Ya, this whole permawhite issue is causing a stir around these parts...

back on topic, I cant believe how ugly that friggin 5 inch joker figure is. just as ugly, if not uglier then the BB figures from 2 years ago. the lines from the 90's Batman films were MUCH better, and that's not nostalgia talking.

i actually think that the figure looks alot better then i thought it would. i had a feeling the toy would be horrible...but its not to bad.

Its 6 inch and not a crappy non movie authentic non articulated piece of crap like the Begins stuff Mattel put out a few years ago.....I'm HAPPY!!! Awesome figure THUMBS UP 4 HORSEMAN!!!

I agree, the figures have indeed improved dramatically. But when it comes the Joker, I dunno, I really aim for perfection. And I'm sure everyone else here expects the same. But at least I can say the merchanise and campaign has never been bigger; well at least bigger than Begins.:cwink: :brucebat:

true enough KJ, the figure could be better. and for all we know, there could very well be a better more realistic figure coming out in the future, but as i said for this one, its better then i expected because of the BB toy line.

Well, he wouldn't put on make up just to scare people for a start. That changes his behaviour, doesn't it?

Well seeing that you know as much about those scenes as I do (ie, nothing apart from the trailer and sides), neither of us can comment on what he would or wouldn't do, white skin or not, it's a fallacious argument I'm afraid!

he doesnt just put on makeup to scare people, he puts it on to accentuate his scars, which in case you didnt notice, is standing in for white skin as a permanant deformity. he was still in some kind of accident we just dont know which. he is still permanatly changed physically. so most of your argument is moot im afraid.

LOL, thats ridiculous! What did you see of the Joker in the interrogation room!? You saw him smack his lips!

You see him walk down an empty street. And standing.

You See him shoot a gun!

Maybe I'm defeated here. You're a better man than I am! I can't say I know how the joker acts to certain situations in a film from based on a trailer from which i have heard about 5 lines of dialogue from a character and seen about 30 seconds of footage.

well, some of us have seen about 7 minutes of him on film so we have a general idea hopw he walks talks etc...as well as first hand set reports of the filming. so i would say we know a little more than how he "smacks his lips".

this should really be in the makeup thread though.

im gonna repost this there.

It's a boring looking figure, and I think that captures Nolan's boring approach to the character quite well.
reqwec, regwec, oh reqwec. Why must you be the fly in the ointment. :woot: .

Come on, guys...

To get the good face sculpts, we need to buy the top shelf collectibles. The things that will come from places like Sideshow, not Mattel. :whatever:

We all know this.

I've seen the prologue in an imax cinema, thank you very much!

And if you had too, you would have seen one of Joker's goons say he puts on make up to scare people.

That is all.

ok, if nolan didnt take this route and some fan made a film making joker look like this, most fans would be sh**ing on it, saying how hes not permawhite and all. lets just say, if nolan wasnt the one doing it, most if not all the fanboys would be saying this joker looks like crap. but because nolan is doing *GASP!* it looks wonderful! :whatever:
I still wouldn't really care, actually. I have no problem with a make-up Joker, and in fact like it just as much as a perma-joker.

I plan on buying one. I think it is pretty cool. It captures the mood.

not true, at first when i realised ledger wasnt perma-white i was quite distraught by it, but it grew on me over the months, like it was said before (sorry i cant remember who said it) but even though hes not perma-white he has that chelsea grin for a permanant deformity, so its not like your normal run of the mill killer, he still has a deformity that could be mind-snapping to an already unstable person.

Are there any pics released for the larger scale model yet? If they are even planning on a 12"-15".

It's going to be a 13 inch doll from DC Direct/Corgi. There should be pictures this weekend.

Yeah, human beings are well conditioned to get used to anything, no matter how undesirable. Severed limbs, bereavement, terminal disease and infertility can all be faced with composure and stoicism. Why not the sabotage of a beloved childhood anti-idol? It's nothing, really...

Yes, you could call it a logical "extreme".

Everyone's putting shiit on this Joker....WTF? It's a LITERAL rendering of the Joker from the comics, what more do you want? Not saying I'd want this in a new movie but for what it is it's pretty damn cool. Look at the thing, 100% Joker. It was the actor that butchered it.

regwec, i posted this a few pages back:

It's a boring looking figure, and I think that captures Nolan's boring approach to the character quite well.

Heh. A 'boring' Joker would have no purple coat, no stupid socks, no reimagined visage for the screen, no pranks, no dress-ups, no vandalised Hyams trucks, no knives and lint, no rpg's and no dynamic range in performance. Boring would be a Joker with a stock standard villain plot and muted colours on his face passing for realism. You may not like *everything* about the new Joker but you at least have to admit, it could have been MUCH worse and it's certainly not boring. Boring is something we've already seen before, and as I understand it your main gripe with Nolans joker is in the new *changes* from tradition. This makes no sense, help me understand.

But you're right it is a boring figure, even he looks unimpressed.

Nolan's Joker is an off-the-rack "bad guy" who does bad things because he's bad. He may as well be wearing a purple coat and sloppy facepaint for licensing reasons, and to make the action figure more attractive to children. He espouses painfully hackneyed clown references like "why so serious?" and "let's put a smile on that face" which recall Arnold's endless "cold" puns in Batman and Robin. He is more of a plagarism than an adaptation of The Joker from the comics, because the character has been written as a man who merely wears the "Joker identity" for effect.

The most interesting things about him are his socks.
