I'm not feeling this season too much, however I hope it still does well. I like the idea of the anthology format and I feel there is a lot of potential for this show in its future iterations.

Yeah me too just this season so far is average and its coming off a great previous season. Still 5 episodes left so anything can happen. However next season hopefully is good from start to finish.

For some reason, the song finally clicked for me during this last episode.

I think lyrically, I prefer season 2's, and in terms of melody, season one in a way. But they are both so different. Lyrically these opening titles relates A LOT to the story this season. I also like how they're changing the lyrics in the latter half of the title sequence in these past three episodes.

the most interesting thing will be how everything is connected in the end. nic is great writer, he proved it last year, so looking forward to see what will happen this season..

Episode 4 and 5. This is where it really picked up in the first season. Im pretty sure history will repeat itself. And as much as i love the final 3, controversial, episodes from last year...i have a feeling this season will go out with a bigger bang.

yeah man he is the definition of over the top and his son is even worst
I thought his son was hilarious, the mayor as well. This episode was hilarious to me and my friends. So many lines and great facial expressions that brought a lot of humor to the season.

The critics only saw the first 3 episodes, and they keep saying "there's no humor, it's too straight". I completely disagree with them. I can name a bunch of moments in all 3 episodes (especially the third) where i literally laughed out loud.

My favorite delivery on Sunday, was the mayor reacting to Ray's comment about Ani not trusting him "I was never Columbo" ...*the mayor points at Ray while looking at the chief* "What the F**K DOES THAT MEAN!!????". Sooo good. The chechen had some of the best lines in The Dark Knight. Here too, i see.

I love The Mayor and his son. His son is interesting too. He's not just some spoiled brat. Pizzolatto like any good writer is good at taking characters and giving them nuance and interesting character quirks that gives them more dimension that doesn't come off as gimmicky. In this case he gives his seemingly scumbag son a special talent for voices. As a result, he's able to do different jobs. He's smart. That's ****ing cool. The Mayor is a character you see in any noir who's alcoholism is a consequence of his role as the mayor of this **** little city and his family life which we've just scratched the surface of.

My other favorite lines in this episode:

"You've got a lot of problems, you know that?"

"I'm whittling them down."

I have four words: Ray Velcoro's glove box.

But yeah that was intense. And they know they ****ed up bad.

It's interesting that, despite how different this season has been so far, its structure has some similarities to that of the first season.

Looks like the case may be "solved" again in this case when it really isn't.

So remind me how many episode's there are in this season? 7 or 8 guy's?

It seems Vinci might just pin it on this guy they killed so they could find an excuse to wrap it up. It was what they were looking for anyway.

After tonight's episode, no way anyone can say season 2 isn't good. That was a CRAZY GOOD episode!

Great ending shootout with some hopefully great outcomes. The reactions of the main three in the end gave the scene gravitas.

I'm glad they actually reacted and knew they ****ed up big time and are waiting to face what's coming to them.

Thank God for the shootout, I was practically comatose for the first 45 minutes.

The shootout was great.

I had been binge watching The Knick this week and after enjoying the marvelous direction of Steven Soderbergh, the ending shootout just seemed really ordinary. It was a necessary shot in the arm for sure, but I don't know, there seems to be so many moving parts these season and as a viewer, I find myself spacing out and missing key clues, and the big moment, our "Who Goes There" moment, felt ordinary. (But I blame that on watching The Knick)

I do like the conspiracy angle though with the main three, but I really don't think Ani's IA investigation is a necessary subplot to introduce, if only to really answer some of the criticism that Pizzolatto got last season for his portrayal of women. I dig McAdams, but her monologue kinda fell flat too.

Vaughn's still acting pretty well, but Frank's just been stagnating as a character. I bet he'll pick up once the case is ostensibly solved, but we've really just seen Frank kinda spend each week trying to get his money back by going to people he used to know, and this week was kinda just like...blah. I bet it'll pay dividends once his storyline becomes further intertwined with Velcoro, Woodrugh and Bezzerides, but yeah.

Glad to hear the episode was good. This season was about to lose me and the thought of watching the latest episode just seemed like a chore. Now I've got some motivation.
