HBO's Game of Thrones - - - Part 12

She looked ridiculously young last year. Thought for sure she was going to take the [BLACKOUT]"Arya" role[/BLACKOUT].

I think Strong Belwas is a much bigger loss, even though I am not his biggest fan. Dany's story has been missing the fun factor since losing Viserys and Drogo, and I think he would have helped that.

And the book version is so different in its intent then the show's version, much like the show as a whole. There is a real focus on Robb and the impact isn't so focused on Catelyn processing what is happening, but how Robb is torn from the audience. The viewer actually takes Catelyn's place on the show.

Belwas is almost the equivalent of Danys version of Great Jon. His usefulness can be re-written for a different character easily. Both characters are great and fun to read about and make the cast colorful in my opinion and taking them out hurts the show from a tone point of view for me. I know they are insignificant, well until we read WOW, but I'd have liked them to love out the roles on the show. One was completely cut while the other just vanished.

Belwas and GreatJon aren't equivalent. GreatJon does 2 things, one of which we only hear about. He isn't even a major presence in the books since he's away with Robb. Strong Belwas is part of Dany's inner circle; the fact that Barristan Selmy was willing to pose as his squire speaks a lot about him, too.

Greatjon Umber declared Robb as King in the North, and then he just legged it. What a coward lol.

But what I'm saying is that Belwas really only serves two purposes in the books, his one on one fight and eating a certain meal. Yes Selmy poses as his squire but that was more ruse than anything, but I understand your point. GreatJon makes his liege lord declare himself King and has his scene at the Red Wedding and is a part of Robb's inner circle as much as Belwas was Danys. They are very comparable. Either way both characters are missed, Belwas would have been hilarious on screen.

I'm not too put out by either Belwas or Greatjon's omission from the show. More Daario time. What I hope isn't lost is the flavor of Meereen, specifically the Brazen Beasts. Likewise, I hope they don't try to downplay all the red priest material coming later down the line. Or the stone people.

Refresh me: in the show, did Jorah convince Dany to build her own army independent of Illyrio's machinations? I liked that part in the books.

It is pretty odd reading the first book and getting introduced to characters I've never even heard of. Donal Noye seems like a really cool character so far. Wished he'd been in the show in the first season. I'm starting to fear that I'm gonna like the show a little but less as I'm making my way through the books. There's just so damn much stuff here that was never in the show or even really alluded to. Oh well, the first book is awesome so far just hard to find time to read a lot

Obama Is Already Binge-Watching the New Season of Game of Thrones

While the rest of us struggle with expensive cable packages or try to bum HBO GO passwords, the president has already taken delivery of screeners for season 4 of Game of Thrones. Commoners won't get the first episode until April 6.

"One perk of being the most powerful man in the world: yes, you get to see episodes early," showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told Vanity Fair.

Game of Thrones has been a favorite in House Obama for some time. At a state dinner last month, the president asked HBO CEO Richard Plepler for advance episodes of Game and True Detective, the New York Times reported.

We know he got one of the two shows, but nobody has confirmed whether Obama withheld the identity of the Yellow King from the American public. Scandal!

Who would have thought being the President would come with such awesome perks?

I have never said anything anyone being disappointed. I disputed that on a show like Game of Thrones, where there are literally dozens of fascinating and compelling characters, that he does not qualifies as a "great" character.
You can still have great minor characters no matter how many other great major ones you have. Otherwise all the minor guys should just give up trying to do as well as they can once the quota of great characters has been used up (which probably happened halfway through the 1st episode). :woot: He made his few scenes memorable enough at least that debates like this will exist. I love that he's been in this show even if he's not going to be in it any more and those scenes are fun to rewatch every time.

How far did you get? I'm about 70% through the 1st book. I've had no time for anything the last couple of months. :csad: (well apart from watching the whole TV show a couple of times that is!)

How good for the president !!!

I can't make out what was the bottom dragon eating a person or animal ?

Oh Donal Noye. he will be in our hearts forever-
i gotta say, you have to be pretty badass in order to be a one-arm smith.

"Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He'll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he's copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day"

Genius

well, i guess considering Dany is there chilling out wouldn't make it right to be a person :)
"so Dany, what you've been up to?" - " oh nothing, here, feeding humans to my dragons"

that would be a good decision. considering Jeyne Poole was for 3 seconds in the pilot

Didn't expect that from the presidente, you should have put the link to the original story in your post.

It is from Vanity Fair. They also said that Game of Thrones is definitely ending by Season 8, possibly even Season 7. I will be surprised if we have even one more of the remaining books by then.

Actually, didn't the creators just say that they would like to reach Season 7? not that it would be the end there?

I took it as a young kid being a typical teenager... having your fathers bannermen bend the knee to you and calling you a king... just made him arrogant. Which is another reason I say Robb was dumber then Ned, Ned would have never of done that. Ned (in Robbs position) would take care of business and RUN BACK TO WINTERFELLLLL.

Robb got carried away when his men declared him King in the North. His options of a Stark-Baratheon alliance were either Renly, who was supported by the Reach and majority of the Stormlands, or Stannis, who had a few Stormlanders and small islands in the Narrow Sea. Add in their personalities, and Renly is the more appealing option.

Thinking about it now, didn't Renly have a larger army than Stannis as well? I don't remember the number, but I seem to remember that Renly outnumbered Stannis by a lot. I think part of the factor in Renly's assassination was that most of them would run to Dragonstone and bend the knee in fealty to Stannis.

It was probably just a tactical decision on Robb's part, by supporting the guy with the most support and larger army, I guess?

When you get down to it, too, Renly was an ******* for thinking he could take the seat that belongs to his brother.

He needs it to help him prepare to deal with Vladimir Putin over the next few months.

Like 180 pages in so far

No.

the end is coming, the end is nigh. So, for us, whether it ends up being seven or eight, it’s right around there. I think we’ve always felt — we just completed the fourth season — this is the midpoint. And we’re coming around the bend right now.

They also further went on to talk with David and he thinks it can be done in 7, but they may go into 8 (which I think will probably happen). But they won't (and don't need to) go beyond 8.

And again I know it's the "teehee" on the interwebz, but I think Martin is probably going through writing TWOW and ADOS at a much brisker pace then his last two books. He's got the pressure now. The way David and Dan talked about talking with Martin I think Martin feels confident he will get them done.

I don't think there is anyway GRRM finishes in time. I don't know why, but I feel kind of sad that we are almost a the midway point here. Where does time go?

But if they really are shooting for 7, all the Feast of Crows fans are about to get a hatchet to their book. I really hope they go 8.
