several parts of the set design including a large portrait he had commissioned.

Thanks for sharing redhawk. BTW any of you guys see Del Toro's Twitter? He just joined and he's been posting daily gothic horror recommendations. Mostly books, some movies and some art.

Yeah, it's pretty great.

He seemed pretty active on his site, but for some reason it doesn't have many members.
