"Here We Go Again" Part 4: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

I don't think there are any restrictions. Casting Superman in a film does not magically put restrictions on other stuff all of a sudden.

there may well be some restrictions now that superman is cast. no one knows what will happen now.

the restrictions would have been in place when the movie was announced...not the casting of Superman.

How long and how much did Superman Returns affect Smallville?

I don't think it affected Smallville much. Al and Miles met with Bryan Singer to make sure nobody was stepping on each other's toes. That was the year when the FOS was introduced. I don't think they changed anything due to the movie.

I always felt that part of the reason Superman Returns didn't do well was because of its story and that Smallville was still around at that point. With SV ending, the new movie could have a good chance of doing well in box office. I understand they're shooting the new Superman movie in June of this year. :super:

While I always wanted TW for the role, I can definitely live with Cavill and he's been my number 2 choice for a while now that he's matured. He was awesome in The Tudors. I'm just really glad they werent dumb enough to cast Routh again. (Nothing personal against the guy, its just that anything involved with Singer's movie needed to go away for good.)

Signing off on everything Hulk says here.

Cavill is a choice I am happy with. He'll do a great job and he has a wonderful on-screen charisma that I've always harped on as being the key ingredient to casting this character.

I will always have 10 seasons worth of my favorite :supes: to watch on DVD whenever I want. No one can take that away from Welling, and I'm proud of all the years of hard work and dedication he gave to keeping this iconic character alive and in the public eye.

It's been an honor to share this ride with all of you fellow Welling supporters. :hrt:

I don't really know anything about so I don't really know what to think, but I guess he looks good for the part. Hopefully they don't stray too far as a film like the current Spidey reboot appears to be doing.

Lately we have superhero reboots happening with this, Spider-Man, X-Men First Class, and Captain America. We like to thank Tom Welling for his contributions to the Superman mythos with 10 years of Superman television. That's a hard thing to top.

I never had a problem with Cavill either, and in Nolan/Snyder's hands, this will be much better than what happened seven years ago. Especially with Smallville off the air, we don't have to worry about the movie mucking things up for the show (like it did when SR came out).

As much as I've wanted to see a Superman movie with Welling, Rosey and Durance, I've known that was a pipe dream for some time. And to be honest, Season 8 on has provided all of the things I wanted to see from this interpretation of Superman: Clark/Lois at the Planet, the double identity, heck, they even did a Welling shirt-rip already!

The only thing now, though, is that the Smallville crew better come correct these last eleven episodes! This is their one and only chance to give the longtime Welling fans the Superman they deserve!

Don't screw it up Kelly/Brian!

The final two episodes of Smallville should be combined into a movie as this would be the Smallville Superman movie would see with TW in the suit and flying with it. I hope Chris Nolan and Zach Snyder watch the show's series finale.

The ride has been fun although disappointing, time to move on now.
Peace and LOVE to the TW4\S/ crew :awesome:

SHAZAM! AND I'M OUT!!!!

I'm not sure now if we'll ever see Tom in the suit. Tom in a Superman suit will be a P.R. NIGHTMARE for Nolan and Snyder and their new Superman. He will inevitably be compared (he would be anyway) to Tom.
On the other hand that SR suit that Warner gave SV was a poisoned gift as not even Reeve himself could've made that thing work.
I know most consider a victory that Routh wasn't chosen and I wish I could be that positive. I think they made another fatal mistake and I can see the same excuses coming 3 years from now that ppl don't relate to Superman anymore.
This movie will make money no doubt but so did SR. for their sake, it better be a 600 plus blockbuster or it's bye bye to Superman and possibly it's rights.
They'll probably market the hell out of "Produced by the director of the Dark Knight".
Snyder's Watchmen was a great movie but failed at the box office. His only real hit was 300.
I agree with Serene that we'll always have 10 years worth of our favorite Superman but it sucks. He deserved better than this and should've at least screen tested for the part.
I have no doubt that Warner executives may be willing to have Welling in it but didn't want to go against the almighty Nolan.
I'll see the movie but I don't expect to suport it by buying it or seeing at theaters more than one time. And if many fans of Tom do this, the movie will suffer in the long run.
I wish them all the luck in the world but this won't be a Superman I will support.

