Drama HBO's True Detective - Part 3

What do you all think that Brett Woodard had in that bag of his? Could be either a weapon or maybe a body.

Looks like weapons and based on the trailer he is going to lead the group after him into a trap and open fire on them .

I'm thinking weapons as well.

Another great episode. I am really loving the tone and atmosphere of this season.

I think there's something with that Hoyt fellow. You see that portrait of the woman and her little daughter? Even though he was gone at the time, I could see him wanting the girl after he lost his granddaughter. Maybe he hired some people to abduct them.

Or I could be totally wrong here. This mystery keeps deepening with every episode. And next week looks like it adds another layer. No wonder Hays and West have been stumped!

Up to episode 3 and I am loving it so far! I liked S2, but this is a return to form!

Decent episode. A bit dragging, though.
Wild "out there" theory, what if Amelia had something to do with it? I would never suspect her, so of course it'd be perfect.
Doesn't really feel "out there", tbh. The shows acts peculiar around her and Hays family overall.

Literal bang of an ending. But hey, those folks could only back Brett Woodard into a corner for so long.

Someone on Twitter proposed this theory: what if Elisa Montgomery, the interviewer in 2015, is Julie Purcell, just with a new name and identity? After all, the basis for this seems to be that she has a lot of knowledge about the Purcell investigation. It'd be an interesting twist, especially with how much she's talking with Wayne about what happened, but I guess we'll see.

That would be a twist, and a cool one. :D

Oh, ****. Then I guess the crooked spiral was a direct reference to season one, and that these seasons all do exist within the same world. I'm fine with that as long as Rust doesn't show up and takes over the show.

By the way, I do agree with Roland: this is the second time that Wayne has used prison rape as a threat. Is there something that he's not telling us? I mean, it's morbidly humorous to see him do it again and again, but you've gotta wonder if there's a reason for it.

Me after episode 4:

Damn all those theories. :D

Pains me to say this, but I've been largely bored of Season 3 to this point.

Hoping that little cliffhanger there with the Native man setting up the traps helps pick up the pace.

I'm liking this season, but I can understand if some people are getting bored with it.

I feel some scenes drag on a bit too long, like for example that restaurant date scene in the last episode... I think that could've been a lot shorter

I think Lucy had an affair with that Hoyt guy and Julie is his daughter. The brown Cadillac is probably one of his. They probably approached her and Henry (Henry always being with her) but not telling her her true parentage but always met with the two and played with them, promising a better life for Julie, away from their current home life. Henry dying may have been an accident. Except the black man and white woman being seen is the only thing throwing me. Maybe they were hired by Hoyt but I think these two could be the two ghosts Ronnie referred to.

That acting in the last ten minutes. Phenomenal. God-damn. I don't usually like talking like this but that scene is pretty much Ali and Dorff's Emmy submission. Perfect song at the end too.

Ali is getting an Emmy this Fall; no doubt about that.

All praise to Dorff. He has been Incredible in this show.

Don't usually watch things early but I did this time on account of the Super Bowl. Another great episode and yeah, Dorff is my new favorite. Never seen him in anything before this. :)

Without spoiling it for those who choose to watch it live, really enjoyed this episode. More than that, really enjoyed the final few minutes with Wayne and Roland.

Man the acting in the last 10 minutes of that episode was ****ing superb. Dorff and Ali have such great chemistry in this show and you really buy into their relationship. Damn near brought a tear to my eye even.
