BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - Part 21

Man from Uncle was fun and I thought Cavill's swag was on full display. Armie Hammer was tremendous as well and played his part nicely. He was funny in his role but Cavill has much more gravity and weight as an actor I feel. He definitely commands a certain type of energy on screen and is getting better as an overall actor.

As for Routh, Routh wasn't Superman. He was impersonating Christopher Reeve. I can't evaluate Routh the proper way. He should of had the chance to do his own take on Supes but he was only chosen to be a Reeve impersonator. I think Ray Palmer suits him better.

I never got too much into Smallville. The moments that I've seen Welling, he made me change the channel and had me wincing from his performances. He probably had his moments, but he never did anything for me and actually prevented me from watching the show. He just had that effect on me. I still have the entire 1st season to give a spin.

I think the world of Henry Cavill as Supes. I've gushed many times over Henry. Seeing the BvS footage so far, he's really comfortable with the character and I'm excited to go on this long journey with him. He also talks highly of the character and you can tell he has an affection for Supes and because of that, I feel Supes fans are in great hands with Henry leading the way. He's the perfect modern age Superman that we can get and I couldn't be happier as a fan to see Henry represent. He's Supermanish in his normal personality so that's always a plus.

Routh has certainly improved as an actor since SR; even though I find his Ray Palmer character annoying as hell, I think that's because the writing on Arrow has gotten so bad more than anything to do with Routh himself. But I honestly don't have time for people who try and say that Routh was somehow a better Superman than Cavill. I'm sorry, but if anyone actually believes that, they don't know anything about acting. Routh looked completely clueless in SR. I'm sure part of that was because his only direction was apparently, "act like Christopher Reeve, only with 75% less personality." But Routh was still a very weak actor and it showed big time. Literally every character he acted against upstaged him. So when some Routhite tries to tell me that Cavill was "wooden" in MOS, I tell them to go watch SR again because Routh was a goddamned Lincoln Log.

As for Welling, I think he was average at best. He had a few good moments here and there but I'm glad they never made a Smallville movie (something that was never going to happen but it's hilarious that people thought it would). Like many have said, he suits the CW. The majority of lead actors and actresses on those shows are at about his level, with a few exceptions (Grant Gustin, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards)... they're decent, they look good, but they're nothing to write home about.

Cavill is great though. I think he has the potential to surpass even Reeve if he's given good material. I loved MOS (it's flawed but it's also a beautiful film) and I'm crossing my fingers for BvS... I personally have really liked everything I've seen so far and I think most of the criticisms I've heard (Cramming too much into one movie! They gave the whole story away! Just trying to copy Marvel!) are trollish and damn near baseless.

Awesome! Hope you enjoy! I think it's frothy fun...with cool action, clothes, cars and comedy. I think you'll find it worth it.

Man From UNCLE was pretty good. Nothing great, but definitely enjoyable. Henry was awesome.

Cool I'll watch it tomorrow or Monday for sure

I think Welling was fine. Just fine. He never set my world on fire, but he did well enough for me to look back on his time as Clark Kent with fondness.

He was much better at playing the bad guy, though. His Clark Luthor, for example, was much more engaging than his Clark Kent.

He was so good when he was evil, I think that's where he showed he can act in those moments.

To this day I still think Wellings build was close to perfect most of the time (considering his weight fluctuated) for a young Superman

I'd love to have seen what he'd have turned out like after going through the kind of training Cavill did

He's a lot more mature looking now and seems to have slimmed a lot

I'll never forget when they announced Bryan Singer was doing Superman, my cousin in law (is that even a thing?) said to me they should just get the guy from Smallville cause he's perfect. Now he's no Superman fan but even he could see how much Tom looked like Superman.

Watching MoS on FX. Random thoughts:

1. I just noticed that when Supes boards the Black Zero with Lois, he lets her go first--- what manners. So like a decent Kansas farmboy.

2. I love when Supes reacts to the atmosphere on Zod's ship, and says "I...feel strange...weak" Pitch perfect Superman delivery

3. Clark wearing a Royals T-Shirt even in the vision he has with Zod = amazing. His love for his Kansas sports teams runs so deep that it's ingrained in his brain.

1. Nice

2. Yeah that's one of my favourite Cavill moments for sure

3. haha yeah that's was a nice touch.

The whole Black Zero sequence is my favourite part of Man of Steel. The way it looks, the music, the acting. It's flawless!

I never thought his face fit Superman. Cavill, Reeve, Routh all have the Superman face to me though.

I couldn't disagree more but each to their own.

Really? I look at that recent pic of him (older) above and he looks more Superman to me now than ever, which is apt considering he was essentially playing superboy on the show. I think if he had never been in Smallville and was cast now as Superman, on a physical level I would have no issues with that at all - he has the height and build and facial features imo.

I think Cavill looks more like Superman than Routh (too feminine) and Welling. He even looks more like the character in the comics than Christopher Reeve. Even down to the ever so subtle chin dimple. His physique is basically perfect for Superman. Not too lean, not too bulky.

Welling had (has) a great face for a young adult Clark Kent, but he always looked too youthful in my eyes to really sell me on the idea of him as Superman proper.

Welling was just not a good actor, imo. I don't care about him never wearing the suit, and it has nothing to do with wanting to tear him down to build...anyone up. He just didn't deliver half his lines credibly and couldn't sell a genuine emotional moment if his life depended on it. To me, he was just the textbook definition of the term "CW-level acting," and he was doing it well before the CW even existed.

So you're telling me that Tom Welling created the CW?

I said a few pages back how I thought welling was really good in the few episodes where he was on red K or something that he is really good playing bad and I think could make a great villain in a movie. Would love to see him play a villain no matter if you are talking about a super man villain, batman villain, spider man villain doesn't really matter just something. Playing bad is when he is at his best. Yeah he did have the look and I wouldn't have mind him playing superman but with that said I liked Henry cavil a lot in man of steel.

Yeah, he is a Superman that is being redefined for the world we live in today, and there will be an evolution to the character. In a way, this Superman is still discovering what his meaning is. He will mature, of course, but I think it will remain full of surprises, hopefully. That is exciting. And I agree that Cavill is really perfect for the role.

So I just finished the Man From U.N.C.L.E, really enjoyed it a lot of fun. Thought Cavill and Hammer were great in it. Shame it didn't do to well would have loved a sequel.

Nope, This is the Henry Cavill thread and Henry Cavill is on the poster.

Oh ok, didn't know if it was thread spamming in your rules to cross platform the same pic being posted in various threads ;) (totally joking around with you right now btw :sly: )
