BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - - - - Part 24

I said this in MAN OF STEEL...this "distance" is very much intentional. Lois is his lifeline, his mother, and to a smaller extent, Perry. And that does come through.

Cavill really does excel at exhuding warmth without even any dialogue. His greeting of Lois, the Day of the Dead sequence, the quiet smile when he saves that girl as he returns her to her family, and the moments at the end with Lois...just...perfect stuff.

And that. Is. Superman.

It'd just be nice to have a bit more of that.

But I get where they're coming from. He's still unsure of his place in the world, how to relate to those who see him as a God, etc. Even in the court he was having some issues.

It's clear he has reverence for the character, but I think that has translated too literally with how he's been portrayed. Take away the scenes with Martha, and this Superman is jarringly distant from the common man.

He's technically saving and caring for others, but in the same manner in which we let a insect out of the house rather than squashing them. There's an emotional disconnect which many rightfully find to be integral to the Supes they love.

With how the film ends, I fear they'll take this demigod route even further, if that's imaginable.
Oh god no!

I think we're going to see one more foray into Dark God, courtesy another Dark God.

I do think Snyder gets aspects of Superman. Does he get enough aspects is the question of the day.

Well I liked the montage... but more of Supes interacting with folks would be good. The best Superman parts were day of the dead, and the rescuing people from the flood. And the heroic end of course.

I don't think the problem is him grimacing. I think it's more the doubting. The lack of confidence. Considering how confident he sounded at the end of MoS, it's a little bit of a step back. I suppose it's the sudden turn against him after the Africa thing that makes him so upset. People are plotting against him and it's getting to him...

God, the courtroom scene was a hugely missed opportunity. Finally a moment in which Supes can address ALL of mankind, create some engaging dialog fully addressing the slights hurled against him... and he's literally mute!

:nuhu:

It's like being set the stage for an open dunk/lay-up, and instead chucking an airball.

I don't quite understand what this distance is supposed to convey. If Superman's supposed to be distant from humanity, at least don't make him distant to the audience. Let us understand and relate to his difficulties with humanity.

He shouldn't be a cypher to us.

Snyder likes dark characters. He is overdoing the darkness and loneliness in Superman because those are the type of characters that he digs.

That might turn me into a hater.

I would definitely hate this. It would kill the franchise for me. But I fear they're possibly gonna go that route. BvS' poor reception critically should hopefully show them that's the worse idea possible.

Sounds like Henry gave another great performance that was hampered by the writing. Can't wait to judge for myself.
Yes i would agree with that. Cavill did a great job and looked fantastic but was hampered by not having time to breath . His facial expressions during some scenes hit a cord with me,especially [BLACKOUT]Batman owning his arse after the kyptonite,he was really out of his depth and his face said it all,he felt powerless[/BLACKOUT]

Oddly enough, if Snyder stays I still want him to stay on track with whatever he's planned. I have a huge grudge against creators abandoning their creative vision to appease the crowd. If the story has to be scrapped, so too does its creator. Otherwise he's not operating at his own behest, and that's a big no-no in artistry.

Day of the Dead scene was my favourite, so much warmth from him.

Oh yeah, when he was carrying the girl in his arms and gave her back to her family.

I also loved seeing sweat in his forehead.

I agree with you completely. Don't force him to do something that he doesn't want to do.

That's kind of the point of Lex's plan.

If Superman gives a feel good speech, it's not exactly playing into Lex's hands.

Superman could have have used the screen time and development in a film where he's already being minimized. With all the time he's been active, staying silent has only made matters worse for him. Sulking about it with Lois and Martha has done him zero favors. Contextually and creatively, it was a missed opportunity.

Sulk is all most of the characters did in the film. I mean it's ****ing depressing.

Um....if he thinks evil Supes is the right route, he deserves to be fired. Don't force him...just get rid of him and get someone who understands that happier Supes is the better arc.

Probably.

I don't know what to tell you. I didn't write the film.

I don't think they sulked so much as contemplated a lot.
