It's on the SHH main page so yeah, it's real.
why are you guys soo dead set against welling? this is why i do not go in the superman casting threads. welling would be the top choice and i will not rule him out until i hear otherwise. funny how neither nolan or snyder hasn't ruled tom out publicly yet. they sure did with routh right away. NONE of the current casting ideas excite me at all.
Unfortunatly, what I've come to realize that due to years of false hopes, battling with haters and Routh-like castings even most of Tom's supporters have lowered their arms and given up, which was exactly what the haters (the assumed ones and the others that pose as supposed fans but who continue to knock on the dead horse of the "new direction") wanted.
As a long time fan of Tom's and member of this board it's sad to realize that. Part of me even understands it. They don't want to taste the same disappointment again. But the fact is if his fans shut up, then that's when all hope is lost. I will never stopped fighting for what I believe in and I believe in Tom Welling so strongly because he made me believe again (like so many million others) in the character and because I think he's the one that can make it work and bring Superman's hope and optimism that the world so desperatly needs right now.
The only real fact is it ain't over 'till it's over. Like you said, until someone else is announced, Tom is as likely choice as every other one of those names (even more since he's a fan favourite). I do believe that Warner would want him, the only likely opposition could be of Snyder wanting to chose his own Superman.
And even if someone else is chosen, that doesn't mean they will be successful and if that happens the battle continues on !
The character could end up at Marvel and I doubt they will make the same mistake as Warner, especially with Jeph Loeb (a vocal Tom Welling supporter) "directing traffic" there in terms of their live action adaptations.
Those that continue to put Tom in the same bag as Routh tend to forget that unlike Tom, Routh has already had his shot in the big screen and failed miserably. Tom has earned the right to have at least a screentest after 10 years of success playing the character longer than any other actor including Christopher Reeve.
The fact that he grew alongside the character for 10 years makes it almost impossible to even conceive (to many) any other guy in the role.
A new guy would have to not only portray the character in a believable way and try to make in his mind an entire past/background (that he did not play unlike Tom) in order to get the character where it is today. Until now only, Chris has been able to do it and as much as I love him, I found out that I enjoy and relate more to Tom, perhaps just because he grew with the role (and as an actor) to get where he is today and understands it better.
Add to it the fact that he has to erase the memory of his tv counter part that has made an indellible mark in the role.
If a new guy is indeed chosen, he may found out like Routh has (and Warner painfully ha$) that it's not as easy as it seems.
As much as Warner hopes, Nolan is not the be all end all almighty God of movies, and Snyder though talented hasn't got a real hit except 300.
Tom is their best chance. Like we all know, general fans and even the ones that complain will more than likely see the movie, unlike Smallville/Tom Welling fans who will not support it/see it several times or buy the dvd/blu ray.
Sure it can still make 400 plus like SR did but those fans can make the difference between that lackluster result and the 600-800 million in profit that Warner really has. The secret to Superman has ALWAYS been Superman itself, if you don't believe in him and RELATE to him (something that general audiences will know instantly), you can still have your kick ass action Superman film and it can still fail.
I don't thin Welling can be Superman in a movie to be honest.
We've grown up watching him as the teenager and becoming a man, but, he's missing something, he's character is still soft there hasn't been a superman moment.
I know what you're going to say, saving everyone etc etc, yes that is part of superman, but his actual Presence is missing something that authority, just something.
Also he doesn't look like superman.
He's teeth are messed up and has got a crazy hair cut, it just wouldn't work, especially if he's going to act emotional, it's just gonna be smallville.
UNLESS
They fix up and make everyone forget they knew him in the next few episodes as he becomes superman, so he can enter metropolis and re-make those friendships, e.g. Lois etc
I agree with almost everything you say, except I don't see Marvel getting the Superman franchise. I would imagine rights will be up for bid once all is said and done and I would bet that Warner Bros will be willing to go very high to get those rights back.
Oh I don't doubt that one bit. The big question will be if the heirs will be simply greedy or will they have the integrity of the character in mind, which I think was something discussed, that they didn't like how Warner was handling the character in terms of movies...
If it's just money they want, then I'm sure if they get their way they will have it one way or another, but if it's the integrity of the character, don't doubt that Marvel could end up with Superman if the family wins the lawsuit.
It all depends on who will win the lawsuit and what the family of the heirs REALLY want.
Yea that dude is very powerful in these cases. Only a few times he didn't win. I still hope in the end the heirs will just drop it and make a deal. Hopefully for all parties they can make a good deal across the board.

It appears that Thompson on Hollywood had it wrong. According to CinemaBlend.com Hans Zimmer says he's not going to be scoring the new Superman movie that he has never even spoken to director Zack Snyder.
- According to the composer, he is the victim of an out-of-context quote that has attached him to project he has no dealings with. Continuing, Zimmer thinks that the whole situation was assumed to be true because of his connections with Nolan, but the truth is that he's never met Snyder (though he says that he "need
to give him a ring"). Then there's the whole matter of dealing with John Williams' iconic theme from the Richard Donner movies:
"John Williams, the greatest living composer -- full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And Im not thinking of rewriting Beethovens ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So thats unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder."
As always, any rumor you read about this new Superman movie should be taken with a grain of salt ... Even so-called reputable sources (like Anne Thompson) can get it wrong from time to time.
Thanks to astro2010 for the lead on this news item.
As much as we want Welling to be Supes, I don't think it will happen. They will start casting/pre-production before the Smallville series is finished.
Along with heaping on what he's seen of the film so far, Guggenheim was also happy to weigh in on the Superman cameo that was a part of one of the earliest scripts. When I spoke to the writer back in July 2009, he confirmed that Clark Kent was indeed written into an early draft of "Green Lantern," though director Martin Campbell later declared that the Superman cameo was removed from the film.
"Without trying very hard, you could probably find the leaked script on the internet," he laughed. "[The Superman cameo] is in the leaked script. It survived several drafts. Ultimately, it was cut for budgetary reasons. We took it out in one of our later drafts. After my interview with you, of course."
"The Clark Kent cameo is still near and dear to my heart. I really wanted it to be in the movie," he added, only to joke, "You never know — it can still happen. If Tom Welling has a free hour or two, you never know."
