Hawaii Five-O - Part 2

The secondary characters like Duke, Noelani and Kamekona will likely be regulars on Magnum now.

Yes, NCIS has lasted a long time, but it will go as long as Mark Harmon wants it to go. I do think that we are closer to the end of NCIS though. It will depend on how long Mark wants to continue.

I don't think Duke was but the other credited Asian non 5-0 members were also credited on Magnum and might have made more Magnum than 5-0 appearances this half season

Seems they sort of went into this season hoping that O'Loughlin would sign on for another year or two but knowing that his health was beginning to completely fail his ability to continue on. The potential introduction of Lance Gross' character was likely going to lead him becoming Danny's new partner had they decided to continue on without Alex. Caan was starting to miss more than a couple episodes a year so I doubt he would have signed a new contract without O'Loughlin. Best for this show to go out with both the original leads still on the show than navigate its future without them.

And just like that, almost in response to earlier posts, H50 is ending.

Is the 5-0 task force going to be disbanded or will they continue their unseen adventures? But if they do still exist, then won't Magnum be making reference to them?

The task force will likely continue off-screen and continue being referenced should Magnum come back for S3, similar to how the original Magnum would make H50 references throughout its run. I imagine that we'll be seeing characters like Duke, Kamekona, and Noelani recur on Magnum and they could have some H50 team members guest star every so often.

If only they had 2 other well liked characters who had been there since the beginning...

I doubt (even had they kept DDK and Park for its entire run) that the show would carry on without O'Loughlin and/or Caan. Even the original H50 only lasted one final season without Danno on the show.

Look who showed up on the episode after the announcement was made. A cameo from Rick, one of the big four from Magnum PI.

Looks like today was the last day of shooting for at least McBride, Rath and Koale as they've done goodbye posts on Instagram. I imagine that shooting is nearly or completely done for the rest of the cast as well since I doubt half the team would finish before the other half, unless the final day is mainly going to be for Caan and O'Loughlin.

Edit: Lenkov posted the final call sheet for the series and I could only saw Katrina Law and Lance Gross slated for filming today. There were others who were reporting that O'Loughlin finished up yesterday and that just his and Caan's stunt doubles were going to be filming today.

Maybe Lance Gross joins the cast of Magnum if it comes back for season three?

I am thinking the 5-0 finale is the consolation prize for lance Gross. Magnum PI already has another vet helper, who happens to be disabled, as a reoccurring character. While they have systematically gotten rid of all the legacy names from the original show except the big four and Luther Gillis I really don't see room for another full time guy there except as an HPD partner for Detective Katsumoto.

I thought MacGyver was apart of the whole NCIS/Hawaiii-5-0 shared universe thing they kind of sort of do.

Anyway Chuck Norris seems to be playing a mash up of old characters he has played in the past. I haven't watched this show in a while either. Might try to catch up enough to see the finale though.

Since JAG/NCIS never protected their own continuity I would drop them out as that was a CBS crossover which has never been revisited just as the cameos on MacGyver now gets us a MacGyver regular actor coming into 5-0 as a guest, with rumored starring role if the show continued, as a different character. So maybe 5-0/MacGyver/Magnum shared universe like Law & Order universe has reused actors

Judging by the epilogue scene of the last Hatfield McCoy ranch murder episode with Steve and Danny enjoying the sunset with an I'll miss these moments comments it sure seems like they were signalling that McGarrett's failing health status, which has been in play for a few seasons would have had him retiring if not dying thus making room for a new Marine to join the cast if a 11th season came.

I'm okay for the most part with how the show ended, although I do think the McRollins ending felt a bit forced and the final shot of the show should have been something better than McGarrett on a plane.

Hawaii Five-0 Boss Opens Up About Series Finale and McGarrett's Fate: 'If We Were Coming Back for Season 11...'

Hawaii Five-0 Boss Defends the Series Finale's Very Final Scene

Based on an interview Lenkov gave earlier this week, he kind of points the finger at CBS for the show ending (citing vague references to economics, ratings, and network priorities) instead of the rumors that O'Loughlin was too injured and Caan wouldn't return if O'Loughlin didn't. As much he believed that O'Loughlin was ready to be done, Lenkov thought he could have been talked back into an 11th season had CBS made an effort to retain him and the show. With Lenkov's history of talking out of both sides of his mouth at times, I guess we'll never truly know why the show was actually cancelled.

The amount of time given to Cole did suggest that he was being set up to be the main action guy in season 11 if Alex O'Loughlin could be lured back to sit at the desk as boss. A possible Danny retirement after being badly wounded in the line of duty who is now in love with Hawaii is what his scene looked like. Would also be like the original where James MacArthur made almost to the end of the run.

Without Taylor Wiley's Kamekono's being the other cast member there since the beginning, being called in to send Steve off into indefinite leave left in fear that another ex sumo wrestler is heading towards an early death. Going to the house probably couldn't be framed to have him seated. I guess the next half season of Magnum PI will tell the story of his health.

If I wanted to watch the series finale, how many episodes do I need to watch to have an idea of what's going on and not miss any episodes of a storyline?

There is no real story arc as the show was episodic. It is in the general cultural knowledge that Wo Fat was McGarrett's arch enemy even if this reboot killed him off in the 100th episode. As most of 5-0 has been replaced by new members since 10 years ago I wouldn't say you need each members origin, they are cops and they are there.

In fact knowing too much of the back story would make the McGuffin fall apart when they reveal what it is.

I've watched most of the show but stopped watching around the 9th season and caught a few episodes here and there in the 10th. I've been commenting in this thread for years, so I'm not new to the show by any means. And surely you must know that, since you've responded to numerous posts by me in this thread over the years.

I know most of the back story and that it's episodic, but there are often some story arcs throughout a season. I was asking if there is a story arc leading up to the series finale with certain plot points that have to be resolved. I don't want to just watch the season finale if say, it's part 2 or 3 of a particular arc. That's why I was asking how many episodes I might need to watch to get a complete story and not just pick it up part way through. If say, the penultimate episode ended with "to be continued", then I would want to know that, so that I started watching from there rather than only seeing half the story.

They introduce Wo Fat's widow early in the season, and a add a new 5-0 member the episode before the end Besides that Junior and Tani becomes a couple. Killing off mama McGarrett and how that story plays out really makes you go say what when the McGuffin is revealed in the finale.

And as a finale you have a 3/4 episode where everything happens with the last 1/4 reserved for goodbyes.

It's better Hawaii 5-0 end now rather than it go on for 200 more seasons, like Grey's Anatomy has.

I started watching from 5 episodes towards the end but got bored. I skipped through 3 of them and then only watched a full episode of the penultimate show. Still have the finale to watch now. I remember one of the reasons I stopped was the annoying back and forth between McGarrett and Danno.

I definitely prefer Magnum PI and the banter between Magnum and Higgins.

Just watched the finale. Yawn. For a show that started with a massive bang it really went out with a whimper. McGarrett left to find peace ? WTF ?

This show went down the tubes when Chin and Kono left, and were replaced by incredibly boring characters played by bland actors.

Will rewatch the first few seasons, which were great, but wow, what a disappointing ending.
