...and they'll all have problems and call Dr. Phil....

....or Jerry Springer. That would be classic....

Jerry: So Gwen, whose baby is it?
Gwen: It's Peter's!
Peter: IT'S NOT TRUE!
MJ: You dirty son of a b****! (MJ starts slapping Peter)
Peter: (webs up MJ)
Harry: (listens to emo music on his iPod)
Eddie: (looks devilishly at Peter with a voodoo doll in his hand)
Jerry: We'll be back after these advertisements from law offices in your station's affliate's town.
LMAO!

They really have to separate MJ's "girl next door" character from Gwen's "girl next door" image in this movie. And I do NOT want to see any of the Ultimate stuff in there. I love the series but Gwen's character was wronged on so many levels...

Gwen's death in USM is the most ******ed thing in that series so far (even more so than the Green "Hulk" Goblin). What a waste!

Definately. And the whole punk-girl thing and pullin' out knives thing? Damn! What was that? But again, with MJ, in USM and the movies being so toned down (from the original's, in control, sassy girl) it would've been and will be hard to create a gap between Gwen's sweetness and whatever you'd call MJ's demeanor. Right now, only USM came close to deserving the "Jackpot" line (I actually liked that issue).

To be honest with you, I'm more intrigued to see what Gwen's role will be, than Topher's character. I know that sounds weird, but I do.

No, I'm with you on that. At least we know exactly who'll she'll play and can worry the options from that. Topher's role is a headache right now.

But Gwen's character is so "precious" Peter's life, our (fan's) live's, and the Spidey-Universe. I think we all have something of a "special interest" in Gwen as Spidey-fans and wonder/worry what Rami will do with her.

It is odd, because I remember on the Spidey 1 DVD, Joe Quesada talked about why MJ was used instead of Gwen (something about not wanting to have convulted love interests, and basically just meshing qualities of the two from ASM), but now they ARE bringing in Gwen? Makes you wonder what they are planning to do. Will she be the Gwen from ASM? I doubt it. But we'll see....

I think I've found something to do instead of writing that paper due tomorrow... I don't remember much of the SM1's special edition disk...

Definitely check it out.

Gwen’s appearance is just another fact, which proves Sam, Avi and Co making no actual plans for future SM scripts. Ziskin even acknowledged that in one of the 2nd disk SM DVD documentaries, naming it as a ‘luxury’ available only to movies such as the Lord of the Rings. Absurd.
But since it’s better late then never…
I like the idea of Gwen running after Peter and Eddie (or who ever Topher's playing) running after Gwen. That way Peter will be able to maintain his correct saint moral role. But I don't like the 'MJ getting jealous' part in that plan. I’m afraid of her whining, crying, screaming and throwing stuff at Peter. That would diminish her character even further in my opinion.
But perhaps, to justify it, Peter would actually know whoever Topher is and, doing his moral hero thing, would try to save Gwen from him, as she decides to get with him, right after Peter rejects her.

And, since you people mentioned USM in this whole thing, I feel the urge to give my two cents - I actually enjoyed the first three volumes. From there the mediocre storylines would’ve probably been actually a little bearable, if only the dialog wouldn’t sound like it was written by a chimpanzee.

The addition of Gwen's character, especially coupled with reports that Kirsten does NOT want to come back as MJ after SM3, shows that the powers that be are thiniking about the future of this franchise.

And I expect that Peter will simply be a friend to Gwen at first, trying to help her with an abusive Brock (hopefully physically as well as mentally, but that's a stretch I know). And I expect Gwen will see more than friendship potential in one Peter Parker.

AGAIN... kinda like how comic ASM MJ was at the first.

Good point. Here's hoping they throw Dunst off the bridge!

Yep. But not because I hate MJ. I don't. Not even this "clone of a character" that we have in the movie verse. Because it (Death of Gwen Stacy or MJ in this case) is one of ASM's most moving story arcs and deserves to be told on the big screen. Goblin Legacy and all.

Then they should have done it when they had the F$%^& chance to do it right!! :(

Yeah, they should not have gone with the bridge story so early especially since Gwen is going to be in the next one.

*stamps feet* NO THEY DON'T!! *Runs off crying like a little girl*

LOL. But seriously, why do they NOT have the chance IYO?

MJ, is the true love, the only girl Peter thinks at this point he will ever love... just like Gwen was in the comics at the time.

The Goblin Legacy is 1) knowing Peter's secret 2) killing the only girl he'll ever love. Albeit Norman vs. Harry, but IMO, I like the aspect of Brother vs. Brother, and it being Harry that fullfills the Goblin's Legacy (even though as an actor Dafoe RULES).

The only question, does Sam & Co have the balls to give us that "wow" movie moment??????

ASM 121-122 blew my mind. I think it was the first and only time I have ever cried over a comic. I was so moved by the scene where cop lets him go, and I love the seen where he yells at MJ and she walks to the door, but turns around and comforts him.

Yep. It's called depth, and with it comes greatness.

Ok let's see if I can write my thoughts somewhat coherently :)

1/ That aint Gwen Stacy. Sure I know the argument, it's an adaption, it doesn't have to follow the source material...blah blah blah...and I agree with that argument. However Gwen's placement in this flick is more than just taking liberties with the source material.....

...with respect to the Spidey Mythos and history, Gwen Stacy has existed (I don't count clones or DIRTY Old Gobby retcons) for a relatively minute time period as opposed to MJ, Aunt May etc.....but yet in my opinion her existence is as big a part of the Spidey mythos as maybe even Uncle Ben himself.....and why is that?....because she was Pete's first love and because Pete's secret identity eventually cost Gwen her life...

...due to the placement of Gwen in the movie, that which made Gwen the iconic character in the Spidey mythos cannot exist...so what the hell's the point in putting her in?........It's Doc Ock with no tentacles!

2/ It's already been done......ASM 121-122 has been done....sure they changed it from Gwen to MJ and had her survive....but it's been done!

3/ If the sole purpose of Gwen's appearance in the movie is to get rid of Dunst then why not just re-cast her?

To me, and maybe it's just me, bringing in Gwen Stacy at this point in the game is in the words of Pat Benatar..."Little too little and a Little too late!"

As for your point about Brother vs Brother...I agree....and if you wanted to go that route "Kill MJ" why did we need Gwen?....since the movie would be soooo far removed from the source material (Killing MJ) why not simply have Pete become interested in Betty Brant?....

......If they needed a blonde plot device they should have picked Debra Whitman....putting Gwen Stacy in the fold just for the sake of saying "yup she was there" is an insult to the character

....as always...JMO :O

LMAO... wow.. I struck a nerve I see. :D

No it's not... Gwen that is... it's MJ... point in case.

Nope. She survived. Without that finality, they have NOT told that story arc, and have not even come close IMO.

Because it's not an issue of simply not wanting to recast, IF you believe that the Gwen Stacy death story arc is one of (if not the) greatest story arcs in Spider-Man history. It's about the death of the only girl he (Peter) has ever loved. It's about the one he loves the dearest paying the ultimate price for his great responsibility. It's about the fact that despite all his powers, he could not save her. It's about the Goblin Legacy, and that is MORE than simply the enemy being a friend's father, or the friend himself. It's about the guilt that comes with the fact that the one you loved more than ANY OTHER in life... paid the ultimate price. It's about shaping who and what Spider-Man is.... IT IS... the most defining story arc in Spider-Man history (IMO). BAR NONE... including Uncle Ben's death even (burn me at the stake if you must. ;) :D )
