Has marvel screwed itself up?

Wait, did someone say the X-Men titles are beyond repair? Really? I mean, Marvel has me about 2 seconds away from buying the Carey X-Men trade. I already buy Astonishing which aside from it being late is a a good comic, mostly. X-Factor is the best title Marvel publishes, don't give me no other crap it is. Uncanny seems to be rolling under Brubaker even with what seemed to be a somewhat disappointing Vulcan arc. And all I hear about New X-Men is how good it is, well that and how they kill off like 30 mutants per issue. And now with Endangered Species, it seems some cohesiveness is coming back to the X-Men titles where in the past it's been one of it's biggest faults.

Brubaker's current Uncanny arc is fairly interesting. It sees the X-Men getting back to some of the '80s and '90s elements I like, namely the Morlocks, Leech, and weird mutant prophecies. I'm even warming to Caliban as the Uncanny crew's newest member.

I prefer to read the What If's etc more than 616 and alternative universes, I still keep in touch with 616, but through other people, not much reading myself to be honest.

Anniahlation looks good though, but not had time or anything to buy/read it. And I'm so out of touch with some things, it might not make too much sense I fear...:(

Annihilation is great and you don't really need to have read anything beforehand to understand it. The Prologue explains where most of the major players are at the beginning of Annihilation, and then the little Nova Files in the back of most of the issues fills in a lot of the details on how they got there.
How many mutants are left after HOM?
Around 200. There were officially 198 right after HoM, but Iceman regained his powers almost immediately and others have regained powers, lost powers, died, etc. since then. No exact canon number exists, as far as I know, but it's probably still somewhere around 200.

All of which have been extremely exciting and entertaining, so....no.

Your kidding.I dont understand why some people can actually like what Marvel is doing, events for the past few years..with no end in sight?

What ever happened to regular comics? There would be no need for recons,or Skrulls as excuses for bad writing..if there was no bad writing.

Marvel still publishes some comics that aren't necessarily tied to events. But, frankly, the fact that many of Marvel's comics are event-driven doesn't really bother me. I tend to buy a big enough chunk of Marvel's catalog anyway. I can understand how it might be a problem for others, but a few more tie-in issues don't really faze me.

Seriously dude.

now that weve identified the problem, what can marvel do to reverse it?

I know. And for the life of me, i cant inderstand why anyone, especially an X fan, would want to revert back to there being millions of mutants on the planet.

The entire concept, as envisioned by Stan & Jack, was a small populance of opressed minorities struggling for their place in the world. If there are tens of millions of them on earth, that basic concept goes out the window. Im all FOR status quo expierimentation (Totem Spider-Man, round 1 for example), so long as the original vision remains in effect. M-day was a blessing, imo.

Well, we're even then, because i don't understand why some people can NOT like what Marvel is doing. :yay:

Marvel has some hassles and missteps, but CW, execution aside, was a better event than HOM was, and WWH is shaping to be better than that. Unmaskings aside, the fertile ground left after CW has been better than it was before. The X-Line is messed beyond all repair so long as M-Day remains in play, Spidey Unmasked is a dead-end story point that will be reversed somewhat as Murdock's was recently. And it would be nice if after a year, Marvel could narrow down what the SHRA specifically entails and get it into a memo for their writers. But then you have ANNIHILATION, and massive investment of talent into the core MU universe after 15 years of letting it rot in favor of the X-Men.

Marvel has problems to fix, but I wouldn't say they're completely screwed up now. DC, on the other hand, is twisted in knots (IMO).

The X-Line is better than ever. Astonishing X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, New X-Men, Cable & Deadpool, Wolverine. Sure M-Day was a mistake but damn, I've never had this much enjoyment reading so many X-books.

I like events, but you do have a point. The Skrulls thing is almost as stupid as Emoboy-Prime's diamond wall shattering retcon punches.

There's a difference between the minority populace that Jack and Stan created and under 200 people. That's not even 1% of the world. Heck, that's not even 1% of a decent sized town. M-Day could've been "good", but the numbers to which mutants have been reduced is ridiculous.

Then again, I didn't so much mind the changes by Morrison. Stan and Jack was over 40 years ago folks. We all praise Claremont for his experimenting and innovation when it comes to the X-Men, even though it pretty much broke 90% of the rules as they were established by Lee and Kirby. I didn't much care for Morrison's stories, but his direction was fresh, new and exciting.

Why do you insist on mentioning that crapfest?:csad:

You know, I still think there was some misunderstanding here. I always thought the 198 were the mutants on the Xavier grounds, not the actual number. Then someone came along, grabbed that number as representative of the actual number of mutants in the whole world.
