With all due respect to the deceased, even accomplished actors can and do get surpassed. This is one of those times.

I agree in some way. But I think the better assessment/judgment is that Cavill IS THE perfect modern age representation of Superman whereas as Reeve was THE perfect silver age representation of Superman.

I think BvS will show what Superman could be, but isn't. He could be the angry God who does as he pleases. But that's not in his upbringing. So if there's Batman's paranoia mixed with Lex manipulation, the audience may feel sorry for the guy when Batman brings a beatdown.

Not in my eyes. Cavill has been fine so far, but Reeve was on a different level.

This is what I expect.

Both Reeve and Cavill are fantastic as Superman and lets leave it at that. :yay:

The successors of heroes.

Agreed, they are both the Superman of their generations and were/are both perfect for the role

I'm hoping that the upcoming new trailer will show Henry actually speaking some lines in it.

Honestly, I still can't figure out how I completely feel about the predicament that Superman's character is in for this film.

On one hand, his actions and the events of his solo film are the basis of this film. Yet on the other hand, it's pretty obvious that Batman's character has been getting a majority of the focus when it comes to the promotion of this film.

I just hope that they've given Henry some real good material to work with, to show not only his range as a actor but to show that Superman has more layers as a character as well.

That's just norm though he is the antagonist so he gets more focus because Henry's Superman is already established. Just like Heath's Joker in the Dark Knight promotions and Bane/Catwoman did in the Dark Knight Rises promotions. Tbh I expect the Joker will dominate the promotional stuff for Suicide Squad aswell.

Yep.

At least (I hope) we can all agree on one thing.

BOTH Cavill and Reeve were a BILLION times better than Routh, Welling, Cain and whoever played Superboy on that awful 90s TV show.

Well, to be fair, that's not saying much. :oldrazz:

And, honestly, I don't think Cain should be lumped in with Welling or Routh.

Anyway: I wasn't impressed with Cavill in MOS, but I think he has potential. I imagine he'll have more than his fair share of opportunities to shine in DOJ, and I hope he capitalizes on them.

I personally thought Cavill was great, but I can see why some fans were underwhelmed. I do hope that they give us more scenes of him enjoying himself a bit and using some of that charm. I get that they want to do the whole "weight of the world upon Superman" thing (and I do like that approach) but I also hope that it's not all angst.

Oh let's not taie down past Supermen, but I will agree the top level in Reeve and Cavil although I feel George Reeve's deserves to be up there with them.

For the record I loved Superboy, Lois & Clark (first season) and Smallville so I have a soft spot for them all. It's funny though because for the glasses wearing Daily Planet Clark Kent I think Cain was the best but I think he was the worst Superman.

Yeah, I'd agree that Cain's Clark was okay (wow, did I just give him a compliment?). I just HATED his Superman.

I found Cain and that series painfully mediocre.

Henry's smile as Supes is luminous. That's my favorite thing about his interpretation. When he smiled, I couldn't see anyone not trusting him. It's a quality I've never seen in any other portrayal. That and 'dem cheekbones!

Same here. I want to see Cavill smiling, laughing, joking around, and offering comfort. I'm fine with a little angst here and there, and even genuine rage, but the character should be allowed to have access to the entire emotional spectrum.

Cavill's a charming fellow. I'm sure he'd be able to let some of his natural charisma bleed into his performance. He just needs to be given the opportunity to do so.

i do like the frightened batman and evil-ish superman in the sneak peek.
totally different view on superman. i like it. not to actually be real,
but i'd like a 'ala bizarro' evil superman dream.

Yeah, I'd agree that Cain's Clark was okay (wow, did I just give him a compliment?). I just HATED his Superman.

The problem was he never seemed comfortable as Superman and I'd even say he came across far more confident as Clark Kent. I really do love his CK though it's very much like the Byrne era of Superman.

Dean Cain's superman was NOT an Alpha-Male presentation/acting.

that's the problem.

Superman must be 'alpha male' quite naturally.
Cavill not only has the 'looks' and 'muscularity' to demand a certain amount of Alphaness, he makes himself Alpha during the movie in each quality.

Ahead of the government following him with spydrones, crack! there goes the handcuffs im only playing along because I want to, not bending to the wishes
and desires of earthlings nor kryptonians, and snapping a neck when he sees the
need to it.

Cavill shows a powerfull Superman. A confident man that has a good heart, but not a p*ssy.

Btw, Batfleck is definately Alpha Male too. Bale seemed to be in Begins, but i'm not so sure about TDK and definately wasn't in TDKR.

Same goes for Superman Returns' Routh.

I'm actually really excited to see Cavill's DP Clark Kent

I'm looking forward to Cavill's DP Clark also. We literally only got one scene last time. So his interpretation of DP Clark could be anything.

Isn't Clark kent like he was with his mom on earth and at the truck diner etc. Clark how he'd be as a Clark kent @ Daily planet?

imho Clark already excisted. He only found out he 'also' is a supernatural alien being with superpowers with which he is able to cause good.

Though i must say he seemed a bit 'reckless' on not getting caught sneaking around where he rather could not be [ the kryptonian vessel ].

But yes, i'm curious as how his character story will be as the DP reporter.

Interestingly he has an interest in doing a story 'taking down' the Batman.
So, where did this come from? Has he a pre-formed opinion on the bat or
did live experiences that we see during the movie cause him to have a
'opinion' on the bat for the public?

I hope he's more like the Byrne era Clark/ STAS Clark which are my absolute favourite Clark's