Like Prison Mike says, the restrictions would have been in place when they announced the new Superman movie. They won't start production of the new movie until after SV finishes its run. If they couldn't allow TW to wear the suit, then Lois shouldn't be allowed to be used further as she's in the Daily Planet in SV. :super:

Quoted for truth.

While I always wanted Tom in the role, Henry Cavill is a good choice too. at least he looks the part. Wish he was a little taller, but as long as they don't cast a huge man (like Frank Langella) as Perry, he'll be fine.

I still adore Tom and the show.

It has been a fantastic ride, through everything.

:hrt: :super: :supes:

I've never seen Cavill in anything so I can't say yay or nay. I am disappointed that TW didn't get the part. He'll always be my guy. I am extremely concerned that this is going to affect the remainder of the season. I think this announcement may have had something to do with the recent episode delay. I could just be a conspiracy theorist as well. I'm hoping they don't screw us long time Smallville fans. Like Bruce Wayne29 said, I can't see them wanting TW in the suit before their movie comes out. That's just not good PR. Well its been a fun ride with Smallville, and I hope we all get what we've waited for. I'm kind of thinking this is a sad day.

I doubt it because the SV producers said that there are no restrictions in SV and they're allowed to operate in their own timeline and story. The restrictions would have been put into place already when they announced the new movie. Otherwise, why give them the Superman Returns suit? The episode delay had nothing to do with the new Superman movie. It's more to do with Vampire Diaries, Nikita, and American Idol.

Agreed Welling has truly become the Man Of Steel, now let all hope we get to see him in full SUPERMAN mode on screen in the series finale .

Ultimately, we'll see if there is an affect or not. Nolan has already kept Bruce Wayne away from the Smallville universe, who's to say he won't keep Superman out of the Smallville universe.

Did anyone else think this casting news was rather sudden. I didn't expect it until much later. I gotta admit I'm not very familiar with Henry Cavill at all. He does look like a good Superman, wish he was 2 or 3 inches taller though.

*sigh* while I always new in my heart that Tom would never be cast, I did shed a tiny tear reading the news. Part of my sadness was because now the last eleven episodes is for sure the last we will ever see of Tom as Clark Kent/ Superman. And the other part of my disappointment was worry. I hope and pray to God that this does not affect the end of Smallville. I am scared that they won't let Tom wear the suit now. They'll throw out some lame bs that if Tom wears the suit people will get confused and think it's related to the movie or something. After ten years of keeping Superman on television, Tom and the fans deserve a fair and worthy ending to this series. Please wb, let that still happen.

And to Tom, MY Superman now and forever, thank you for ten wonderful years. I love this character because of you. Smallville was a great time of my life and I will cherish the 200+ eps of you as Clark Kent, The Blur, and finally Superman always. Here's to you Mr. Welling! :supes:

The restrictions would have included glasses too since Clark will be wearing glasses in Masquerade. Yeah, I have to admit that this news of the new Superman casting was sudden because I thought it would be next month.

The casting Was quick. I thought They were gonna wait till after smallville ends.Thats to bad. Because Smallville is the best superhero show ever. I wanted Tom to be supes. But oh well.

It was fun.

People need to calm down about the Welling in the suit thing. Smallville's finale is in May 2011. The Man of Steel wont be in theaters until December 2012, that's 19 months in between the two. One wont effect the other.

Plus, the casting has no impact on anything like that. We've known for close to a year or more that a new Supes film was coming, and just 5 months ago WB Features gave Smallville a Superman suit to use as a prop.

All is well. Smallville will still end as it should.

very true.

And as amusing aside, some of the "Routh Extremists" are pitching a literal **** fit over in the Superman forums, and C. Lee is handing out probationary bans like they're breath mints.

I mean seriously, that writing's been on the wall for many months, this can't have seriously caught them by surprise?

Oh well, nice to see the "Wellingites" ended up being the realists and civil, and I see that most of the long timers here seem to be cool with Cavill, which pleases me to no end. I think he'll do well with the role and carry on the legacy that Tom's had solely on his broad shoulders for the past decade.

As I've said before, Tom must be glad to not play Superman for the reboot movie as he can no pursue non-Superman projects in addition to producing Hellcats. If there should be a Smallville spin-off involving Supergirl or the other heroes, I'd like to see TW produce it as well. I think the series finale will be the only time we see TW in the suit and fly with it as well as being a Smallville Superman movie. :super:
