May be jumping the gun quite a bit, but this is all very exciting.

Assuming that Sony does in fact hand Spider-Man over to Marvel, and Marvel (as the have been reported) decides to 'soft-reboot' the character by recasting, how would you imagine SM be introduced to the shared universe?

Reports suggest that Marvel want to skip most of the origin stuff and begin with him already discovered his abilities while in High school.

Personally, I would have Peter Parker appear in the post-credits scene of either AoU or Ant-Man through the Daily Bugle. This would be the aftermath of AoU, during the build-up to Civil War. Just Peter Parker, aware of his abilities but without the suit.

Civil War (if they are able to fit him in, since filming hasn't begun yet) would begin with him as a small-time/'rookie' vigilante, wearing a home-made makeshift suit. He then meets Iron Man, who gives him a new costume.

Thoughts?

Civil War cameo would be more than ideal. If not, just hint at him in movies and then have him make his debut in his own film.

And he should be in high school, and stay there for two films

The logistics would be a nightmare, but it might be interesting if Director Coulson had to go undercover at Midtown High. We could get a glimpse of Peter on television and Spidey in Civil War before just jumping right into an established Spider-Man in Marvel's Spider-Man.

If the deal goes through as reported, it won't be a soft reboot. Marvel wants a clean slate. And a cameo at the end of CW would be more than enough.

Spider-Man without a real costume and then Tony Stark to give him the suit? Doesn't sound that great. I don't want Spidey to wear something made out of metal or anythink non-sleak.

Will the character go down the Batman route with kevlar, thick rubber and heavy armour?

In Civil War:
Tony Stark mentions him to Cap when they are discussing the increasing amounts of super powered people around the world.

Maybe we see him on some news coverage

A post credit scene where we see a teenage boy take snapping shots of some destruction in New York, suddenly police cars zoom past with sirens on, the boy smiles then starts to run after them, then someone calls out 'Peter where are you going?' Then it fades to black and you hear a 'Woohoooo'

They could have a kid admitting to Tony that he was the guy who took the first photo of Iron Man.
Have a flashback to that scene of the kid taking the photo (that way to establish he's been existing in the background of the MCU).
Tony would be like "Who are you?" and he replies "Peter Parker, I'm your biggest fan" - that in itself sets up whose side he'll choose.
The reason the photo wasn't with the Daily Bugle was because he was working freelance.

Theatrical image (they changed it for the home media release).

Wasn't that in LA and like 6 years ago in the timeline though

Also Peter wouldn't be his biggest fan anyway

This will be a difficulty task, IMO, for Marvel. So much is in full effect right now that it might be a bit jarring to finally, and kind of abruptly, introduce Marvel's most famous face into the MCU at this point.

There's been nothing in any of the 10 films this far to allude to him, so somehow saying he's always been around would be hard to pull off I think.

If you go with a reboot, there's obviously going to have to be some marketing magic to help people understand how it's not the same character from ASM and why Garfield is gone etc.

They definitely need to get this deal worked out if they want him to be featured in the current story. Otherwise I don't see us getting Spider-man until Phase 4...assuming a deal with Marvel even happens.

If I had to pick, I'd love to see a CW cameo at the end (as PP or SM) usher him in in but I fear it's a bit late for that. And I also don't want them to undermine Black Panther since he's undoutbedly the unofficial Spider-man replacement.

I don't think the MCU is running in real-time lol.
I'm sure they could figure out an explanation as to why he was in LA.
They could say he went on a School field trip for geography perhaps.
When I was in school, we went to France for a few days.
It's a common trip in UK schools to visit another European country (France is most common as it's closest), especially when studying languages.
Also, Tony could say to Peter "you're not the first one to tell me that" :oldrazz:

1 is what I believe will happen. But it could be hard to explain what he did prior to Cap 3 and why he never showed up to help in any of the films.
2 will be the best solution. That way, he was just a random guy in MCU and just recently got the powers.

Maybe, but Peter is most likely still going to be in high school and definitely a number of years will have passed from IM to CW therefore he would have been very young to have been selling a photo to a newspaper.

I also think it is slightly cheesy to go back and add the character into the background of previous movies.

I agree with you there, but it was the only plausible idea I could come up with.
Either that or Peter uses a flux capacitor to go back in time, in a DeLorean driven by Aunt May lol :woot:

Simple he has been become Spiderman between AoU and Civil War. Unless Civil War is set like the week after AoU, it should be easy to have his origin between the events. Tony can show Cap a Bugle headline or TV coverage where it's made clear that he is a new hero.

But then the suggested AC sequence won't come as a surprise :)

Yeah true, but it wouldn't be a surprise anyway, cos they would have had to cast him and that would have leaked, in my plan they'd be doing a Spidey film in 2017 or 18 so that would have been announced, so everyone would have known it was coming anyway.

edit- if they could cast him for post credits without it leaking then yeah don't have any mention during the film.

Why is it impossible to do something without any leaks? Is there always some insider guy who HAS to reveal secrets plans?

Pretty much, especially with Spiderman in the MCU it may not even be intentional someone might just be too excited and tell someone who then leaks it.

I'm writing a hypothetical tv series...I get bored :hehe:

And in the pilot, Peter has been abducted by Coulson and SHIELD, where they apparently have evidence that he attempted to steal security information, that HYDRA has been trying to get hold of for several months.
But Peter is innocent and in order to prove this, he must take it upon himself to bring the perpetrator down, who turns out to be Chameleon :p

Wait until Phase 4. That's what makes the most logistical sense.

I'd be fine with just a cameo in CW, then a bigger role in the IW films.

That said, I'd want to see them start off with Peter already in college and establish that he became Spider-Man shortly after the events of 'The Avengers.' So he's already been around for some time and has fought a handful of minor villains already.

I don't understand why it would be "difficult" to introduce Spidey now, even though there's no mention of him, throughout the ten or so films MCU have already produce. X-men, FF, DD, GotG, and countless of others have not been mention....doesn't have any bearing whether they exist or not.

Also, I don't understand the reasoning of some, to introduce him at the end of CA:CW...I thought the reason Marvel wants him, is to integrate him into the mist of the story. Thereby, given the importance of his role, suggest that he's a well establish & well known figure; so he wouldn't be some rookie kid in high school; but, a young adult, preferably a sophomore in college. So, did a representative of Marvel or Kevin Feige himself say that they wanted a younger Peter in high school?

Anyway....with all that said, I think the best way to introduce him would be in the after-credits of AoU, leading to CA:CW...given they have apparently already shot the mid-credits scene. Simply go as follows:

There is a very quick, brief scene of a close up shot of Spidey swinging through the city, from the pov of Iron Man helmet cam, as the image pans from a close up shot, to a far away shot, revealing Iron Man standing on top of one, of the many, skyscrapers of Manhattan, watching Spidey swing by in the distance, then the face Iron Man, looks at the camera, his jets fire up, and he takes off, after Spidey. End scene.

Or perhaps the reason they want him is for Sony to stop butchering him first and foremost.
