So can someone explain the [blackout]baby[/blackout] to me?

[blackout]It was actually Lucille's baby but one of Thomas' wives said they'd take care of it?[/blackout] Or something?

Kinda confused me and my girlfriend.

It was Lucille and Thomas' baby and it was born "wrong" due to its parents being brother and sister. Lucille said it should have been killed at birth, but she wanted it so they spared it. One of the women Thomas married said she could take care of it and help it. Unless I missed something, it's my understanding that it died and after it died Lucille killed the woman.

Box office results just came in; it flopped. As someone who's a fan of GDT (And has personally met him once at NYCC a few years back), I just want to make something VERY clear: just because something's a financial flop doesn't mean it's the same thing as "It's a bad movie". Yes, often those two bits go hand and hand, but some times a good movie might not do that well financially for certain reasons, usually because there's other movies out that same opening weekend that other people want to see. In Crimson Peak's case, it was going up against not only Goosebumps (which came in #1 this week) and Steve Jobs, but also previous weeks' holdovers like The Martian and The Walk. This stuff happens. At least it wasn't like with Pacific Rim where it lost to Grown Ups 2 (completely inexcusable TBH)!

And it's not like GDT's the only director who's had instances like this. Edgar Wright's the same way; his movies are critically praised and yet they almost NEVER do that well financially here in the US! So just bear all this in mind next time your online and see people calling Crimson Peak a flop.

I thought GdT made a really bad career decision when he turned down Star Wars. It's interesting that he and Brad Bird, who both turned down SW, ended up directing flops instead.

GDT makes nothing but questionable career decisions but it's his career so all I can do is sit back and talk about it if the topic interests me.

Money means more than ambition and creativity in the business world, that's the long and short of it. You can make something good, but if people don't pay to partake in it, you won't get future chances unless you finance your own.

They're both geeks to an extent and know how the fanbase is, probably.

Del Toro isn't right for Star Wars but Brad Bird definitely should have done one over Tomorrowland.

Alas, this appears to be it for Del Toro and major studio films. I really hope for his sake, he goes to Spain for a string of films.

Honestly, getting away from Hollywood might be the best thing for him.

Go back to producing smaller budget projects.

I still hope he eventualy gets to make Frankenstein, he always said it was the biggest dream project of his. Anyway, even with these failures when it comes to his big studio films, i'm glad he was able to do what he wanted, hopefuly the experience has only helped him as a filmmaker.

both geek royalty
wonder who loses more points after this year, I assume the latter considering how his film was received by everyone.

About your blacked out bit, none of the ghosts at Crimson Peak are Edith's mom.

True, but what I meant about the ghost scenes was that I anticipated Edith's mom, who had pretty much zero scare factor after her first scene. Even the ghosts at Crimson Peak weren't really all that scary once it was established that [blackout]they were no more than metaphors for the story[/blackout].

Well, guess I shouldn't be surprised that Goosebumps took the #1 spot since it was more kid-friendly; Crimson Peak definitely wasn't. Actually reminds me of one of Chastain's lines at the end that had the most creepy implication ever:

Edith: "You're not his sister, you're his wife!" (or something like that)
Lucille: "Oh I am!"

Definitely Guillermo. This is his second flop in a row. Pacific Rim was a disaster in North America.

There's no way Pacific Rim 2 is getting made after this.

Depends. They've spent too much on it, for them not to do it. Wouldn't surprise me if he just "produces" and one the directors he did that for previously direct the film.

China's starting to make blockbusters now, and they loved Pacific Rim, so maybe his career could go there :o
