I think they did ruin venom. I know you saw him, but you didn't have the luxury of looking over it again and again. you were hyped up excited and got to briefly see him. most likely your memory of how it looked isn't an accurate representation of how it actually looked.

you keep saying that not seeing Venom gets you more excited than actually seeing venom. well since this is coming from somebody who saw venom that means that it must not have gotten you excited.

If it got you excited and hyped than chances are it would do the same for everybody else.

I hope that they redid him, and I think they did. Venom's gone from having a purple tint, to having weblines, to not having weblines.

And I think you are an ignorant and un-informed poster.

I say that from the experience of looking at the discussion and posts of all the people here who haven't seen him.

You guys are biting your nails off. You'd eat your own heads to see Venom.

Or maybe the crap about him having a purple tint was BS that you swallowed like the paranoid internet poster you are.

You guys will just swallow whatever is said on the net even if it's not true.

Not showing Venom is brilliance.

Sony should reinforce it all the way to May. Fans and movie-goers will be biting their teeth.

New Line played a similar card with the Balrog. All of us waited with baited breath to see the Balrog realized in live action and boy was it awesome.
the average people dont know who venom is....and especially his origins and what he can and cant do...

i wouldnt be surprised if they showed him in the next trailer...

saying balrog was the most important villain in lotr is a bit slanted...
more like not showing orcs or urokai

For the fan of Spider-Man, the "not showing Venom" card really is brilliant; the movie would draw even skeptic fans to see it just to see what he looks like.

On the other hand, my friends who know nothing about Spider-Man didn't know Venom would be in it, or who Venom was for that matter. I showed them some pictures and we watched some of the Fox cartoons on DVD. Their anticipation of the movie went from a "Meh" to a "Hey I really want to see that movie now!" Sony should at least play a glimpse of Venom in the trailers, if not more, to give the average moviegoer an idea of what we're all excited about.

Seeing Venom at Comic-Con, I must admit though, was one of the most exciting things I've ever been to! I was yelling like a little girl to have them play the trailer again...which they didn't.

Wrong. Venom is the most well known and popular Spider-man rogue of all time.

I would.

I never said he was the most important villain. But Jackson and New Line reinforced a no viewing policy on the Balrog. Just a hint of the flames and foot in a trailer.

The first time we ever see the cinematic LOTR version of the Balrog was when you saw it on the big screen for the first time. It was a real money shot.

Fans were highly anticipated on this creature and what it would look like on the big screen.

that's quite an ignornat thing to say. and uninformed? how do you have any more information than I have? that's why it was an ignorant thing to say.

I say that from the experience of looking at the discussion and posts of all the people here who haven't seen him.

You guys are biting your nails off. You'd eat your own heads to see Venom.

why did you choose to see him then?

Or maybe the crap about him having a purple tint was BS that you swallowed like the paranoid internet poster you are.

I didn't swallow it, untill we were presented proof that it was not just some made up rumour. their getting harry's costume dead on is a heck of a coincedence isn't it? they said harry looked like a skateboarder, and he does. obviously they saw the costumes. how else could you explain it? a coincedence? a lucky guess? explain it.

Fans were highly anticipated on this creature and what it would look like on the big screen.

the only people who were excited to see this creature were people who read the books. most movie going fans didn't even know he existed.

and many comic book fans think Green Goblin is the most well known villain.

seeing Venom in the previews will attract very large audiences. most people wouldn't wonder what he looks like in the movie, because most people aren't excited about it like us comic fans. the only way to get them excited is to show it to them.

edit...

I know of at least 8 people who liked the previous spidey movies and planned on seeing this on video. I told them venom was in it, and now depending on how impressed they are by his appearance when they see him, they might go see it in the theatre instead. I know of a few people who planned on seeing it in the theatres eventually, untill they found out venom was in it, now they plan on seeing it opening night, and only because they know me and have seen my comic books and know what venom looks like. had they not known me they most likely wouldn't know what he looks like, and wouldn't be hyped. Call it uninformed and ignorant all you want, but this is reality. Movie goers are motivated by great CGI visuals in trailers, and not by wondering what something will look like.

Venom's appearance would be a major attraction if audiences are impressed by how he looks in the trailers. otherwise he will be kind of irrelevant to box office sales.

defo save him for the film ,or maybe a shadow of him on a poster to wet our appetite ,but thats all

Raimi should hide 6 golden tickets inside Spider-Man 3 chocolate bars and the ticket winners would go inside the big movie factory and see vehnum and stuff.

it was confirmed at the comic con that Venom does not have webs in the movie.

they could see venom and be extras in the movie too.

Why all this talk about the Balrog, when the obvious parallel is Gollum? Peter Jackson withheld images of Gollum to extreme anticipation and a lot of critical praise when TTT finally did come out; it certainly didn't seem to hurt turn-out, since people who had seen the first movie and the trailers had an inkling of what was going to be in the second movie.

I think Venom is infinitely more a part of the popular consciousness than Gollum was when LOTR came out, which gives Raimi a larger base to tease; from TTT we can safely assume that a forced public famine of the money character boosts hype among those already in the know. I agree with Spiderbite 100% though when he says the larger moviegoing public is enticed by cool CGI in previews, not anticipation, which is for the fanboys. The problem is, Raimi better give something to the general moviegoing public, like they had with the awareness of Gollum as something they should be getting excited about, otherwise there's nothing to anticipate. I think TheVileOne is seriously overestimating the amount of people that know who Venom is...recognizing the character as something they've seen in a comic shop window back in '95 is one thing, knowing who Venom is and why he's totally sweet is quite another. And without dropping some kind of morsel, I don't think hiding Venom would create the same kind of draw that hiding Gollum did. I'm not concerned for SM3, I think the favorable reception to SM2 combined with the black costume and goo will provide more than enough anticipation for most people, but I also think that Raimi & Co would be foolish not to take advantage of Venom's popularity, and they're probably going to give us something to look at before the movie comes out. They're not stupid.

I'm assuming then that the black stuff in MJ's poster was just the symbiote itself.

that promo pic shows webbing on the suit. and in the footage from comic con the cgi wasn't finished, the textures were all crappy.

I hope I'm wrong though.
