Hitman

They really do seem to be messing around with this and how its going to be released, so we now only get like a prologue and one level to start with and then a level a month?

Might wait on this and see what people say and then maybe get the full thing when its all out.

Yeah, this took a turn for the worst. It seems like they are trying to save face and not announce another delay.

I'm interested to hear more about pricing. Otherwise, I think I'll just wait for a complete version at the end of the year, if they even complete it by then.

Thats a nice CE, just a shame a full game doesnt come with it. :csad:

I still hope this turns out good but I'm not sure why they are doing it like this and its going to be hard to follow through with any great story with such gaps in between.

I'm not sure on this.

Well the full game does come with it, just not at launch.

But yea, what you said is why I hate episodic games. I don't like waiting for the remainder of the story to be added. Its the primary reason I hate TellTale games.

Now I guess one could just wait until all the episodes are out, but as I said, Im impatient as hell. No way i could wait while there is Hitman to be played.

Well. there are plenty of games that release episodically, just not to the caliber of something like Hitman, which is considered a AAA franchise type of game.

It does make me wonder though, Square is planning to adopt the same model for the Final Fantasy 7 remake, so I wonder if this is something that they are encouraging, or if it's meant to be a way to get the product out sooner without worrying about completing it 100% by launch.

Yeah thats the thing its going to be hard to resist for a full year or how ever long it takes for the full thing to be out. I can imagine as a die hard Hitman fan its going to be difficult to do that as we will be itching to try it.

I suppose as long as its a good game it doesnt matter in the long run but the trouble is I'm worried I may lose interest as will a prologue and one level keep my interest for a month?

I guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out and what we get at launch.

Yea thats an interesting point. I guess you could ask the same question to games like The Walking Dead or other TellTale games. Whats their reasoning behind the episodic nature?

I mean ill never lose interest, but im gonna beat those two missions in a sitting, then be desperately waiting for the continuation of the story. Iv always played through the Hitman games "blind" so to speak on the first run, just to experience the different locales and hear the story, THEN i go back and master each level.

Yeah thats the thing, with old Hitman games you had a good 10-12 levels to replay over and over but it didnt get boring as you had such a good variety but just having one or two to start with is going to be hard to keep that fresh feeling until more are added.

Its just a disappointing way to release a game, I can see why you hate it and for this franchise, one of the best around IMO, its such a shame, but yeah I could never lose interest in Hitman games as a whole, especially ones "Blood Money" good.

Heres IO's message on whats to come for HITMAN

This year will be a defining year for Io-Interactive and Agent 47. This is the year when you’ll finally be able to play the new HITMAN. In the spirit of the New Year, we’d like to give everyone a deeper insight into how work is progressing on the game and also share some more information about what’s to be expected in 2016.

Staying true to the vision

At the end of 2015 we saw a lot of great progress and the game now feels like a genuine Hitman experience. The game is shaping up really well and the release is just two months away, plus the Beta is set to hit next month on February 12.

Now, we’ve always said we won’t put anything out until it’s ready. That means what we release has to hit the quality level you have come to expect from a HITMAN game. To ensure that level of quality, we made a big decision on how we’re releasing HITMAN. After a lot of consideration, we decided to take the full leap and publish HITMAN as a truly episodic game experience with a major live component. It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly and we fully acknowledge that the decision may frustrate some players. But it is a shift that we believe will ensure the best possible foundation for this game and the future of HITMAN.

The future of HITMAN

The exciting thing about going episodic is that this format allows us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time. This initial game release will help us build the foundation for where we want to take HITMAN. The first game is part one of a storyline we see expanding over the release of subsequent games - so we want to make absolutely sure we get things right for what will be a great Hitman experience expanding over the coming years. This first step is going to shape what the games will ultimately become.

As we’ve said before, we want to shape the game with the people playing it and by going down this route we believe we’re creating the best possible base for success. We will be able to respond much faster to feedback, analyse player behaviour and implement changes on a regular basis that simply wasn’t possible before. We’ll be able to craft a long story arc that spans multiple games while at the same time crafting smaller arcs and stories that will find their conclusions within each game. We will get the chance to craft missions and revisit locations in ways that we’ve never been able to do before.

How will this work?

HITMAN will still launch on March 11th and that initial launch will include the Prologue and the Paris location.

The big change is that the next location, set in Italy, will now release in April and then Morocco will release in May. From there we will keep monthly content updates coming, including the three additional locations we have already announced; Thailand, the US and Japan until the season concludes in Japan later in 2016. The weekly live events and additional planned content will give you plenty to do in the time between location releases.

The new Intro Pack, which includes Prologue and Paris will be priced at $15. Each subsequent location can be purchased for $10 as an add-on item after you buy the new Intro Pack. If you buy the Intro Pack and want to get into everything the Full Experience offers, you can also choose to buy the Upgrade Pack for $50. This will give you access to all of the content released after March 11th and guarantees you won’t miss any live or bonus content.

Of course you can still buy the Full Experience which is the complete first season, so all the content this year as it’s released, up front for $60 as always promised. Whether you purchase the complete game or buy each episode individually, we want to remind the community that there will be no micro transactions in HITMAN.

If you prefer to wait we will also ship the complete season on a disc at the end of 2016.

Next steps!

In less than a month, on February 12, the HITMAN beta will arrive first on PlayStation 4 and a week later for PC. We need to make sure our infrastructure and our technology can deliver on our promise with this new game and you playing the beta will be of tremendous help and value for us. You can get guaranteed access to the beta by pre-ordering the Full Experience and, as a new thing, also if you pre-order the new Intro Pack.

We’re also very happy to announce the HITMAN Collector’s Edition that we created based on your feedback and which will be available on March 11th as well. You can read all about what that pack contains on the dedicated Collector's Edition page.

And for all PlayStation users we have the first Contract of the Sarajevo Six: “The Director” will ship exclusively on PS4 when the game launches.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. The last thing we wanted to do is change what we have already said, especially this close to launch, and for that we sincerely apologize. We hope you have a great 2016. We are looking forward to seeing you in the World of Assassination.

Well, at least they didn't call it Rise of the Hitman. So, there's always that to think about amongst all these weird ass structure changes.

I'd like to Telltale Games for making this happen!

Eh, I prefer physical over digital anyway. So I'll just wait until the disk version which will contain everything comes out.

At least there is no micro-transactions, thats something I guess.

I love the TellTale games and enjoy their episodic release structure, but I'll be waiting for the full version of Hitman before I play it. With TellTale it works because they structure the story that way, and the gameplay is much more akin to a TV show than the majority of video games -cliff hangers, specific scenes, etc. With a game like Hitman, where you are working your way through levels like most other games, I don't see the point.

Idk, it depends on the narrative IO is going with, but overall Hitman doesn't have to be structured so that each level just leads to another. Each level or "episode" is just one job that 47 is contracted to do. The problem is, I beleive IO has said there is a narrative arc to this game and I'm not sure breaking this game up will be the best way to tell that.

True enough. I think TellTale tend to aim for that TV type structure though, which is why releasing their games in episode format works well. If IO are doing a similar type story style with the new Hitman game, it might pay off. That said, I'm still going to wait until all of Hitman is released before playing it.

It's going to suck waiting but I'm going to too for the first complete season or whatever

I think I'm just going to wait for the complete version at the end of the year (hopefully).

I have a big backlog as it is, and I don't mind waiting a little longer for this and Tomb Raider, even though they're both games I'd prefer to have now.

Yeah, I'm just going to wait for the physical copy.

Preordered the CE from Amazon. Got a nice discount for being a prime member.

I hope the initial sales bomb. This isnt a practice I want to see catch on
