Harvey Dent/Two-Face Thread

Penny Dreadful was the start of it. He's really good in that.

And who can forget Boy Sweat Dave?

Can anyone point me to some scenes where he flexes his rage?
This is the reason why I don’t like JDW or Trevante for this. They both fit John Stewart much more.

I honestly don’t really like McConaughey for this either. He looks a lot older than Pattinson and I’d like for them to be contemporaries. I don’t like Harvey having a southern accent either.

Though he’s a little too old for it, Mahershala Ali would have crushed it. Lately I’ve been thinking Sterling K. Brown or Christopher Abbott. They have both proven to me that they have the range for it.

It seems obvious that Two-Face should factor into the second movie. I’d love to see him in a Robin centric story. Something that doesn’t get talked about enough is Two-Face’s frequent pairing with Robin. It’s a common trend for Two-Face to be involved with Robin’s origin in some way. Dick Grayson’s parents were murdered by Two-Face in Batman Forever, Jason Todd and Tim Drake’s fathers both worked for Two-Face in the comics and The New Batman Adventures respectively.

I never thought Hartnett was a bad actor at all. Just dumb projects. But I guess he’s doing well on tv. I was looking at his movies recently and they’re all silly b movies.

@The Lazarus Pit you and me both for Abbott. He’ll be my number one until he’s cast.

I can't see Abbott at all tbh. And honestly I do think it's pretty safe to assume Harvey will be a bit older if not clearly older than Bruce, otherwise he'd be the DA in this movie. There's no chance Reeves just redoes TDK for a sequel, I really think Harvey has already been DA. And McConaughey doesn't have to do a southern accent!

May I ask why you don’t think Abbott fits Harvey?

I think we might have to let go of the McConaughey rumour. It’s not very likely.

Maybe it's superficial but he just seems too visually likeable and young to me lol. I get that Harvey has to be charismatic but I like the idea of him being bit visually rugged and experienced. Although I'm sure the makeup department could transform anybody. I think Harvey being the same age as Bruce just isn't as interesting considering we roughly got it in TDK. Even if it's not McConaughey I just want something that is totally unlike what we got in TDK and him being older would help that

So, it's not like I *don't* want Abbott I would just prefer some others before him if that makes sense. Not being able to "see" an actor as a character can be a good thing because it can be surprising and interesting and I'm sure he'd be good, I just think a different age group would be more interesting to me

I see. I’m good with it because with the exception of MM i don’t really like the idea of Dent being visibly older than Bruce. The mentor angle has potential to be different but right now I don’t really want Bruce to have a mentor other than his immediate family (Thomas Wayne mainly).

As for Abbott, he’s Pattinson’s age I think and they both look the same age. I prefer “Bruce and Harvey grew up together”. That would be different from TDK.

Also, I think his likeability will do wonders for Harvey Dent. The character needs an actor like that, instead of a Bill Sarsgaard or Jeremy Strong type. But I suggest watching some of Christopher’s more recent roles where he plays unlikeable very well. That’s why he’s my pick because he can do both, which is what’s needed.

I like the idea of Harvey being a Gotham native, and having grown up with Bruce.

Does anyone else remember Ethan Bennett/Clayface from The Batman? What an incredible character arc. He was essentially their stand in for Harvey. I’d like to see something along those lines for this version of Two-Face. And no love triangle bs this time.

All good points, I can see that all happening. no matter what they do I'm sure it'll be great. Maybe Harvey is the same age as Bruce and a childhood friend but still had the accident prior to this movie? I like the idea he's already deformed a lot - I think there's tons you can do with that, it would play into Bruce's "experiment" (Reeves' words) on crime struggling. it's mostly just the idea of watching Harvey as DA fall again I'd rather avoid tbh

Is Clayne Crawford still blacklisted?

He's supposed to be very good in his new film The Killing of Two Lovers.

I like him a lot as an actor. I think he'd pull off Dent's volatility really well.

I hadn't even thought about him for Harvey but he would be good.

Three words:

Oliver. Jackson. Cohen.

So I’ve been trying to logically break this down while adding my own ‘wants’.

Due to Pattinson’s age (versus Bale who was younger, which made it easier to set the story only months after the previous film) I believe The Batman sequel needs to be set a few years after the first. Not 10 months later or whatever. Bale was 33 on set for TDK and still playing a 30 year old Bats (just like the third act of Begins). He was 37 playing a 38 year old Bruce in TDKR. Pattinson on the other hand will be 38 shooting a sequel, so they should try to make Bruce Wayne early 30’s at least. His days of believably playing the 20 something character are numbered..

Harvey Dent: in a few years, what does that mean for Dent’s introduction? Gil Colson is dead. If Harv is mentioned or not, it’s likely he’s strutting into the DA spot soon right? It’s year two after all. Can’t be too far away..

So do we want a opening montage that shows Harvey’s rise and fall? In office, befriending Bruce, trying to take down Oz, courtroom scene with Maroni, disfigured & sent to recovery?? That sounds good to me! Matt Reeves is no stranger to opening credits that serve as a montage via news footage getting us up to speed. This way you have a full movie with Two-Face. OR do we want him still be in office for the last three years and the film opens with a courtroom scene?? I get the feeling you peeps will vote for the former..

Winter Gotham: just a hunch/desire but I really want the sequel to be set in December. Reeves’ even numbered films are winter set stories so this would fall in line once again. We all want a gothic serious Batman movie set around Christmas don’t we?? Dent has never appeared in a winter Bat flick. Neither has the Joker. And if we’re bringing Harvey back on screen, let’s avoid anything that could point fans to TDK (including his courtroom intro, love triangles, Joker as a main villain right next to Harvey, summer set middle of the trilogy, transformation halfway through the film, dropping dead in the third act).

I want Mel Gibson to play Harvey Dent! He was on the shortlist for several batman films!

Jonathan Majors? I think he has that Denzel Washington vibe that can make hime likeable and crazy

A part of me wants it to be a completely unassuming comedy actor who actually knows how to be terrifying, to be honest. Have Harvey be loveable, in the way that a comedic actor would know how. Then when that switch is turned on, the fact that it's that comedy actor would add so much. Albert Brooks did something similar in Drive, despite being a comedian actor by trade and by God did it work. I'd love to see a similar actor take this on.
