I'll second that. They'll have to tomato me too.

I love Reeve, for me he's the king and the first Superman I've seen live action all I have is respect for him. But I have to admit that Cavill is like if he was pull-off from a comic book. His presence is very supermanish and IMO he was pretty badass in some scenes. The only thing Cavill needs to do is the DP Clark Kent to fullfill his Superman character.

While I wouldn't go as far as to say Cavill looks more Superman than any other actor, he definitely looks like Jim Lee Superman come to life, while Reeve resembles Curt Swan and George Reeves resembles Wayne Boring.

Swan generally depicted Superman with a mature hairline, giving him a closer resemblance to Cavill in my humble opinion.

Having said that, I think both Reeve and Cavill have their own unique look. Even Gary Frank's rendition of Superman lacks a certain quality that Reeve had. It's very close but no cigar!

Gary Frank's Superman sucks. He looks like a total dork. He's trying to emulate Reeve, but the result is really nerdy looking.

And for now, Reeve is the definitive Superman. But Cavill comes close, I suspect he'll take up Reeve's mantle with this next film.

Mr. Reeve is not the be all end all Superman for everyone. I'd seen the old movies as a kid and liked them well enough, but I didn't become a fan of the character until reading some select series of comics much later on. Henry Cavill is the first live action Superman to strike that same chord I felt while reading my favorite Superman stories. Don't like that? Deal with it.

Mine too! It's all about the rugged scruff. Speaking of which, I've just seen this which the total opposite - smooth-faced teen Henry. Not strictly Superman related so sorry if people get peed off, but it highlights the innate dorkiness that Henry has - which is why I'm so excited for his DP Clark. He's clearly not remotely 'gawky' in terms of looks but despite his beauty he still somehow manages to look like a total dork?? I'm not sure what it is!! But mega geeky.
